    Because they are significant to the plot. Perhaps not in the way that Sora or Riku or Mickey are, but they have an undeniable purpose ("Without meeting up with Leon and Yuffie, Sora wouldn't have learned more about the Keyblade; without Aerith, they'd have no idea to search for the Ansem Reports; without Cid, their Gummi Ship wouldn't bring them past Deep Jungle."). They have a purpose, albeit small ones. But not every character needs to alter the very face of the universe in order to be "significant."
