To be Blind or Deaf

Alright, a hypothetical question for you all. Now let's say you were one day faced with the dilemma you could choose whether to be blind for the rest of your life or deaf. The reasons for this, I'm not going to try to make up, but I just am interested to see what people would miss more...the ability to see or the ability to hear.

If you could also provide reasons, I'd appreciate it.

 

Blind... I can't stand a world without noise.. and not being able to see brings your other senses up

 

i picked blind , if i coudnt hear it would realy be cofussing.

 

I picked blind because I wouldn't be able to go through life without music.

 

I'd rather be deaf. I love the ability to see. Seeing is just... somehow better than hearing I guess. And, it's not like I'll never understand anyone again. I will learn more sign language =D

The only thing I'd miss is my sweet, sweet I-pod.

 

I say deaf, firstly cause to me sight is a big thing seeing something over hearing something is much more sentimental to my senses no matter how F'd up my sight really is. And because your forms of communication I feel are more useful you know what you are doing and where you are going, to be blind would just be like a hell to get around I think. Though I know over time you know what is what but still you don't really know do you. So I say Deaf.

 

I'd go deaf. Because I'd rather see the world then hear it. It would be hard to live with being blind if you ask me.
Plus the world is so noisy. You might have your up and downs, but in the end, it'll all be good with me. Because then I could drive, and stuff. :/

I wouldn't have to have someone go out for me, to get my things. You know? I'd find it hard to go blind. :/

 

This is hard, if i was blind, i would have a hard time drawing, but my drawings are inspired by music so ummm i would be deaf

 

This is interesting. It's about half and half. I would probably choose to be deaf because being blind, it would be dark all of the time and I'd probably want to sleep a lot and not do as much. Both kind of make you feel alone until you can get a grasp on it, but with sign language, I'd be alright. I would terribly miss music though.

 

My life revolves around visual arts, I love writing, drawing, painting, I live life to see and to make sights for others. If I were to go blind, I don't think I'd have much to live for. My eyes are, admitedly deteriorating a lot lately, and I feel like it'd be a tradgey to go blind, you can't be like Beethoven in visual art, you need to see what you're doing. My world is a visual world, and without vision, it would be an impenitrable darkness that would leave me with nothing but sound, smell, touch, and I personally have no idea how I could emotionally let go of my sight and still be able to have the drive and energy to coordinate my remaining senses to make up for the blindness. And I don't listen to much music, or any for that matter. So ti wouldn't be much of a loss.

I'd choose to be deaf.

 

Is this some kind of plot? Are you going to sneak up to our houses at night and blind us or make us deaf?!
I would choose to be blind. Music is the best thing ever.

 

Its hard to choose...because I love music and I can't live without it, but I love drawing and writing. So I don't know I'd rather be deaf.

 

I pick blind because my eyesight isn't that good anyway. Plus we wouldn't want another Beethoven...

Well, you could still write if you were blind. There are braille typewriters. :)

 

Id go deaf cuz i need my eyes for video games and other things <_<

 

id rather be able to here music. i can already read brail so i am not worried about reading, i have 20-20 vision. i have no worries

 

My sight...

Well, considering my eyesight's failing rapidly and my eyes can't go through Lasik due to cataracts, the decision's pretty much being made for me. I'll eventually go blind, so this isn't up for debate. :cryinganime:

 

Its not just lack of sight that brings ur other senses up...without hearing, your eyesight goes up as well. Your senses increase to "cover up" what you dont have or lost, so that your body isnt at so much of a disadvantage. for example, if u lost ur ability to smell, your eyesight and hearing would increase.

I choose deaf. Without sight, I wouldnt be able to see things, and for me, I HAVE TO SEE EVERYTHING...dont take that the wrong way.

~But seriously~

Tons of things can be done while being deaf, even more so than without sight. I wouldnt be able to drive, work on a math problem, READ even, without sight and that doesnt even count like a million other things. Music is great, but colors, people, kh vids forums..., (sappy, i know) :p all of them would be lost...

 

I'd better be deaf. If I'm blind, I might be in the world of darkness forever and I won't be able to see the world.
