Would you rather be...

Sneaking up and making people blind or deaf. If I had that power, I'd be making some political figures that way. >.>

No, I didn't see Kanji, if this was a subject brought up. I just was sitting here and it popped into my head as a question to ask once I thought about it. I have both blind and deaf friends so it was something to ponder about what would it be like to live in their world, because the perceptions are different. They do sometimes give me some intriguing insight about it.

This is a really difficult one for me. If I was deaf I'd loose the ability to listen to music and verbally communicate, two things I find very important. But on the other hand, if I was blind I wouldn't be able to see so many beautiful and attractive things in this world. Plus most of my artistic side would go down the drain.

In the end though I think I would be most content with being deaf.

Hmm. I don't know. Without hearing, you wouldn't be able to listen to music, but without eye sight, you wouldn't be able to look at anything. But then again, there was a blind kid who could kill people at Tekken.

In my opinion,I would rather be deaf. I love to see and look at the world at how beautiful the world is. i love to draw, i love to paint, anything to do with visual arts (like Cin explained)

Being deaf for me wouldn't really cause a difference. I can learn sign language, and I can even READ. <3

To me, music does seem a little far fetched as some have gone over the limits. But hey, that still doesn't mean i wouldn't miss my hearing.

So for me, I'll choose being deaf. its not the end of the world, but at least i can see it.

This is definitely a difficult one for myself. I think I would rather be blind. I can still 1) listen to music, and 2) have feelings that can increase in reactivity to their surroundings (like the Dare Devil, only not as extreme O_O). Though I will have to sacrifice watching Lost and porn, I can deal. :3

    Wow, this is a great topic. 0_o;

I think your descision depends on what kind of person you are. If you're the type that likes to draw, paint, take pictures, etc., then you'd probably be better off deaf. If you're the type of person that loves music and plays an instrument or in a band, etc., then you'd probably want to be blind. Same goes for people who are and aren't social. It all depends.

As for me, I think I'd be better deaf. I'd prefer to be able to see my surroundings, and not being able to make art would suck away my will to live. D':
Besides, I could always learn sign language, and playing video games or watching a movie wouldn't be hard, since you can turn on subtitles. ;3

Can't I get deaf and then get some hearing aids? If that doesn't work, at least I'm able to read their mouths. :3

  12. Unlike most, this wasn't really hard for me. Is horrible to just lose one, and trust me, I would be depressed for days and days, but I'd choose to go deaf. There are arts of communicating and speaking without sound. There are hand-signals, mouth reading, and even then, as someone said aboe, you're not really deaf either. There are hearing aids. To the question that if there weren't any hearing aids, I'd still choose deaf.

I would not stand being blind, in fact, I love visual, I love drawings, I love seeing characters, I love to see what I write, I would like to remain seenng my loved ones and my future grandchildren than simply not seeing them at all, despite your other senses heigtening for the loss of the other. I prefer not to hear, is more smoother that way. The only thing that would be the down is the music, which I like to listen to, but otherwise...

    Deaf.

If I was forced to choose I would go with being blind. It would offer me a chance to see my common representations in a new light, figuratively of course. The change in perception and possibilities of utilizing touch interest me some what. Still having my hearing would give me an even greater incentive to take up a few instruments as well for a stimulating hobby.

I didn't really think of that option to put on the poll. I suppose part of the reason is because if you are deaf, before you get to comprehend how it affects you, you are also mute. Deaf people can learn to read lips and speak but it takes some effort, so it seems more on par with being blind because both cause someone to entirely restructure their whole lives. Also, sound and sight are two very important senses. Not sure just not being able to speak would have the same impact, though I could be wrong. I know if I had a choice between the three, I'd easily choose mute.

Hmm... Well I thought about this really hard... and I choose to be DEAF. I admit that my life revolves around music, and I CANNOT live without it, but I love my vision more than music. I want to look and admire the world for what it is. I want to be able to see the new things that the world still holds. I want to look at the beauty of nature and uncover its secrets, I just want to lay in one place and stare into spcae. My friend tells me that I'm the only one who can find beauty in a mere blade of grass (true.. I agree with her). I space out watching the clouds go by (and perhaps I daydream too much), and if I'd lost my sight, I'd not be able to do any of these things that I love so much. The vibrants colors of the world is beauty, and the living organisms are also beauty. Seeing people's faces does not interest me (I've seen enought of that), but just the world itself calls my name. =]
Being deaf allows for me to still look at the things I love. Though I'd kill to hear the sound of the wind, and the waterfall, but feeling it and seeing just seeing them in motion, will make me just as happy.

    yeah but unfortunately..

I'm heading straight for both deafness and blindness.. <_< My eyes are worsening by day (my optometrist freaks out each time)... and perhaps I should turn down the volume of my iPod. And uhh I also should stay away from the (extra) radiations... symptoms of early alzheimer is slowly worming in... *sigh* (seriously... T_T)

I'd be deaf because living life without seeing anything would be hard.

I mean never being able the see the people you care about, because you can only imagine what they look like. You would always need someone to help you get somewhere and I don't want to depend to much on other people.

I could live without music because I don't listen to it as much as I want to, because my overprotective parents don't want me to ruin my hearing. What would suck about being deaf is that I can't hear anything from video games.

Either way I get heightened senses...plus there is a way to fix blindness/deafness(at least by the time I get a little older). I choose being blind...but I think I would rather see than to hear...why do people think that only blindness enhances your other senses??
