if my opponent activates REDMD's effect to summon itself, and I chain a trap that forces me to discard a Catsith, effects triggered mid-chain resolve as a separate chain, so could my Catsith destroy REDMD before it had a chance to use it's effect to summon something else despite Priority?

 

...whats RDMD? o_o

No, you cant...
even if Catsith destroys RDMD, it wont negate its effect.

Edit: this is like the MST vs spell speed 2 or if it was the last to activate in the chain...
even if destroyed, its effect still activates...

 

but can I destroy it before it has a chance to activate it's effect, is what I'm wondering.

I thought you meant chaining to RDMD to special summon another dragon lol

if you chain a card that forces you to discard a card to the "Remove from play then special summon RDMD" effect, it wouldnt destroy RDMD cuz it misses timing...
first to resolve is the discarding then Catsith...
then after Catsith resolves the special summoning of RDMD resolves THEN it comes to the field.

if you meant special summoning another dragon with RDMD's effect...
it would still be a no, since its effect already activated and Catsith only destroys not negate.

Edit: unless you use Catsith to destroy the monster that was going to be removed from play to special summon RDMD...
it would make RDMD resolve without effect...
thats the only way I think you can stop RDMD from using its 2nd effect with a destruction card...
unless the guy normal summons him xD then you can chain to its normal summon before he can activate RDMD's effect.

 

after discarding Catsith resolves, summoning RDMD resolves, then after that, shouldn't the immediate next thing to activate be Catsith's destruction effect? And then RDMD would never get a chance to activate it's effect because it was destroyed?

yes if Catsith resolves after the first chain, you can destroy RDMD before it has a chance to use its other effect.

Actually, That card is named after the Greek god Thanatos, the personification of death and mortality it's the Dark counterpart of The Fabled Unicore mounted with Fabled Ragin.

EDIT: So it's actually not a part of the fabled archetype.
