Okay, so this question was totally inspired by my inquisitive mind. And I thought it would be good to ask some of the smarter members of the forum.

If you could go back and view any time period in history, where would you visit and why?

Now, I want intellectual responses, no spam, proper grammar and spelling, and would like a real response.

I don't want a response like this: "I would go back to look at the amazing hot women that were back then" that is a crap response and will not be tolerated, if I see it, I will report you to a staff member.

I'm honestly happy in the time period we're in. A lot of people view the time period that they're living in as horrible, because they're focusing on all the bad events that have gone on in their time. They build up other time periods in their minds as 'golden ages'. These times had their share of problems too. Our good memories usually aren't as good as we remember them.

But I suppose if I really had to choose, probably sometime in Ancient Greece. I'm blown away by their art and literature and I'd love to experience it first hand.

To view, I would love to see the time around 1 AD. Just to settle the arguments once and for all. Alternatively, I would like to see the dawn of the universe.

Oo~ this is a good one. Good job.

There are a lot of time periods I'd like to visit. However, the one time period I'd most love to visit without any other exception would be the Ancient Egyptian times. I adore the Ancient Egyptian culture, art, myths, and of course the Gods and Goddesses. I think it was a very fascinating time when this great civilizations were barely starting out, making their rules, empires and trying to figure out explanations of a world that was both open, but also unknown and hostile to them. I'd love to visit the palaces of the Pharaohs and look at the lovely painted women and the decorated walls. I'd want to see the awesome, great structures they built. I just think it was such a great, and fascinating time in our history. I'd give anything to see this time in my own two eyes, and I'd love every moment of it.

Other than Ancient Egypt, I'd like to visit Ancient Greece and Rome for their art and early science, the philosophy, myths, architecture and etc.

Lastly, as being a nature girl, and being extremely interested in Palenotology, I'd also love to go back to the Carboniforous period [when the first reptile walked the Earth and it was a swampy and forest-y area], Permian period [when larger reptiles, with sails appeared], and the Triassic and Jurassic period [for the dinosaurs and early birds].

View, or exist in? I might find 1 b.c. to be interesting, but I'd hate to live there.

I have to agree with Pyro, Ancient Eygpt and the various Prehistoric areas would be the most interesting to visit. Although I think it would also be fun to visit the sixties and onwards, where mankind really started coming into its own with technology.

Same here, I thought that the ancient Greeks started a chain of insperation that led to some amazing advances, and I would love to experience some of those things.

Thanks, I have my moments....anyways, I would like to visit ancient Egypt also, because of the advances that they held. Such as their methods for preserving the dead, their belief system, and many other unimaginable contributions.

Ummm, it doesn't matter, you could live there or just be a viewer and not have an "existance" in that period...

I would choose the beginning of time. I believe that it would solve many mysteries that tortured humanity throughout its existence, like how was the universe created and such things.

In all it's gruesomeness and horridness, I've been really interested in WW2. I dunno why, but it's been one of my favorite things to study in school since 7th grade. It's got a sense of something that happened far off and a long time ago, but at the same time it feels like it is something current, happening in my backyard. It's weird, I'm horrified by the facts of it, but can't help but to study about it.

But ancient Greece and Rome would be fun to see too, I love philosophy, and would love to see what practically created it.

There are heaps of places I'd want to visit if I could time travel. First off, the prehistoric times and ancient countries are a must. They have a lot of history back then and I know it'd be a great experience. Ancient Greece and Rome would be an experience of a lifetime, its mesmorizing when you learn about it, but to actually see it would mean a lot more.

I'd go back to William Shakespeare, Emily Bronte, Jane Austen and Charles ****ens times. They're all world-wide famous writers and to see what inspired them to write such epic stories would be a dream come true.

I know a lot about World Wars I & II. I end up reading a lot of true and fiction stories about those times. Always Hitler, always the Nazis and always the Jews. I think it'd be eye-opening to us who are now in the modern age to realise just how lucky we really are.

From the 50s to the 80s would be amazing. To be able to live through Michael Jackson, Elvis Presely, Maryline Monroe & heaps more who shaped the Rock n'Roll & Pop music we know today would be incredible.

I'd go back to see the Rise of Genghis Khans empire from Mongolia, he came from being stranded in the wilderness, trying to survive, to conquering 1/3 of the worlds population defeating anyone that oppossed. One of the smartest war leaders in history, i'd love to see how he worked.
I'd like to go back and see Leonardo Da Vinci when he was drawing all that creative art and schematics, he designed some of the greatest inventions of the 'new world'.
Not to mention seeing how Jesus and Buddha worked their magic on the world.
Oh and Albert Einstein, smartest guy 'ever' and he had a sense of humour, i'd go have a drink with the good man anytime.

Dic kens is a bad word to say?
Oh come on, it would be good to see all these 'beauties' of history are as true as the stories say, like cleopatra whos charm could apparently sway any man. I mean it is interesting to wonder.

Cleopatra actually got by more on verbal charm and power than looks, according to facial reconstructions. But yea, I would be interested in seeing the origins of certain myths, myself.

Any period in time? I want to go back and see some dinosaurs for sure. Just being able to see them in motion would be breathtaking.

The glory days of Sumerian civilization, because it was most likely the first place to develop writing.

I would visit the last day of planet Earth, to see how and when it will end and to know how much time we have left (would make preparations for the end of the world more efficient and all that). That's only if I can go back though.

If I wouldn't be able to return I'd still opt for the future rather than the past. Let's say 500 years from now. The past is boring; from historical texts we already have information on how the people lived. The future is unpredictable and far more exciting.

The time period I'd really like to see...

About the peak of Andalusian Spain. Mostly because all of the amazing historical architecture. I would be so excited to see all the great places being built. The Caliph's palace ... the Mosque of Cordoba ... the Caliph's royal garden. There are a lot of things I'd like to see. The culture and poetry are things I've always wanted to experience, too. It was said to be spectacularly diverse ... that's something I'd like to see for myself. Being able to spend the Tenth century in Spain would be the best thing ever for me.

If I was able to go to any time period....
I think I would enjoy the late 1800's in England. I've read one too many books about that time period, and I want to visit it now. Plus, I'd like to see the Crystal Palace before it was destroyed.

You know what I meant, I didn't realise until now actually that it was censored.

Yes, this is quite true. I had an asssignment on Ancient Egypt last year & decided to do Cleopatra. She was of high intelligence, but her looks were somewhat masculine.

But seriously don't compare me, ironically enough my username is Cleopatra, I have intelligence but I don't think my features are at all masculine. xD
