You know when at the begining of the games you pick ether the sword, the sheild or the staff what other than a little strenth, defence or magic what diffrences do you get by picking them

From what I have noticed, nothing.

Take the sword, you get +1 strength
Take the shield, you get +1 defence
Take the staff, you get +1 magic

you get the Keyblade regardless of what you choose this time though. That wasn't the case in the first game. And you don't have to sacrifice an ability this time. Those are about the only differences.

They also affect the skills you get when you level up
Eg. You get the skills Once More and Second Chanced for Sora sooner if you pick the shield then if you pick the sword.

and with staff you get 3 MP apposed to 2 if you pick shield or sword, and you get scan really early which helps if you level up on destiny islands if you pick shield, and for sword i think its combo plus at first ability wait... i was thinking KH1.... for KH2 it just determines the abilities and when you learn them, they all get the same abilities eventually, but you get them in a different order based on that

When you're getting into a fight with Setzer, there's one with a plain bat, one with a handguard and one with a star at the end.

The bat symbolises attack, and gives you +1 Attack.

The Handguard symbolises defence, and gives you +1 Defence

The Star symbolises magic, and gives you +1 Magic.

Later, when you choose the Staff, Sword or Shield, you can recieve different "powers"

    These are:
    • The Power of the Warrior (Sword
    • The Power of the Defender (Or something like that) (Shield)
    • The Power of the Mage (Staff)

So, the Power of the Warrior will give you abilities based on attack (I'm not sure which abilities)

The Power of the Defender gives you abilities based on Defence (Such as Second Chance and Once More earlier in the game [Level wise])

The Power of the Mage gives you abilities based on Magic (E.G. MP Rage or Blizzard Boost, not entirely sure)

Of course, you eventually get all abilites in the end. It's just a matter on which ones you want first.
