Why yes, things got a bit more complicated, but they really wanted to make KHII cooler in a way that KH. I agree with your thought, but it didn't really make much of a difference to me...

Well, the only new additions are Riku, Roxas and Kairi. Riku was intended to have one originally so thats understandable. Roxas is Sora so that's understandable, and we still don't know if Kairi's is her own or just one that Riku gave her (like in Deep Dive when Roxas gives Riku the Oblivion), but she has the potential to have one and I think it would be good to have her play a more active role. Sora is a great main character but playing as other wielders is just as, if not cooler.

Well at a glance, we have:

    Sora
    Riku!Possessed
    Mickey
    Roxas
    Riku!Normal
    Kairi
    Xion
    Master Xehanort
    Dark Apprentice
    Ven
    Terra
    Aqua

I'd say it really became apparent and almost lampshaded when that Keyblade graveyard was shown for the BBS trailer.

Those are Keychains. MoKB isn't complaining about the number of keychains, he's irritated by the number of keyblades that are going around.

Well It does seem more exclusive when Sora was the only known one.

But Riku's was more of a keyblade just born from darkness, so more of a rejected keyblade for him

Mickey of course needs one i mean, aint he the king of light or whatever

Kairi's i doubt will be a permanent thing

Roxas is a nobody of Sora so it makes sense, and he dissapears later on

    for Xion also

Ven,Aqua and Terra are soilders of Light so again it makes sense

Well i think kairi wields one because she also has part fo soras heart and the keyblade chooses its master and strong hearts sometimes like with riku in hollow bastion.

I doubt she will have it for long.

Riku's first one was a reject, but his second wasn't. Soon everyone had one. It's power creep. At the start, no one had anything. Then Sora and Riku fought over the keyblade for a whole game. Then the next game is just "Oh, okay. Everyone has a keyblade now."

Making sense or not, there are still too many. For a weapon that was pretty much considered Jesus Christ incarnate in the first game, there are sure a lot of them.

Kairi's keyblade made no sense to the point where the fans are making theories about how she got it and what relevance it has. She was given one for the hell of it, and then it was taken away, never to be mentioned again. When the god-weapon is in this situation, we have too many.

Sure, Roxas had one. Fine. Still unique-ish there. Then we see Xion. Then Ven, Terra and Aqua. MX and DA had them too. It's almost as if Square is incapable of making a main character that doesn't hit people over the head with a giant key.

I think it is a massive jump to go from only one being around and everyone seeking it to there being over ten around and it being an average part of life.

I do feel alittle bit that the more people that have a keyblade the mystic aura about the weapon decreases. I mean what would Matser Chief be if he wasn't the last Spartan, or if there were more than just one Master Sword in Zelda. It sort of takes the feeling of our last hope riding on this person away. Yes a team is good, but even then one must stand up and go farther then the rest. Hopefully that will be the case with Sora.

Also for the record, Kairi doesn't have a keyblade. That was Riku basically dual wielding and letting her hold it. It's girly because it represents Riku's memories of Destiny Islands. If Kairi could use the keyblade she would have summoned it like Sora, not just be handed it.

Yeah I agree with that the keyblade is getting overused.
I really haven't quite understood why the others can hold a keyblade apart from Riku and Sora.

Not at all. Honestly, it seems better that way to me. Before, it was only Sora who had the keyblade. After Riku and Kairi recieve one, it shows how much they've changed in the course of a year. That, and Way to Dawn looks kickass. :D

Yeah, this was sorta annoying. I can accept Riku having a keyblade, because he and Sora fought over it for an entire game, so obviously Riku was worthy or it wouldn't have lasted that long (and Way to Dawn does indeed look badass). Mickey I can also understand, and Kairi just used one Riku gave to her. So alright. There's three, a magic number - but no...
It's just that there became too many people whose could justifiably wield a keyblade because they were connected to Sora or were denizens of the Light, so that was taken advantage of because Square prolly didn't want to bother thinking up snazzy new weapons.

I guess you say that because it was an original thing and think it is being overused. But nobody complained about lightsabers...

Well, I do kinda agree. I liked it better when main characters had their uniqueness. Now, everyone has something in common. Eh don't really like it.

keyblades just don't have that aura around them like they did in KH1. from all the trailers and news, it looks like its going into a final fantasy game rather than a disney game

Yes, I thought that too. But normally the Keyblade automatically returns to the owners hand if they aren't chosen, so she must have the potential to have her own if she could handle it.

Well, there are a lot of keyblades in KH now, but one should've actually seen it coming since there was the graveyard scene in the BBS teaser. However, we also see that it's only the main characters who wield the keyblades. Sora obviously is the main characters in the KH saga and Riku was supposed to be the Keyblade Master if he hadn't give into the darkness, but in the end the darkness granted him the keyblade that resembled his heart. However, I don't understant why Kairi's got a keyblade of her own, but I think it might be temporary.

Roxas has got have a keyblade of his own since he is Sora's half, and in BBS it makes sense for Terra, Ven and Aqua to have keyblades since they are the main characters in BBS--and it IS a background story as to how the entire war started--so being a part of Kingdome Hearts, the main characters have to have the keyblades, otherwise it wouldn't be Kingdom Hearts at all.

[Regarding Xion, don't click unless you know aboout 358/2 Days.]
As for Xion...that was--well it was really pointless to give the Keyblade to her, but as ANOTHER piece of Sora, she too needed the Keyblade. Not that her existence was really NEEDED. So if they exploited the use of the Keyblades, then they definitely did so here.

I was iffy on the idea of keyblades flying around like it's no big deal.
However, in KHII it did make Kairi seem like less of a damsel in distress.
Even though a new weapon would be nice -_-

It makes the series more complicated, but in a good way. It seemed kinda... Iffy with just Sora. And most of the current wielders have a decent reason for having a keyblade. :| Maybe it depends on who has one.
