The Years to Come

Taralynn rolled her eyes, quickly eating the food Jack had brought. "No," she began quietly. "Sleeping is more like it; I don't rest well at night here, so it's hard to stay up during the day." She sighed, yawning. Her hand fell absently on her diary again. She should be more careful about leaving it open for too long.

She gave Jack a sweet smile after yawning, putting a hand on his shoulder closest to her. "So what have you been up to this morning? Been using your free period... appropriately?"

 

Ro,after getting fed up of sitting at the wall...stood up.
"Now what?" she sighed,looking around...
"I might just go back to the Common Room for a while".
She set off towards it,managing to walk past her Potions class on the way,as she was busy laughing at some Third years awful hairstyle.
"Flying Troll" she said,before walking in.

 

" I-What if the chamber really is open. Muggle borns were the one's who got attacked.... And I..." She almost didn't finish as they reached the greenhouse.
"I'm a Muggle Born," she whispered.

 

Tybalt felt bad that it was his sister that stopped them from entering the library. He couldn't say anything as long as Juliet was following him, and the last thing he wanted was a Howler from his parents because Juliet decided to rat him out. When he and Olivia reached their History of Magic class, he whispered, "Do you want to try the library again during lunch? We could try to tell the Slytherin girl during our break."

 

"We could couldn't we?" Olivia replied next to Tybalt, "But your sister..."

She wouldn't try to stop them again, would she? Just because Juliet was older and didn't believe

anything was going on, didn't mean that there really wasn't. This could really be serious, and Olivia wanted to know about it as much was she could so they could find something to do about it...

"I think that sounds like a good idea Tybalt, we should go during lunch." she said, "The girl's name is Faye, and she's a first year Slytherin, so hopefully she sits there... It shouldn't be that hard to find her..." Maybe even Jack would come.

 

Jacob nodded to the few people, and headed off towards the Greenhouse. Perking his ears, he heard snippets of a conversation sounding as if they were going to the library after lunch. He swore under his breath. If they got into the library, they would notice someone was researching the Chamber. He wished he'd covered his tracks better. Did he put away all the books? He couldn't remember. He swore again, and threw open the doors. He walked through the grass out to the greenhouse. He had to find a way to keep his path secret... but what could he do? He yanked open the Greenhouse doors. To his surprise, the kids seemed to have just begun. He shrugged and glanced at Professor Umbry. He waved to her, calling, "Excuse me, Professor? I'm a bit late, what'll we be doing today?" he flashed a smile towards the woman, hoping to win some points.

 

"Mister Starlit," Professor Umbry raised an eyebrow. "Yes, you're late. That's five points from Ravenclaw." She lightened up. "But you can earn those back during this class."

"I'm a half-blood," Ben said. "Besides, there aren't really that many pure-blooded witches or wizards anymore. If anything does happen, practically the whole student body would be in danger." He stopped, realizing that he wasn't being much of a help. "Sorry."

Jack stood and paced. "Of course," he answered after making sure they were the only two in the common room. "This school is riddled with Mudbloods. I almost can't decide what order to take them out in. But that Head Girl of Hufflepuff has caused me some trouble...." He stopped near the fireplace, running his hand across the spotless mantle. His eyes closed as he tried to sort out his thoughts. Turning Hogwarts into a perfect school was a lot to do for one fifth year boy and seventh year girl. He sighed, opening his eyes again. "I want Faye with us; the first year Slytherin. She's stupid and naive, and I've already got her wrapped around my finger." He raised a fist, then lowered it. "Would you stay with me though? I need you."

 

Taralynn clenched her hands into excited fists as she watched and listened to Jack; as usual, her emotions were getting the better of her. She admired (a little too much) how well his thought-process worked at such a young age. And did he really say "need"? Her nails dug into the dark leather of her diary as she thought of the word, a smirk of a grin rising on her face.

He needs me, she ranted in her own mind. This is my chance, to prove to everyone how wrong they are... he's so clever, I know he can do it...

Taralynn jumped suddenly to her feet, clinging her diary to her chest. "Yes, of course, Jack!" she responded fervently, her uncontrollable emotions making her voice little more than a raspy whisper. "Whatever you want..." She walked toward Jack till she stood behind him, trying to get a further gauge on his feelings. "I'll get both the girls for you tonight if you want... I'll get Faye to meet us, and that Hufflepuff girl won't be a problem, either, once it's dark."

 

"On second thought," Jack grinned at Taralynn over his shoulder. "I want to play with that Head Girl. Let's make a game of this... and see who gets caught first. And Faye? She'll come to me. But I'm starting to worry about," he hesistated. "getting caught. The ghosts in this school seem to see everything. I should have thought about this!" He pounded his fist on the mantle. "What if they go into the Chamber? Can they even be petrified by my basilisk?" He grit his teeth. He thought his plan had been bullet proof, but now there was a hole in it. Jack's family had paid a good sum of gold for that 30 foot long basilisk and he couldn't let it go to waste. His parents had put so much pressure on him when they found out he was a Parselmouth; something he hadn't exactly said outright to Taralynn yet.

 

Jacob sighed. "Of course, Professor." He faked a smile and walked to a corner of the greenhouse. He looked down at the plants and almost laughed. Earlier he was worrying about The Chamber of Secrets, and now he was examining plants. He glanced around at the other students. All of them... Some could be Half-bloods. Some of them had to be. If it really was open... they all could die. They could all be gone. He had to save them... Or at least try. He stared at the plant in front of him, planting his hands on the table and gritting his teeth. He needed to stop hiding himself... He needed help. Someone in the Greenhouse? One of the people he saw in the hall? It all had to play into his hands.

 

Taralynn's smile fell when she saw Jack's frustration. "Well..." she began uncertainly, unsure if she could think of any solutions to the problems that were obviously bothering him. An idea suddenly dawned on her, however, and she slipped her diary into her back pocket so she could put both hands on Jack's shoulders, massaging them. "Ghosts can be banished, Jack," she started quietly. "It's been done before; it's just a matter of finding the right incantation for it, and casting it at the right time with the right amount of magical experience and strength." She paused and her smile returned. "I have both of those."

 

"Yeah, that sounds like a good idea," Tybalt said to Olivia. Part of him hoped that the Professor would discuss what it was like when Harry Potter entered the Chamber the second time that it was opened, but there was no luck. In fact, Professor Smives reenforced the fact that every magically possible has been done to forever seal the Secret Chamber of Salazar Slytherin. "I'll meet you at the table in the Great Hall," Tybalt whispered to Olivia.

Juliet was running late for her own class, which caused her to sweat. She wanted to make sure the young Slytherin made it all the way to her class. She couldn't ignore the fact that Jack was with them. She knew he had a reputation around the school for causing trouble and manipulating younger students for a number of reasons."May I ask what the two of you were doing with that guy," Juliet asked Faye.

 

Silea started getting impatient. She wanted to wait till her next class so she didn't have to wait for anyone, and yet, she also wanted to go in the Library and just start looking for some info at that moment. "Hmm, what to do. I know I shouldn't skip my classes but I'm already skipping one, and I really want to look up some info on the Chamber of Secrets." Silea started getting jumpy, not being able to stand still much longer.

 

Layla sighed and just looked at the professor. She hoped that class would start soon. The sooner it did the sooner this day would be over.

 

Ben pulled out his class book, 1000 Herbs and Where to Find Them. He flipped it open and showed the page to Layla. "Hey. You said last time that they used Mandrakes to for something, right?" he tapped the picture of the Mandrake on the page. "Let's see if we can find one in here."

This time Jack didn't move away from Taralynn. His anger at himself simmered down as he thought about what she'd said. "I'll leave them up to you then," he said coolly. "Peeves is the most bothersome... But we shouldn't touch the House ghosts; that would cause suspicion."

 

Jacob glanced at the plant in front of him. Mandrake. The most annoying plant of the wizarding world. Well, maybe the Whomping Willow. He smirked. It would be hilarious to uproot the small plant and cause it to scream. But, his ears would get hurt too. Speaking of ears, he heard some first years looking for a Mandrake. Now, what would they want it for? Ah, well, he could be manipulative if he wanted to be. He smiled. These first-years could be just what he needed to help stop the Chamber. He smiled and waved at them. "Now, I wasn't eavesdropping, but I couldn't help but notice you're looking for a Mandrake." he said, winking. "Funny thing is, I just happened to see one, at my station. If you want to check it out, that's fine..." he said. He couldn't help but think this was his chance.

 

"Oh that's cool to know they have them," said Layla faking a smile.
"At least they have backup just in case the chamber really is open," she said sighing in raleaf.

 

Taralynn frowned, a little disappointed; she thought, at this point, that banishing all the ghosts from the castle would give everyone enough of a scare to prove their intentions... and show them that they were serious. If she found the incantation, she could take care of Peeves tonight with no problem... and the House ghosts would get theirs at the right time.

"I'll go to the library now; I'll even get a pass from Professor Smives to go into the restricted section and look for the banishing spell." Taralynn knew that Smives, the Head of Slytherin House, liked her; getting permission would be easy. She looked expectantly at Jack, hoping her ideas met his approval and lightened his mood.

 

"Whoa," Ben scurried over to where Jacob was, practically sticking his face up to the potted Mandrake. He'd never gotten to see one up close before and they were one of his favorite plants. "Hey thanks!" He smiled at Jacob. Everything Ben had read about Mandrakes said that they could reverse petrification, but he still needed to find out how. "These are so cool," he commented to himself as he touched a leaf.

"Perfect," Jack agreed. Today would be the day to handle all of details he wanted to; tomorrow afternoon was the first Quidditch match of the year -- Slytherin against Gryffindor. He hadn't made up his mind yet if he was going to the game or not.

Faye sat there, in potions class, looking across the classroom simply waiting for her next class. Potions was fun, and it was rather easy but she never really enjoyed it. At least Ms. Jennifer wouldn't nag on her since she has pretty good at the class but really, Ms. Jennifer wouldn't nag at anyone. She was very nice and enjoyed her company and how she taught. Faye just sometimes wished that Ms. Jennifer taught another class, something she might enjoy a little more.
Faye's fingers played with the corners of the pages of her open Potion's book. It lay on top of her History of Magic book. Her mind began to ramble on the things that happened so far. Meeting Olivia was very nice, she seemed like a lovely girl. Then coming across the two siblings - quite tense, but the boy seemed awful nice too. Then another male popped in, but Faye couldn't get much out of it because she had to enter Potions already. She left with a little 'good-bye' before departing from the group.
