I made a signature in GIMP and I wish to post it to DeviantArt, but it needs to be either a .jpeg or .png image. The image file says it's a .xcf image.

If there is a way, can someone tell me how to make the image into either a .jpeg or .png image?

When saving in Gimp, you should always save a .xcf. Basically it is the PSD format of Gimp--it preserves all of your layers and settings, so if you ever want to go back and change something, it will be as if you never closed the document.

But, to save it in a web-friendly format, just go into File -> Save As. A dialog box should open. In the 'Name:' field, just delete the .xcf and add .png or .jpeg.

Misty is right, or for a faster way without scrolling, go to the picture file, edit the name, and where it says 'Picture.xcf' put 'Picture.png' or 'Picture.jpeg' or whatever file you wish it to be and it'll change it's type.
But its as Misty said, for firsties, but as you get better, you will begin to do as I suggested.
