The U.S. Constitution's 4th Amendment Dies Today

Yeah. Heck, I'm a Catholic Democrat. Personally, I think Bush was planning the war all along, and when the CIA told him the possibility of an attack, he saw the perfect opportunity. 9/11 was his blank check to start the war.

And really, what's the point of parties? They just distract us from the real issue: keeping the power with the people.

 

i usually don't complain when one our rights are threatned or violated but this is a little too uncomfortable for me. i really wouldn't want cops coming to my house for no reason.

 

In relation to the comments made about whether responsibility lies with the administration or with Bush himself, as President of the United States, Bush is officially responsible for all actions his administration takes.

I'd like to take this opportunity to give an outsider's perspective on the whole situation. As a European citizen, I can say without a doubt that the USA is no longer seen as the "land of opportunity" here, but rather as a country in crisis, being ruled by a corrupt government. Whether that is entirely accurate or not is debatable, but it seems to me that this is at least partly true. Bush himself is, sadly, the laughing stock of many people, at least in Ireland. Mainly because of his decision to launch a full scale war without any definite, material reason, which must be considered outrageous by anyone's standards. Many people here see the USA as a country in which people's rights and liberties are rapidly disappearing.

I would like to conclude with the comment that just because you disagree with someone's opinion, doesn't mean that you have to be enemies, or at each other's throats. I disagree with my friends all the time, yet we're still friends.

Seconded. The whole point of friendship is that you can disagree, yet still be friends. But that's getting off-topic, so...

 

You make some good points and it is always welcome to hear what people not in our country think, even though sometimes I hear they think of Americans as idiots who refuse to learn a second language, have lost culture and are all cowboys or something. Bush has in many ways hurt us as far as relations go with our friends overseas, let alone I've been pressed to try to 'prove' myself and say I am an American and not particularly so dumb. I know dumb people. We all do. Bush though has really made all of us look stupid and I do hope that people overseas do understand not all of us are like that and we -do- care about other nations and people and aren't all just stuck on ourselves. We have our great people and our less than great ones, just like every place else.

Also, you are right. It's one thing to disagree with someone's opinion and it doesn't make people necessarily enemies. Some of my best friends irl and on the internet are people I consider very intelligent even though we do debate on a fair many issues. Friendship is hard to find and obviously if you are friends with someone, even if you disagree on some points, even adamantly, there are still a number of other reasons that person is your friend. Well said and that's something for us all to keep in mind.

 

Well this is off topic, but I think Congress was simply fed up with all the terrorism and us doing nothing about it. During the Clinton Administration there were 2 attacks on the U.S. (I believe it was 2, I was young at the time so don't hold me to it) and we did nothing. 9/11 was just too much so Congress decided to finally take action with a Republican president.

And concerning the parties, they're bound to form in a democratic society even if they are disbanded. Politicians with similar views will align and then we're right back to square one.
