    Both of the times his monsters were destroyed, replays occurred. Thus, he declared the attack again and I could chain.

    EDIT:
    ... someone check this for me, now i'm doubting it. xD

    no, if the attack loses or gains monsters there isn't a replay, only if the defender does.

    Edit: oh, and replays don't make you declare an attack again anyway, or at least they don't let me activate Krebons..
