In this thread I wanted to talk about keyblades. I have several theories involving them, but I pretty much wanted to talk about these issues with the keyblade.

    1. Keychain Keyblades vs. Unchained Keyblades: Whats the difference?
    2. The relationship between Way to the Dawn, Soul Eater and the Dark Apprentices' keyblade.
    3. Do keyblades really require strong hearts to use them? We see Roxas and Xion with them, but they are "supposedly" nobodies
    4. Does the keyblade give the wielder power or does the wielder already have power? For example, Sora is super strong, he can fly, hes super fast, hes pretty much superman...
    5. Why is the Kingdom Key a "starter" keyblade? All of the keys owned by Sora are basically the kingdom key with a different keychain...
    6. What happens if a keyblade breaks? Can they break?

As you can see I'm bored, but I've pondered this for years. (Since kh1). Discuss.

I might regret this later, but, for 3, didn't Nomura say that that is a pretty big hint to the true nature of Xion and Roxas or something like that?

I bet Nomura doesn't even have a real explanation for number 3, or at least he didn't have one for when he made KH2 and now has to think of something to explain it since someone asked, thats probibly the same reason he always answers in riddles. Anywho:

    1. I don't know but I have always wondered if the main keyblade Sora uses is actually all the old keyblades from the past fused together with some sort of powerful magic. Hence all its power. Just a quick thought.

    2. Probibly the Twilight attribute would be enough of an explanation, Soul Eater is a sword given to Riku right and it has dark power and Riku naturally has the power of light just like Sora and when he has the two combined it fused the Soul Eater with the power of Riku's heart and awoke a keyblade. It maybe the same with the Apprentice. Who knows?

    3. like I said in the top bit XD

    4. I think they have the power inside them already but its dormant and gradually wakes up and grows stronger, I think its the same for everyone they have a balance of light and darkness. Thats why the older characters seem to be stronger and the keyblade is just a form of this power but Sora's one is a weapon from the past laid dormant, Mickey's is the mirror version of Sora's from another dimension and Riku's is as I explained in #2.

    5. Its a game what do you expect.

    6. Blacksmith? Yen Sid? Moogles? It might be like the sword on Tenchu when that broke, go find a black smith XD

Anywho take what i'v said lightly, there only rambalings so don't class them with theories because little thought was put into these XD

    Hmmm.... Pretty sharp questions

    5. Because it has a simple design; in almost every game you start with a sword that has a simple design plus it has the "Disney" symbol (mickey mouse head) on it. Mickey is the king in this game and if you look closely at the end of the keyblade you can see a crown ( Even Sora's necklace is a crown ).

    6. I guess the Keyblade can break if the heart of the user gets weaker and weaker (?) ( Maybe in KH 3 it will break :P who knows? )
    ... just a theory

I guess I phrased the question a little weirdly, lol, I meant for 5, why the kingdom key is a starter keyblade as opposed to decisive pumpkin or metal chocobo? Why is that keychains are added to the kingdom key and not some other keyblade...?

Well, The Kingdom Key is the main because it's like the starting memory...See, The heart forms because of memories, So like Metal Chocobo is the memory of Cloud and so on...so it latches onto the source, Thus the keychains are formed..

    Main Memory= Kingdom Key
    Sub-Memories=Other Keyblades

    That simple, I think

    to 5....

you start off with kingdom key because that is Sora's keyblade, that is his 'buster sword', i think the addition of other keyblades just make the game more interesting...and or show that they are many keyblades

You know I actually wonder what will happen if Sora puts the Kingdom Key chain away? Will it still be the same key? Or will it change in shape? ·_·

    1. The difference could be a simple one; such as the unchained keyblade not gaining new chains (which would allow the Kingdom Key in the previous installments to change shape into what the keychain would allow), or something on a much grander scale.

    2. The first two keyblades, Soul Eater and Way to Dawn, were affected by the darkness in Riku's heart. The Soul Eater was forged completely out of darkness, while the Way to Dawn was halfway between light and dark, hence "dawn". If this pattern continues, it may be that the keyblade of the apprentice is solely based on the light. That, or it is simply aesthetic.

    3. Real keyblades may, but we seem to know that Xion's keyblade is a fake, and Roxas has an enough degree of emotions that he is able to wield the keyblade. That, and he is also the nobody of the keyblade master. So in a way, Roxas and Xion are simply exceptions to this rule.

    4. I like to think that the keyblade is able to "unlock" the "superpowers" one can find in their hearts. These powers are inside Sora, but before he received the keyblade, he could not use them.

    5. It could be simply that the Kingdom Key is a "basic" keyblade, in which the other keychains can be attached to it to unleash it's different powers.

    6. Again, I would like to think it depends on the power of the heart that the wielder has. I shall use an example: Ven said he was to be erased. His heart could have weakened over whatever happened in BBS, which led to the break of his keyblade. It also accounts for how Sora has still not broken his keyblade.

Personally i think that your theory on the keyblades pretty much explained it all.I've made a theory around the stuff you've said since you told me your theories.

I don't think Keyblades braking is an issue; they can instantly teleport to a master's hand, so whats the problem with the pieces teleporting back together?

See, I thought so too, but then I realized Ven's keyblade has no keychain. Perhaps this is the difference between keychained and unchained keyblades...

Still, I feel as thought What? and others' "keyblade powered by the heart idea" is plausible. After all, Sora was able to cut through buildings and such and not have the keyblade break, (although it wasnt frozen).

speakin of Ven's keyblade, has anyone noticed he holds it weird?
he holds it in his left hand, and with the teeth pointing DOWN, to cut the enemy. Everyone elses uses it the other with the teeth UP.
and he also holds it backwards

Possibly just another style of keyblade weilding. Nomura mirrors them after swords. Sora and Mickey weild their's like bas'tard swords. Riku weilds his like a katana. Roxas weilds his keyblade like slightly longer kodachis.

    1. Keychain Keyblades vs. Unchained Keyblades: Whats the difference?
I think Chained keyblades are more powerful, have more strength or abilities? I think they are more powerful then unchained keyblades, or the keychain shows what kind of keyblade it is.

    2. The relationship between Way to the Dawn, Soul Eater and the Dark Apprentices' keyblade.
Soul Eater is Riku's blade, right? He succumbed to the darkness, but for good reasons, to help his friends. So...it could be a keyblade made from darkness? I'm not exactly sure what connection it has with the other ones, but if its a keyblade made from darkness, then maybe the other's are as well.

    3. Do keyblades really require strong hearts to use them? We see Roxas and Xion with them, but they are "supposedly" nobodies
Roxas and Xion were special nobodies, or at least Roxas was. He was Sora's nobody, so he could use the keyblade, when Sora wasn't around. Maybe....he does have a heart, but its not the same as a normal person's heart? I mean, he and Namine were very different from the other Nobodies.........
    4. Does the keyblade give the wielder power or does the wielder already have power? For example, Sora is super strong, he can fly, hes super fast, hes pretty much superman...
I think the keyblade gives the wielder some abilities, but they have to have the capacity to use the abilities. Like, the keyblade couldn't give the abilities to a person who doesn't understand, or could never learn how to use the abilities.

    5. Why is the Kingdom Key a "starter" keyblade? All of the keys owned by Sora are basically the kingdom key with a different keychain...
Maybe the Kingdom key was the first keyblade...I mean, its simple, its easy to use, and it is called the "Kingdom Key".
    6. What happens if a keyblade breaks? Can they break?
If a keyblade could break, maybe the wielder has died, or something happened to the heart of the wielder. I know, I know, Sora lost his heart, and the Keyblade didn't break, but at the same time, he was also releasing Kairi's heart. So technically, he didn't completely lose his heart. I think....if the keyblade wielder, died, and lost their heart, then maybe the keyblade would break.....or if they lost the good, in them...all their humanity, and their compassion. Maybe then the keyblade would break, because all that the wielder was chosen for is lost.

I doubt the keyblade breaks when the master dies; the keyblade is flexible among weilders as long as they have a strong heart. I mean, I hope keyblades aren't emo, so chance are that it'll just find a new master instead of commiting suicide.

I don't really mind the way Ven Weilds his keyblade, I think that's a really cool way to weild a sword, or Keyblade.

Well, Xion and Roxas can use keyblades because their somebodies are keyblade users.

    ..Right?

Roxas can. That has been stated to be the truth. He inherited the ability from his somebody: Sora.
But nobody knows whose Nobody Xion is (except for theories, which are in fact THEORIES, not truth)
but Riku said in a trailer that her keyblade is fake.
So maybe she can't really use a keyblade

That's not quite right, I think. Naminé made him forget KH1 in COM.
But then, while Sora was asleep, she..Uh..Gave him back the memories ^^
But he doesn't remember anything from COM, like having met Naminé.
But when he woke up he remembered everything about KH1.
