They're games I've recently-ish bought, but can't play hardly due to how stonking dark the TV is combined with how stonking dark the games already are.

I literally can't make progress in Silent Hill 2, since I'm in the apartments AND CAN'T SEE ANYTHING.

Oh, that sucks. Well I'm not into games like Silent Hill anyway. When it comes to consoles, I prefer RPGs and games that won't make me never sleep again ever.

    NAH Y'THUNK.

Really just want a new TV already. This one has great picture and sound, sure, but having to continuously replace the lamps is both seriously annoying and too expensive in the long-run.

    Chicken-wuss.

I have never played a Silent Hill title. My mother would not let me.

    I feel deprived.

Hey, I know what I can and can't handle. I'm going to play Amnesia and Slender as soon as I get to them on my backlog.

    >Implying Slender or Amnesia is scary.

Nothing is scary anymore, horror is a dead franchise.

Curious, what do you consider scary then? I mean in gaming.

I USED to consider games like the old SH and RE's scary, but I think that comes down to A: I was younger and B: they weren't so overdone back then.

The problem today is we'll take zombies for an example, the zombie is a classic horror character, pure and simple, he shambles and he wants yo flesh, but in the past decade the image of the zombie has been all other ****ing place to the point where if a developer hasnt made a zombie game, they're not doing it right.

Maybe I'm a cynic, maybe i'm just desensitized, I'm sure there's plenty of first time horror kids who found Dead Space scary, past that y'know first jump scare section that gets repeated 12 times, alas however I think I have to hang my hat on the genre, the magic is gone.

I actually agree with most of what you say, but you go on to say Slender and Amnesia aren't scary, yet, to me, they are the best attempts at the genre since the first 3 Silent Hill games (never played the old Resident Evil games). Dead Space isn't scary (lol whoever thinks it is) but it is a good survival-action-shoot-at-things game with a horror setting, but I guess that's aside the point.

Though, of course, its your opinion that Amnesia and Slender simply aren't scary to you. Do you at least think they're good attempts at the horror genre? (which I agree is pretty much dead when it comes to the big-name games, but is at least surviving with indie games)

I'm a horror wimp. I don't get scared easily, but when I do I get REALLY scared. If I own it, I'll try it and expect what it's supposed to be at least once.

Yeah I do actually, Amnesia has been the most recent ray of light I've seen since Code Veronica X in the RE series was released, it has a good blend of fear through the unknown and making the player feel helpless, and I can get why some people find it scary.

Slender I feel really just prays off the mythos of the Slenderman, which I've done a fair amount of research on because the character really interested me when he first came to light, and knowing that removes the unknown element for me, and at it's core all the game is, is a long corridor with trees in the way and terrible vision due to the darkness, with a chance that a slim figure will appear behind you at any point, I just don't see where the scariness comes into play, hell Alma in Fear 1 gives me bigger chills than Slender does.

Agree. Haven't beaten it, but I'll be damned if the game doesn't make me uncomfortable as all hell. I just wish Daniel wasn't such a wimp. "OH NO SOME DARKNESS I'MMA GO CRRRRRAZY".

Slender, I know for a fact can frighten people without them knowing anything about the mythos. I've let some friends of mine play it and they were at first kinda bored, but then pissing themselves in fear. The scariness I think comes into play because of how it instills massive paranoia into the player, especially in the bathroom, where it's only long corridors of darkness. It's really minimalistic, which is what I find actually improves how creepy it is. I can see why you personally don't think it all that creepy, but I hope my explanation makes sense?

Also I have never been scared or given chills by anything in Fear :|

Pretty good sale. I picked up:

    Orcs Must Die!
    Red Faction Guerilla
    Terraria
    Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath
    The Binding of Isaac
    Advanced Warfighter II
    Grand Theft Auto IV

    and...

    FALLOUT 3: GOTY EDITION

It's okay. I don't think they're that good. The controls are clunkier than Resident Evil and the scares are cheap.

    Yeah buddy.
