Developer: 11 bit studios Release: 2014 Genre: Survival Platform: PC Publisher: 11 bit studios Website: http://www.thiswarofmine.com At first glance, this looks like any normal military shooter, but I realized instead of playing a soldier, it focuses on the view of the citizens in a city besieged by war. For me, this looks very interesting. It takes on a unique perspective in a generic setting. Though I do have my doubts. Using emotions in a teaser is a risky move. I was fooled once by Dead Island. I'll keep by before putting down my final thoughts.
Honestly at first when I saw the thumbnail for the video I just thought of COD for obvious reasons but then I read the description and for once...I don't know. The concept seems good but I don't know if a game of it should be made really a war survival game with snipers everywhere I don't know. We'll have to see more gameplay I can't get much of an impression without solid footage of gameplay
I was gonna mention that. I'm not sure if the whole survival part will ruin the game's atmosphere from making it a tearing, emotional war game to more of a "QUICK-GRAB-WHAT-YOU-CAN" survival game. Also to mention. Examining the art style, it seems this game could be a point-and-click game with it's gritty and grainy art style.
You can have both, especially at different parts of the game. I imagine you start of as a tear rideen player who gets emotionally distraught before you start to actually think like a survivor and numb yourself to the morality of it all. Which would be a great commentary on war affected people. Trailer samples Omega's Gyongyhaju Iany (also sampled on Kanye West's New Slave track, took me ages to realise) which is an emotive song as is. Interesting, this could be terrific if the story ramps up the process of being a war torn survivor.
\ No no the survival aspect actually seems like a fine enough game as I said the concept of it seems good. It's just the way they plan it out they need to make it more variety less repetitive because survival games are always repetitive.
http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/03/18/gdc-this-war-of-mine-might-be-the-war-game-we-need At GDC, IGN interviewed the Senior Writer at 11 Bit and got to play a bit of the game. What really intrigues my is that the whole set is randomized. Items, characters, and others. Seeing this as a story-heavy game, randomization is not something one should be aiming for. Then again, they did talk a lot about the game Papers, Please that revolved also on a similar topic and playstyle. Perhaps only key elements would be fixed while everything else is random?
At PAX East 14, an editor played the game and told his experiences with the game. http://www.sidequesting.com/2014/04/pax-east-14-this-war-of-mine-took-an-emotional-toll-on-me/ Based on what he experienced, we know things about the game: A point and click game similar to The Walking Dead (not the icky FPS) "There is no wrong or right or morale choice in the game." Set on a more emotional scale Game length is random Trading is a big part in the game People in your group can leave or die based on events Hopefully we hear more about this at E3. So far, I'm very excited with all the features this game has based on what the editor experienced.
