You know what? Don't appologise firstly because I like being philosophical! And secondly that is probably the best answer I've been given! Not to say the others weren't good because they were, but this was my favourite so far! Thanks :D

Trust me you will never see scientist's ever say its infinate, just like how they avoid the question(if they believe in the big bang) what was before the light that created the big bang.

Space is not expanding. All galaxies are moving away from each other from a fixed point, like a circle.

Unfortunately, no one knows at all if it even expands into anything because the universe is impossible to travel at the moment.

So basically, we won't be knowing for a long time. However there is theory's, that is all.

i don't have anymore insight on the universe expanding thing. but as for the other life bit, has anyone heard of something called the holoverse or multiverse? it the idea that there are multiple universes existing in alternite dimensions. and by multiple i mean think about each atom in our universe representing another universe. if odds of creating intelligent life are 1 in 999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999 but you have a near infinte ammount ammount of chances (not including the fact that have multiple chances in one unverse), then can you logically say it's even a possability for there not to be?

actually the number is 42 and it's from the hitch hikers guide to the galaxy.

the answer's in your question: the universe is everything and it expands into nothing and this makes sense because nothing isnt part of everything cause it's not! So the universe expands into what was (and still is) from before the big bang, well all of that that remains anyways. we are probably just one big infinite plain, one part of it containing life. I think i just confused myslef, but oh well.

    I think
    The universe is everything
so what it is expanding into becomes part of that everything as it is expanded.. man i dont think tht makes sense to anybody but me
and i woder about that other theory, that if u went forward in one direction in space eventually you'd end up where u started.. apparently
oh nd i so belive in aliens.. not silly green martians but creatures similar to ourselves.. prehaps even more intelligent

You guys, seriously, look at the last date someone posted before you post.
Because people really don't like a year and two month necrobump.

I don't mind necrobumps really in here as long as there's a reason. The last post though has me wondering.

True, but still...there have been several universe-related topics since this one, and this was made back when CtR was - *gasp* - a normal member.

That's why it's a classic! Now we can all browse through and see CtR as a regular user amongst some others from back when and see how much they've changed. I'll go ahead and leave it open since people are responding to it.

It's expanding into nothing, that will make something.
hmm, the english vocab doesn't really explain it correctly, simply, as it expands it is like a small snowball, that rolls down a hill, each passing moment, it grows slightly bigger, and this hill is never ending, the snow will always be there, it will grow into more of iself, fore as long as it moves.

heres what i think the univers is simply growing and with nothing beyond it it is simply getting bigger as a cause to the fact that theres nothing holding it to keep that shape and sise

I have somewhat of an idea...

I dont think its expanding in the literal sense...I think it is as society progresses, in terms of technology, politics, lots of things. Like the iPhone...200 hundred years ago, there was no such existance...but now we have it, so in a way you can see the universe...our universes (if you can get that) have expanded. Sure, the iphone is made of bits of metal, plastic, and silicon (showing how our universe hasnt expanded in the literal sense) but now that its out, its a new innovation and a step forward...so...something better will be made soon, and we would have "expanded."

On the other hand, man has found ways to take certain things on Earth and create them without them naturally occuring...like certain elements in our periodic table...
