In check of what?

 

In check in the same way that a king in a game of chess is in check when he's about to be captured, forcing him to change his position.

In this case, keeping you in check mean making sure you don't rise above acceptable levels of Amauriness, which you clearly have.

 

I don't get it. I didn't know such a thing existed.
