Recently learned that one of their albums is about the book I'm reading now. Once I finish I'm gonna have to get into them.

Oh, guess it's not the whole album after all! Just two songs on Doppelgänger. The book is House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski. Awesome book but a real chore to get through.

after declaring this one of my favorite songs, a friend of mine said it was "too country" so he "couldn't take it seriously" and proceeded to throw insults at it

Oh I see. I'm not a tfot expert so I wasn't aware of those influences. I don't want to taint your introduction to their music, but suffice it to say that Doppelganger isn't entirely to my tastes. I prefer the polished perfection of their middle era.
