The Sanctuary

"Okay...first, let's start simple. Name and age."
Rei watched him carefully, quietly sniffing the air. She thought she picked up the faint scent of fear coming from the man, but she said nothing.

 

"Leon, 19", Leon answered swiftly. By the time he answered he was ready for the next question. Though, he kept his line of sight out the window.

 

Rei watched him stare out the window. There was definitely something up with him. "Leon...huh. Alright. Cutting to the chase, why is your scent so different than all the others?"

 

"It is?", Leon asked, turning his head to change his view to Rei, "As in how is my scent different?". He wasn't sure what she meant, he knew it had nothing to do with how he got here as he just washed.

 

"Good good" the voice replied in an uninterested manner, that of a part time employee.

"We just need your address again. See we accidently deleted your home address so we need you to give it to us so we can send you your order."

 

"10287 Haven Street." She sighed, rubbing her forehead. Maybe those bills were getting to her after all. "Thank you for your service." she murmured before hanging up, and slumping against the wall, the phone creaking in her grasp.

 

Rea pulled her hand away from her nose and looked at it. Blood was all over the palm of her hand. She stowed away her flute in her coat pocket and broke into a dead run, back towards the small shack she called home. "Man, this hurts..." Rea groaned a little before entering the shack. She walked up to a desk and started searching the drawers.

 

An angel?
"No," Elevir responded, letting her hand fall back to her side."I'm just Gifted, like you are..."
She looked off to the side, her blonde hair partially blocking her vision. Toxyn, the seemingly tortured boy in front of her, brought back the thoughts from that week she had spent at the Orphanage. She closed her eyes tightly, and shook her head briefly in an attempt to dismiss the thoughts.

 

Seth walked down the streets of the town looking around with is hands in his pockets still surprised at how positive this town was. What a very nice town this is Seth thought to himself and sighed I wonder how the others are doing Seth thought to himself

 

What happens if you 'help' me he thought, putting emphasis on the word help for a reason. I have no reason to trust you. Thanks you you freaks, I'm where I am right now he continued. To him, he was disgusted by what he was, and he hated everything around him.
He slowly began to move, trying to stand up. His body was shaking, partially from pain, and partially from fear that she might still try something. Even if now he was acting a bit sharper towards her, it was only his thoughts. He wouldn't have the guts to speak even if he tried.
Just leave me alone. All people do is hurt me anyway he stated, taking little steps, as he began to try and walk towards the end of the ally. From the trembling legs and tiny steps though, he obviously wasn't looking as tough as he thought he was at the moment.

 

She felt like his words had shot her, like bullets.
'It's not like I'd asked for this, either,' she spoke, telepathically. 'I never asked for my parents to die.'

"Even if you can't read minds, you have to be sharp enough to know that you'll have to rely on someone eventually," she said, in a voice that was almost a whisper. "Especially with wounds like those. But if you don't want my help... then I can't force it on you."

Her wings flapped twice behind her, like she was anxious to get away from there. But still she waited.

 

Latching the order into the steel basket on the rear of his bicycle, the delivery boy got ready to go on his final run of the day. He let out a sharp yelp before shoving his fingers into his mouth. The hot sauce burning his flesh. "Damn!" he cussed. in a huff, the twenty-something swung his leg over the seat, pressed against the pedals, and went off to do the deed.

 

Toxyn stopped in his tracks, absorbing just what she was saying. He knew that she was right by now. By now, his mentality had taken charge over his emotions. He had been in pain. He had a giant scar on his back that could have been infected. And if she had been what of the directors servants, then since she was a reader, she probably would have taken the opportunity while he was afraid.
His breathing slightly sped up for a moment, trying to work up the courage to turn around. He closed his eyes for a moment, tried to calm down, and started taking deeper breaths, and started to turn around, keeping his eyes closed.
Try anything, and I'll kill you he thought, the words echoing in his head. Logic had over come fear, but he was still no better then a wounded animal. He was tense, and the trembling had subsided slightly.

 

Rea cleaned up the blood. Her nose had finally stopped bleeding. She stepped outside and leaned against the outer wall. Rea smiled as she felt the cold breeze on her face. "Ah, this feels great..." She muttered, hearing the distinct sound of a bike in the distance.

 

the delievery boy rang his little bell, like a disgruntled car owner caught in traffic. What a day this was. what a few weeks really. first this worthless job, next the worthless clientel, and now the burn. The self pity party would have continued if it wasn't for seeing a little girl on the side walk. Grinding to a halt, the deliveryman began to inspect the blood around her nose.

"You ok kid?"

 

Rea looked at the man. "Oh, i'm fine. Just broke my nose, running into a wall while playing my flute." She held out the long, silver instrument for him to see. She put it back in her pocket. "It hurts.... a lot, but i'll be fine. Thanks for the concern." She giggled. "So, what are you doing around here? I don't usually see too many people come this way."

 

"Oh me?" he ask quixotically. "Oh I'm just passing through on a delivery. I think we should get you to a hospital."

In a sort of rushed manner, the man snapped down the bike stand and walked towards the girl.

 

Toxyn wasn't in any of a shape at all to do anything to her, but Elevir wouldn't mention that. He didn't trust her as it was, and rubbing salt in the wound wouldn't help much at all. Especially when he really did need her help, whether he wanted to accept it or not.

"... We need to take care of those gashes on your back," Elevir spoke, "But I don't have the supplies. I could go get them, but you'd have to wait here for a bit."

 

Usually, Rea would run away... yet, she had no idea why she didn't do the same to this guy... she felt a strange, unfamiliar feeling, trust. Rea slowly walked towards him. "Um... okay..."

 

the man kicked the foot extentions on the back tire of his bike, gesturing to the girl.

"Can you stand? I have to make a delivery, but I can drop you off at the hospital on the way back."
