My principal made an announcement asking us to have a minute of silence that lasted for two seconds, literally before he said "Alright, that's it." Then some guy in the hallway yelled out "9/11 WASN'T REAL, THE WITNESSES WERE ACTORS AND FLIGHT 93 LANDED."

Then a handful of my friends brought up the whole "Lol, it happened a long time ago, it doesn't matter anymore." deal.

    Thoughts?

Personally, I was pretty much just pissed all day. :/

Its a sad day for me. Because of 9/11 3 of my cousins are in the war. Plus my friends make extra MMO accounts with terrorist themes to them for fun on 9/11. And I almost cried during a power point presentation my history teacher made for today.

That guy who yelled is part of some consparice against the government, i think, where else would you get something like that, and it is still important, it nearly happened again 4 years a go or later than that, i don't remember, where 3 people nearly blew up 8 planes going to the us at the same time going over the atlantic ocean

My school did nothing. Everyone was acting like nothing happened. But, I guess it's hard for some people, because some of those people in the school actually witnessed it, considering it happened right next to my school. There were cops everywhere today. =(

It was pretty depressing to look at where the towers used to be from the window at school...

I hope nothing like that ever happens again...

My school tried having every student and staff member wear a color of the US flag: Red for staff, white for Freshmen and Sophomores, and blue for Juniors and Seniors.

I only have a greyish shirt with some blue available :<

I always hated how there's not enough to remember today.

I remember being in fifth grade when this happened and got so scared because my family was in New York.
They weren't even in the right city, but it still scared the hell out of me.
It wasn't real? That person's on crack.
My old high school and my junior high both had a moment of silence for at least a few minutes, but I always felt like it wasn't enough.

I didn't have classes today (thank god for making your own schedule), but I did see a (student-made) memorial - a 9 - 11 made of American flags in a field. I didn't see much else, though.

Wait, so you're saying your school is right close to where it happened... and they didn't do any sort of remembrance thing at all? >B|

Whatever happened to all that "We will always remember" stuff?! Where'd all that go? I find the lack of respect to this tragedy disgusting. I've barely heard anything of 9/11 at all day. All the conspiracy theorists ("truthers", I think they call themselves) and their low, sad attempts at tearing down the government make me sick.

I can't stand this day anymore.

    That's what I think.

Honestly? I understand the doubt about Flight 93 because if you compare that "crash site" to the majority of crash sites...Well... :/ It just isn't natural looking. There was no fire, debris...It was just kind of off.

However, I think it's extremely disrespectful for people to laugh it off or call victims or people hurt by this stupid for "believing it". I mean, 9/11 happened and conspiracy or not, lives were lost. So many people died... It's just awful, really. Thinking of it that way and considering the lives lost and damage done, I can only mourn. I'm not going to laugh or point fingers.

    It's devastating either way.

And of course it still matters. There's so much that was influenced by 9/11. So many views and belifes have been changed. This stupid war is partly going on because of it. Yeah...

I spent three hours today watching 9/11 footage, researching, paying respect to the victims. This day should forever be remembered. I find it absolutely awful that this day isn't getting enough attention. And I don't mean that media bullshit, I mean really. Just some damn respect. Some people haven't thought about 9/11 at all today. Or they've brushed it off and rolled their eyes. Think about it.

Damn, it frustrates me to no end.

I honestly don't think we should get all worked up over this day, but I do agree that it's wrong of that kid to claim is was a conspiracy and for schools not to at the very least have a moment of silence. It really was a tragic thing and my heart does go out to all the people who lost people, and while I do think we should respect the people who lost their lives, it's not a reason to drop everything.

I did what I did for today because of my personal feelings about it, I don't expect the world to feel the same, though I do think it's important to pay respect and pay mind to this day in a serious and respectful manner. Not for anyone to drop everything that they're doing and focus on it completely. But even just five minutes out of your entire day to at least think about it shouldn't be too much to ask. And if someone doesn't care, keep it to themselves and be respectful. That's all. It just gets annoying when people outright disrespect and laugh about it. :/

I don't think I could forget what I was doing or where I was on 9/11 that year. It was such a bizarre day and well for New Yorkers here, maybe it is different for us on how we feel, and we can go to ground zero and still just be in awe. I have 'moved on' from it, of course, but it was a shock and since relatives knew people etc and a couple 2nd uncles of mine were killed in it, I guess it always stirs something in me. I can understand that people don't want to bother with it anymore, because time moves on but I cannot help but recall it. The 'conspiracy theory' kid was an idiot but in the end he's just trying to be cool. 9/11 also happened in 2001.

We saw a video that a college student made over the summer for 9/11. I cried, especially when they had the little girl talking to her dad's grave.

This was truly a dark day in America's history. I really hope nothing like this ever happens again.

I really find this whole ordeal quite funny. Yes, it's a tragedy, etc. but we forget that thousands of people die every day. If we bother having moments of silence for the dead, we should bother to do it every day for every unnamed person who died without us knowing them. The only reason you believe it is so important is because it happened in America and it could have happened to you. AIDS doesn't get moments of silence, starvation doesn't either, yet both kill daily, and rack up a devastating death count.

Now I'm not saying that the people who died don't matter, but I am saying that we have a double standard here, and until we either stop caring about all deaths we don't know personally or start caring about every death, we should stop making a fuss over specific things.

I don't think the most tragic part was all of the people dying. The most tragic part was probably how it effected everyone. I mean thousands of people do die everyday. But this particualr tragedy has a specific date. Therefore it's remembered.

Thousands of people die everyday, yes. I find it sad for a number of reasons. Some being:

-Innocent people died in an instant, in one big event. Not small events scattered throughout the world, people died in a variety of different ways in one day in one event.
-It's a shocking event. You could wake up and think "Someone probably died today of AIDS, or Cancer or murder or suicide" but how often do you think (before 9/11 happened) "I bet innocent people will suddenly die today because of an attack on America in New York city."
-This isn't true at all. If the same thing had happened in...Let's say Japan, I would be just as devastated and I would have done the same thing. Any tragedy is like this for me.
-Not everyday do you see people giving a true damn about someone's death. To be sitting innocently in a classroom and just see teachers run in, turn on the TV and break out in sobs is...Jeeze.
-Close friends of mine have lost someone from 9/11. I don't know how you can be close friends with someone and watch them cry and pray every 9/11 and not care. :/

It's not just a happens "everyday" sort of thing that most people are desensitized to. It's also not just a "people died today" thing.
