The Sanctuary

Rea picked the flute up off of the nightstand. She put it to her lips and started playing a sweet melody. She closed her eyes as she played, listening to the song. Her fingers moved gracefully over the holes. She stopped playing and smiled a little.

 

Clenching the table, Eva let the sounds fade away. She could see it all, the smell of blood and fear, and Larz...dying...shivering, she buried her head deeper. She didn't want to see that, but it was like her mind wouldn't let it go, his eye spinning faster and faster....her bones ached, and she looked up from the floor. I....shifted?

 

Ren looked at Eva and watched her clench the table Eva.........she just can't forget about what happened with Larz. It is haunting her mind Ren thought to himself. He could tell what kind of pain she was in by reading her mind. "you have to try and relax your mind" Ren said calmly

 

Elevir opened her eyes to total darkness. She couldn't tell where she was, but she wasn't in the room in that town she'd found. She was falling. And she couldn't move. She was bound by the same chains they'd restrained her with when she was brought to the Orphanage.

It only felt like seconds before something changed. She fell into something... it felt like water, but there was no splash, and no sound to indicate such. But now, she was free. Her wings spread out behind her, lighting up the water with a bright, goldish glow that made her eyes burn. She closed her eyes instinctively, and a flood of thoughts and images and sounds and screams rushed into her head. Memories... but not her own.

Her eyes opened slightly, and the images stopped. She was standing now, although still in the darkness. There was someone else standing a few yards from her, a little closer to reality.

Elevir recognized her. From where, though?

Wait.

"Eva?"

OOC:// If no one else can tell what just happened, Elevir connected with Eva's mind in a dream. So the real Eva can hear her and see her. But however you want Eva to take this is up to you lol.

 

She could only snarl in response, then started walking away, her paws padding the ground. Suddenly the room in front of her wavered, and she blinked, trying to remain on her feet.

Blinking, she looked around the room, trying to find out what had changed...wait...there was someone else. "Elevir!" she pulled out a cat grin, her eyes trying to convey her meaning. "How did you get here? But...." the others weren't reacting to her. "This is a dream....isn't it?"

 

Elevir had to think the second question through for a moment. She had gotten... wherever she was, it was still pitch black to her eyes... through a dream, right? But it felt different from a dream.

"Um..." she spoke, looking a bit off to the side while organizing her thoughts, "I think it is, in a sense... But it's more like two different dreams that are connected somehow."

Something else was weird about this, though.
"...I see you as a human, but you're really not right now... right?"
In her mind, Elevir could see that Eva was in some other form in her own perspective. But Elevir saw her as a girl....

 

Toxyn lifted his head up, after resting on the side of the street. Not too far away he saw a feline walking all by itself. To him it seemed as if it were staring at something, though he really didn't bother to put too much thought into it. He merely sat on the side like a bum, staring at the cat, thinking it was just some normal ordinary every day cat. While concentrating on the cat though, the near by light flickered slightly, his ability affecting it.

 

Eva shook her head. "I somehow shifted...its my panther form but....I cant change back..." she shook her head, her eyes focusing on a distant guy for a second, then away. He was kinda freaking her out, and she got dizzy.....stumbling slightly, she pushed herself into the shadows. "Where are you? Let me find you."

 

Eva didn't seem to be in much of a shape to go searching for her.
"You don't have to look for me," Elevir said, looking toward the older girl with a worried look on her face, "You seem like you need to rest, more than anything..."

Elevir's vision slipped out of focus for a second, and she felt dizzy like Eva.
"It's time we said goodbye, for now, Eva. This weird connection is taking its toll on both of us."

 

Eva shook her head, clinging on with whatever she had left. "Come on, tell me. At least I can pass the message on. I can't just abandon you at all." she whispered, feeling like she was physically holding onto something.

 

"You can't tell them," Elevir responded, in the same whisper, after taking some time to figure out who Eva could pass the message on to. "You can't tell them about any of this. It's not that I don't want to see you... I don't want them looking for me, Eva."

It was then she realized that Ren might find out regardless. He was a powerful Reader, even if he couldn't control the force of his Gift as well as she could.

Her focus wavered again, for longer.

 

Eva closed her cat eyes, stumbling. "Elevir.........I won't let them find you." She opened her eyes, struggling to stay cat amid this..she needed clothes after all...."Take care of yourself, okay?" She didn't know when she would find her, or even hear from her, after this.

 

"...Thank you," Elevir spoke, "and you too. Though... I think we're going to meet again really soon."

The older girl seemed to disappear into the darkness after a moment. The floor, or whatever Elevir had been standing on, seemed to break like silent glass, and she found herself falling once again. The only difference was that this time, she wasn't chained up. But her wings still wouldn't catch the air.

Then, there was nothing.

 

Eva prompty sat down, and shifted to her half human form, staying in the shadows as she leaned her head against the alley wall. She didn't want anyone to see her, like this. She sighed, then closed her eyes, resting for a second. Why did life have to be so hard?

 

Toxyn raised an eyebrow as he watched the cat morph into a half girl, half cat like being. "God, I really am lacking sleep..." he mumbled as he watched the girl. When he had escaped, he had never really encountered any others of his kind. He knew that there were others, but just never really got the chance to see them. "The hell..." the grumbled, as he kept on staring at the strange animal/person. As he did, the light next to him began to brighten due to his own excitement. After all, seeing a neko in the middle of the street wasn't exsactly normal...

 

Getting that creepy feeling, like someone was staring at her, Eva raised her head. What..it was that guy. He was still there? She stared right back, her green gold eyes giving him stare for stare. If he wanted to see a freak, then he would see one. She didn't want to be lying in the street naked anyway.

 

A gunshot rang through the alleyway, the sound crashing against the walls.

"Stay back!" a voice commanded, a voice used to giving orders. "Don't you dare go near her. Eva, are you alright?"

Framed in the light of the excited bulbs, Victor stood in the alleyway with his gun pointed in the are, smoke curling around it's barrel before dissapearing into nothingness.

"Eva, what happened back there?"

 

"Don't shoot him." she murmured, her voice half a purr. "I um...." how could she tell him that Elevir had contacted her? She had promised not to tell..."I just felt funny, seeing Ren again after all this time. And then this." she gestured, her fur ruffling slightly. "Are you okay?"

 

"Don't worry about me." he murmered. Quickly, Vitctor removed his overcoat and wrapped it around Eva tight. She might catch a cold without proper clothing. While his primary attention was on her, he never let his gun drop. The director made sure that his gun was pointed straight at the stranger's chest. Maybe he was being paranoid again, but now wasn't the time for trust. Family first, ask questions later.

 

She smiled a little, nodding to show she had the coat held around her. That way if she lost control on this form, she wouldn't be too cold. "I don't think he means any harm, Victor." she murmured, holding the coat tighter. "I think he's okay."
