"Pay up, child. In five hundred years no one has ever left a debt to me unpaid."

    "
I-I lost the thing you wanted me to bring." The artifact which the fairy had instructed him to steal for her was a far more delicate piece than he had anticipated. It broke under his clumsy grip. The boy's large amber eyes stared up at the woman who sneered at him.

    "
This was a task so simple an ape could have done it. I should have known better than to allow a stupid mutt to-" The entrance door creaked loudly as a man in a long blue coat walked in, face hidden in the shadows. Rhett was glad for the distraction and attempted to make a run for it only to be halted by an invisible force. Beginning to choke, he gripped his neck in an attempt to struggle but to no avail. "I'll have to find a more creative use for you then." The elder fairy paid no attention to the man who walked in. Evidently, those who did deals with her were used to this kind of behavior by now.

    "
    P-please!" Rhett begged.

    "
That will be enough." Rhett heard the snap of fingers. An instant later, the invisible grip on his throat was gone and now the fairy was making the same motions he had done just seconds earlier to free herself from an overwhelming force, except this time Rhett could see what throttled her. A black figure of the same size of the man who walked in. It was not human nor Downworlder. "The boy will be cleared of his debt to you-"

    "
Yes! Yes!" The fairy cried, struggling to get her words out.

    "
I am not finished." The woman's struggling grew more erratic. "What of your family's loyalty?" The fairy kept her mouth shut, refusing to give the man his answer. Rhett was terrified the man would set his sights on him and so remained still, petrified. "Pity. I will have to take back what is mine then." From the man's sleeve slipped out a hatchet, blade made of iron and the edge coated in silver.

    "
I yield!" She spat out and immediately she was dropped.

    "
Good day to you." The man started towards the door and cast a cold glance Rhett's way, black eyes staring at the boy. "Stay out of trouble. I won't always have your back."

Rhett growled in return after having been thrown off. He ignored the coming of Keller's pack, knowing that any distraction would prove fatal to him. His next move would have been to take a bite out of Keller's legs but before he had the chance, the alpha made that same move on him. Rhett reared up, standing on his hind legs, and used his forepaws to grip onto the larger wolf once more. He hated to admit it but Keller was every bit as skilled as Rhett had anticipated, the alpha making several of the same moves he himself would have done.

Once more, Rhett bit at the alpha more cautious to keep himself out of the wolf's jaws than to make a quick(and risky) attempt at a lethal blow. Rhett struggled to get his jaws on the alpha's back as he struggled to sink his claws into the wounds he had already made on Keller. If he could slow the alpha down just maybe he would have a chance to kill him. Trying to fight based on sheer strength, Rhett knew he would lose, and as such used more effort to keep out of biting reach.

Cin preferred to stand, finding it easy to maintain his balance on the train as it sped along towards their destination. A simple glamour was placed over his blade whenever there was not one on himself to keep from arousing any suspicion. The ride was fairly short for one who had lived as long as he did. The journey may not have made him impatient but the thought of Masque still wandering free gave him reason to grow annoyed. How was it that such an evil man was allowed to roam free all these years? Why had the nephilim not stepped in sooner? No matter. What was done was done and now all that was required of him was his assistance to bring in the killer warlock.

    ~

Ash shook his head slowly. "Just you is all that I need." He stated after a moment of silence passed when the fairy girl offered her apology. "Thank you for reminding me of that pain." The warlock lowered his voice, turning towards Morrigan and taking a step towards her. "I intend to set things right one day. Not for myself as, you have said, it is already centuries too late but for the others who have yet to face the same kind of tribulations I was put through. This world is unbalanced, unjust, sick. I would be a fool to think I could ever change all of that but perhaps there are ways to make everything just a little bit better for future generations."

Taking in a deep breath Ash began to head towards the bedroom door. "
When you are stronger, it would do you some good to become a more capable fighter. For now, I expect you to join me for a meal. No doubt exerting yourself has caused some strain on your body." Even with every word she had spat at him just moments earlier Ash did not allow it to change anything. The fairy's shift in attitude towards him was promising and, if she was to be trusted as he hoped, he would become much more open with her.

Hendrick still didn't trust Paragon farther than he could throw him. Especially given the similarities in speech and even saying he had been watching. Hendrick realised he had the little prick that had been saying everyone would be judged. Who the **** did he think he was going to judge everyone, what jurisdiction did he think he had? Oh well, he wouldn't say a thing about it. His job to care, good one. "The day that the fairies decided it was funny to dick over downworlder and Nephilim alike, so practicly since their emergence. So yes it is hard to think you're just here to help, even if you can't tell a lie." Hendrick remarked, fairies couldn't lie, but they were notorious for twisting this truth so it wasn't a lie, but it wasn't the full truth either. That's why they were his least favourite race to deal with, always scheming and ready to dick someone over. Demons were simple, even Greater Demons, they were meant to be destroyed without a question. After all it's all they did. Werewolves and Vampires weren't too bad to deal with either. A werewolf was being attacked by Grayson? He silently prayed it wasn't Rhett, eventhough he had only just met the wolf the night before their search had left an impression on him, lad had potential. Roxanne wanted to follow and Hendrick agreed wholeheartedly following his more energetic collegue, going after Brianne.

Riding on a train was an interesting change of pace for Sien, who did most of his transportation either via the rooftops or simply avoid large crowds of people. Neither option were really available for him given the limited space on the train, which fortunately wasn't an easy for them this time. Even more fortunate was Alarick's casting of a rune of glamour on them. It somewhat made things more bearable for the young warlock.

Elsewhere another figure was making his way through the streets. According to an trusted informant of his, things had started to get interesting outside within the city, what with the recent killings among other things. This was more than enough reason for the vampire known as Valister Cron to go out and have a look at things for himself. This decision shouldn't lead to disappointment, that much as for certain.

Clever. Grayson howled as he used gravity to fall onto his back, attempting to crush the werewolf that had previously tried to get a grip on his back. They were similar in weight and height, but the force of a full grown werewolf would make even a Nephilim pause. Or break a few ribs. Grayson struggled to his feet, each movement becoming harder then the next. Desperation mingled with his anger, making him a far more dangerous foe.

Things didn't look good for either wolf at this point, but
Rhett only had to lose his life. Grayson had much much more that had been gambled in this fight. He charged one last time, feigning a bite at Rhett's forelegs before using his shoulder to try to knock the wolf over. Afterwards he rolled to his feet and clamped down on Rhett's fur, shaking him back and forth. He had been aiming for the neck, but at this point the world was a messy blur of flying fur and flashes of blood, coupled with the burning pains growing in his chest.

He didn't have much more time before the silver would force a painful Change back to his human form.

Morrigan rested her chin on her knees as Ash walked out, eyes staring ahead. "How are you any different from my parents?" She muttered, shutting her eyes for a moment as their images popped up in her memory. "You want fire, you instigate me. You want a breakfast companion, you order me. What's next, a bed warmer?" She waited until he was out of the room before flopping back onto the bed, her hair spread in a halo behind her as she stared at the ceiling. "I wish I knew what to do." The words barely had any tone as they left, no more then whispers uttered into the air. Almost a prayer, if she had the weakness to believe in a higher power.

Sitting up, she waited until the light dizzy spell past before heading towards the bathroom. She had no need of it, but the sudden urge to be near running water was too overwhelming to resist. Whenever she had problems thinking in the past, she would run to the nearest river or stream. Seeing as that wasn't an option here, the faucet would have to do.

Morrigan turned the water on full force and pulled up the stopper, so that a pool would form. It only really worked if the water was hitting other liquid. She didn't understand why. She closed her eyes as she listened to the sound, clearing her mind of everything except for the problem, and focusing on it. What do I do?
Well, she could try to run. She would make it a few hours before her need for the poisonous antidote that Ash provided would force her to inevitably collapse. If he didn't simply track her with his shadow first. So that left staying. She could either stay a captive, and do as he ordered, let him continue to control her, or she could break free. The first option was safer, easier, but the second called to her. She had slowly gained freedoms over the centuries, but she had never truly been free. Maybe now was her chance. After he cured her, she could disappear; to China, or Europe. She could be anyone there, as long as she could throw up a glamour.

Well, it seemed her choice was an easy one. Bide your time, and then slip free. No marriage, no contract. She smiled at her reflection in the mirror before reaching into the pool of water, creating a small cup with her hand in order to splash the cool liquid on her face. Her head started to buzz, but she ignored it, reaching for one of the hand towels, before shutting the faucet off. As she dried her face, Morrigan wondered what Rhett was doing. The werewolf had been kind to her, if a little standoffish, and she wouldn't mind having a friend who wasn't going to drive her to commit murder. She glanced down at the pool, and found she couldn't tear her eyes away.

The buzzing grew louder, unable to be ignored as her face drew nearer and nearer to the surface of the water. Yellow eyes, the same as her dream stared at her, the giant wolf snarling as it leaped towards her. She blinked and the image zoomed back, showing the wolf jumping on a man...She gasped, unable to move as she watched
Rhett throw the wolf off, yelling something before Changing. As the two collided, she tried to look away, heart in her mouth. What fresh hell was this? Rhett was struggling when the two were separated, and circled each other. As the large wolf jumped back towards Rhett, Morrigan screamed, certain that it would be death for the kind man. Her hand slipped on the basin, and she stumbled back as the hold was released on her. She pressed her hands to her mouth, staring at the water that covered the sink, the water now crystal clear. By the gods and angels.

Then she tore out of the room, searching for
Ash. If what she had seen was true, then Rhett was in terrible danger.

He arrived at school and for the fist time in a long time he was left alone. The was a surprise, but he was sure that this would not last long. He was sure that when classes started that someone would have some sort of problem with him. First period nothing really happened nothing really ever happened in English for the most part. Then second period came and went. Again nothing and no one bothering him. It was only Math class so he did not think much of it. Third period came and went too and he was getting his hopes up Science was by far the time when people tried something with him, but this time there was nothing. Next he had plans to go home for lunch and have lunch with his mom. Lunch always had to be quick, but he enjoyed it all the same. He stared making his way towards the doors to head home when he was stopped, by Jon, anyone but Jon, Why him? Why now? 'Where do you think you are going pipsqueak?' "I did not know you cared so much about where I was going, I need to put that on my friendship wall." 'You..' Jon then took a swing at him and he quickly moved out of the way, the end result ended up having Jon hit a locker. 'I am going to kill you.' "You can try", he said before he headed out of the school and on his way home for lunch.

She awoke and walked around her house look at what time it was. The time and the look outside did not quite match up, but she was not going to question it. Stepping onto the dark street on the city it was time to see what the world was up to. After some time she was met with a face she knew all to well. "What do you want now?" 'There been another killing' "So?" 'Maybe you should go check it out' "Fine only so it will keep you off my back." She left the man behind heading off for some crazy adventure. More killing, she was sure more then one person was involved in this but, what you going to do? What ever the case was it was time for action.

It seemed that Hendrick also had enough talking and decided to follow. Good, Roxanne didn't think she could stand just hanging around and waiting for him to be ready. Roxanne wanted to run ahead and catch up to Brianne quickly but she remembered Hendrick's injuries and wouldn't dare leave him behind. She wouldn't let him get hurt more and she wouldn't let him be alone with that creep. "Come on old man. Lets go!" Roxanne said as she ran back to Hendrick, slinging his arm over her shoulder like before. She didn't know if he wanted or needed the help, but if it would speed the old man up, then he was going to take her help whether he liked it or not.

Blood. Rhett no longer knew if it was his or that of his foe as they tore into each other in attempts to see who would die first. It hurt. He knew it would also hurt the other wolf and that would be more than worth it to him. As Keller bit into him Rhett returned the favor. Had he still been in his human form the taste and feel of bloody clumps of fur in his mouth would have made him sick but now it did nothing to remind him to bite harder. Fur and blood was not enough. Flesh needed to be ripped from the alpha's bones.

    1754

Ash had awoken finding himself under the shade of lush greenery, the sounds of waves gently pushing their way onto a shoreline filling the air. He made an effort to sit up, wincing in pain but doing so anyway, and looked around. Somehow he had found himself washed up onto a tropical island but, curiously, he was too far from the shore to have made it to the shade of the trees with nothing but the current dragging his body. Ash looked down finding that under his torn uniform were makeshift bandages applied to the worst of his wounds he had suffered. The splinters in his leg had too been removed and it had been wrapped as well. Questions that came to mind were soon answered when a voice called out.

"Captain! You're awake!" Turning his head Ash viewed his lieutenant, who had survived the attack, coming his way.

    "How-"

"Lifeboat. As soon as the second British ship showed up I knew we would be needing one to escape. There were no other survivors besides us. You made sure of that, for better or worse."

"Why save my life? Our crew died because of my actions."

"Because I know what you are. I knew what you were hunting. I was obligated to help you." The lieutenant's French accent faded away to another from a land Ash knew very well.

"Ah...another Scot. Aye...and a Downworlder to boot. What vendetta could you have possibly had against a warlock and a nephilim?"

"If you're well enough to stand, we can discuss this as we walk."

Morrigan had taken her time coming downstairs and just as Ash was about to go back for her to make sure she had not passed out once more a scream came from upstairs. Thinking her to be in trouble, Ash left his study in a hurry only to nearly run into the girl with a look of terror on her face. She was quick to tell him the details of what she had seen in the water.

At the mention of Rhett being in trouble, Ash started towards the door, allowing the fairy to describe his location to him. It was a vague and imprecise description of Rhett's surroundings but it was all he needed to make a judgment on where to head. "
Please. Stay out of this now. You're not in any condition to fight if there's any trouble." He had not the time to argue with her and left whether she decided to follow him or not. It had been a long time since he had needed to sprint with such speed but even so the warlock was far from rusty. In his mind's eye was the clear image of what Morrigan had told him.

Rhett had to be alive. Ash had not trained the wolf for five years and saved his life twice before just to lose him so suddenly and so violently. If there were any other wolves by the time he arrived, there would be death. Knowing time to be fleeting, Ash picked up his pace even further.

Paragon flew above the others and headed towards the old police station. Despite the fact he could easily fly faster than them, he slowed down so he would not go past "Remember, Grayson is the priority target, the others have just been indoctrinated and do not deserve to die. But Grayson must be captured or killed at all costs. We shouldn't need to worry about the rest of the pack after that, kill the head and the body will die" he told the nephilim. He flew slightly ahead to survey the situation, then returned to give a quick report to the shadow hunters "There's a fight going on the courtyard, no definitive winner so far. I can carry one of you directly into the courtyard, it seems there are wolves guarding the other entrances. Haste is important, as soon as Grayson realises he's outmatched he'll try to get his pack in to help, we must defeat him before they have a chance to intervene"

They finally traced the footprints to an apartment building, quite low quality but what was he expecting? "Right. Well I don't think we should just barge in there. Masque is dangerous and obviously should be treated as such" he looked at the others with a hesitant smile "Call me stupid, but I think there's a chance he can be redeemed"

Valister continued on his trek through the city, so far not finding anything of particular interest. It wasn't often that his sources got information wrong about what was going on in the city, especially when it came to more recent events. Valister choose to continue trusting his informants and continued looking around the area. Doing so, he'd ended up walking by an old police station.

That was when something hit his nose. Not literally hitting it for it wasn't a physical object that had hit him. It was a fragrance, fresh blood to be exact. The fragrance had cause the vampire to stop moving in his tracks and figure out where the smell was coming from. A few sniffs of the air later and it became clear that the it was coming from within the police station he'd ended up next to, but as for where. That much he hadn't figured out quite yet.

Right as he was about to figure out just were exactly the smell was coming from, something else had caught his attention. This time in the form of a wolf passing by. Normally he wouldn't think twice about this, well maybe he would've thought about it given that the wolf is running through the city, but this case was different. It looked like the wolf had someplace it was trying to get to. Before it could get too far away, Valister stopped it by grabbing on to it's tail. "Now then, why don't you tell me where it is you are going."

More killing, more blood. What has the world come to? She was not sure where to began? Oh go find out more about the killing in the city. It should be fun and give you something to do. Her informant was starting to get on her nerves. She was not sure why she kept the man around. It might be something to do with that he always seemed to know much more then he should. Sure she could kill the man but, what fun would that be? If she killed him sure was sure word would get around that she did so. So for now it was best to just best to let the man live and hope that he died somehow. After walking the streets of the town for what seemed to be forever she was going to have to have a word with her informant. That was when it hit her, where would someone have information on killings. A police station of course. She was not sure why she did not think of it before. She continued to walk in town until knowing where a police station would be. All she had to do was hope that the people at the station were out eating donuts or something. She continued to walk stopping at a old looking build which caught her eyes. Getting a closer look at the building there seemed to be a police logo on the building. Well this was better then she hoped it would be. Now information would be easier then she would have ever thought. Lessoning closely she could hear something going on around the corner. She stepped around and spotted a man holding on a wolf's tail, well that was something that you did not see everyday. She stood there ready for what might come. Looking at the man closely. Alarick glanced at Nick, frowning slightly. "Do you have psychic powers you have yet to bless us with?" He asked, turning back to look at the entrance. "Our orders are to apprehend Masque. Seeing as he has murdered several Downworlders, I will withhold my judgement on whether or not he deserves mercy. For now, we simply need to capture him and get him back to the Institute."

Alarick stepped inside the apartment building, scanning the area quickly. "
Cin, take the stairs. Sien, the watch the back door. Nick, with me." He stalked forward, punching a button on the elevator. As the doors opened, he stepped inside, waiting for the younger Shadowhunter to follow before letting the doors shut, and pushing the button for the next floor. The only intel they had been able to gather was that Masque didn't live on the ground level. We'll just have to go floor by floor. He thought with a sigh, hand on his stele just in case their luck prevailed. "Nick, stay in the elevator. If you see him, do not engage by yourself." He glanced at the man to make sure heard before starting forward.

The halls were quiet, but not quiet enough. Alarick pressed his ear to the first door; nothing. He debated breaking in, but then pulled out his stele and carved the rune for Sight into the wood. The door vanished, giving him a vision of what was inside. Nothing. He went on to the next, and the next.

Finally, as he carved the rune into the wood on the door at the furthest end of the hall, he saw what he wanted. The
warlock. Jerking his head silently, Alarick motioned for Nick to come over to him. They would need to work together to take this one down. Hopefully Cin and Sien were close by, working their way up their respective entrances. The more the merrier, after all.

Brianne vaulted over a fence, feeling her runes glow, warming her skin as she used their power. She glanced up at Paragon, flying above them, the frown on her face identical to the one her twin wore half a city away. "Take me, please." The mannerism added as an afterthought. She jumped onto a crate, using the force of her speed to ricochet off the wall and reached out, grabbing Paragon's hands with her own. It wasn't particularly graceful, but it was quicker then stopping and losing momentum. "Hendrick, Roxanne! Keep your backs to each other when you get inside, and try to catch up as quick as you can!" She called back, her mind fuzzy with worry for a moment as she considered she was leaving them behind. But I have to save this life. I have to make up for the one I failed.

With that thought, she nodded to herself and held tightly to
Paragon, hoping by the Angel that he wouldn't drop her.

Stay behind? Less likely. Ash couldn't have it both ways. Either he liked her spirit, or he was telling her what to do. And Morrigan was sick of being told what to do. She darted behind him, quickly losing the warlock as he moved faster then she was able. She paused, and reached into the air. A small bluejay settled onto her fingers, soft chirps emitting from its chest. She stroked it gently, whispering to it before letting it fly free again.

The blue jay focused in on its target, the
warlock darting between people, carts and cars. She set off after the bird, confident in the creature's abilities to keep up with Ash, even if she could not. Her mind turned to Ash's reaction. He seemed to actually care for the werewolf. She hoped for Rhett's sake, and her own, the werewolf would be okay. She had a feeling she didn't want to see a grief ridden Ash.

Grayson felt his body quivering underneath the weight of the pain and depletion of strength. He was losing blood, Rhett was losing blood. With a shake of his massive head, he tossed the werewolf into the nearest wall and backed up, jaws dripping with blood stained saliva. He regarded the other werewolf with a feeling as close to respect as he could get. Rhett was the first real challenge he had in years, and the guy had a set of balls on him that would have made Grayson's father proud.

But the wolf couldn't show mercy, not even to someone as inspiring as the
underdog. Grayson limped away, Changing as he walked. He grabbed the spare clothes that his beta offered and began to dress, not even looking back at Rhett. "He's all yours." He muttered, leaning a little on his beta as the werewolf helped him walk away. His pack might as well have some fun, it would be selfish to share. Grayson would never admit that he had nearly lost to Rhett, and probably would have if he had tried once more to take down the werewolf. I need to get stronger. There's only one way I know of doing so.

Several other werewolves grinned and Changed, circling Rhett as they growled and snarled.

Cin's eyes flashed towards the young nephilim, Nick, believing that the boy should not have come along on such a mission. He reserved his words of judgment on Nick and did as Alarick requested, heading towards the stairs with his blade still drawn. The apartment building, rundown as it was, held little room in its tight corners for a full-length sword to be swung about. Cin sheathed his blade, knowing it to be more of a hindrance than of use to him, and stopped at the second floor.

The knight looked up to the next flights of stairs seeing and hearing nothing above him. He went up, floor by floor, making sure each hallway was empty without ever taking more than a step away from the stairs. Checking any more thoroughly would mean leaving the stairway unwatched. The nephilim would check each room if need be. Cin walked back down the stairs, checking the halls once more on his way down, only to stop at the second floor to watch
Alarick peering closely at a door. This was it.

    ~

The Change back into his human self was excruciating. Keller had backed down and just for an instant, he believed himself to be the victor. The growling of Keller's pack told him otherwise. Rhett clutched his bloodied chest only to find that his arm--both arms actually, were in a worst state. His vision blurred, his own blood staining his sight with red, as he struggled to even sit up. He could just make out Keller leaving, limping. "Come back and finish the job yourself you coward!" Rhett's voice was weak and hoarse but he knew the alpha could hear him just as he left his sight. Keller was gone now leaving only his pack to finish him off.

Rhett knew he had no strength to escape them. Even if he could stand, he knew he would never get far. "
Choke on my bones, you...you..." The last of his strength began to fade. "Der Scheisskerl..." The wolves that surrounded him began to close in.

    ~

Ash could hear the footsteps of the fairy behind him but he did not have time to waste on scolding her or making the effort to force her to stay behind. Her footsteps grew fainter and fainter as he charged ahead, gaining speed with every step. An abandoned police building was not far off. The scenery looked just as Morrigan described to him. Taking a sharp turn, Ash could already hear the growls of a pack of wolves. For this he was thankful as it gave him a better fix on Rhett...and it told him that they had not begun feasting just yet.

The hatchet he owned slipped out of his sleeve and into his grip, the silver of the edge glinting faintly in the light. As he rounded another corner he could see a pack of wolves ready to cannibalize a man who was nearly bloodied and beaten beyond recognition.
Rhett. Ash made the first move he could to get their attention and sent his shadow towards the group without any hesitation or thought of what kind of retaliation they would have brought. He had faced worse odds. A wolf, not large enough to have been the beta, was thrown into a wall with tremendous force. The sound of bone breaking was clear. "Heel!" Ash shouted at the pack as if speaking to a dog who had misbehaved.

Hendrick hurried along as fast as his wounds allowed him, still making a decent speed, but accordng to Roxanne who was already coming to help him along, slinging an arm around his shoulder. It was actually impairing his movement and slowing him down more than it was actually helping him, but she seemed to be determined to help him. "Roxi, you're not exactly helping, I know you mean well, but I need to be able to freely move." He said, Paragon thought it necessary to remind them of their mission. Capturing Grayson that's a good one. This bloke clearly never tried to wrestle a werewolf into submission. This was going to be a hit no attempts at capture, atleast not if it was on him.

Paragon then did a reconnaisance run and well he guessed that was kind of convenient. Normally they'd run into a situation and only then asses it and act. If they could asess it before it might give them an edge, then again this was the way things worked and he didn't mind it. When Paragon said he could take one of them to the Courtyard directly, he wanted to bring up the fact that he carried a bow as the only person having a ranged weapon, drop him on the roof and he could rain hell on the Wolf, but Brianne already took the lead and followed up on the offer. This was going to be a lot more difficult for him than he imagined, but there wasn't any going back now. He snorted at what Brianne had told Paragon. A tad of an awkward phrasing. And she told them to keep their backs to each other when inside.

Well he didn't actually intend to get in close, nice and cozy with the furballs, hence why he brought his bow, but it seemed that any form of tactical insight had gone out the window by now, overruled by impulsive emotional reactions. He looked at
Roxanne as he unslung his bow and put an arrow to the string. "Alright let's get going, I am sorry I got to ask you this but if you go up front I'll cover you. Brianne in her impulsiveness forgot I am not in the best fighting condition and intended to fight from range, but alas. I'll back you up and join the melee if necessary, I just don't feel like dancing with a wolf tonight, if you don't mind." Hendrick said not really being enthousiastic.

Above them. He just had to be a damn show off and fly above them. Who did this guy think he was. AND he dared to give them orders. Roxanne really didn't like this man and wished that Brianne had never agreed to let him help, but what could she do about it? In the end it was Brianne's choice, and Roxanne couldn't argue, not when she was already in trouble. Damn Roxanne hated being in trouble.

Paragon then offered to fly one of them into the base, and leave the other two. So pretty much he wanted to fly someone into their death possibly because who knew how many werewolves were inside. The worst part of this was that Brianne volunteered to do it. Was she nuts, Roxanne didn't want to find her way in there only to find an injured or dead Brianne. They already had one person injured, they did not need another. But orders were orders and Roxanne had to follow.

Next thing that came up was the fact that Roxanne trying to help
Hendrick wasn't really helping at all but hindering his movement. Roxanne let go of him and took a step away. "Sorry." She mumbled under her breath as she kept moving forward. She hated making mistakes, but more than that she hated to face the mistakes she made, have them pointed out to her. So she did her best to move past without thinking about it too much.

Hendrick seemed reluctant when he suggested the plan, as if he didn't like it but it was all that he could offer. Though what he was saying was true, originally he was going to stay out of the fight, or at least away and help when needed from a range, now with Brianne's instructions he was to be right there with her. "Don't worry old man! When I told you to come with us I said I would protect you. You didn't think I forgot, did you? I will keep you safe from those big bad wolves. It will be fine!" Roxanne assured him as she started heading towards the entrance, hoping she could catch them up to Brianne soon.

Grayson let Rhett's words slide off him like water off a duck's back. At least, he tried. It did sting, that he couldn't finish the goddamupstart, but, as his father used to say, self preservation first, honor later. Can always trick people into thinking you have honor, but you can't trick death. His thoughts were interrupted by his sensitive ears picking up the sound of bones crunching. His pack wouldn't do that. They would tear flesh, rend muscle.

He half turned, ears figuratively pricked as his beta stood by his side. Both wolves listened, and heard it; the sound of fighting. "I do believe it's best we leave this place." His beta suggested, too quietly to be heard by any ears other then Grayson's. "You are in no shape to fight." The undercurrent of words was there, but neither of them said it, for the caution of being overheard by the wrong ears. The pack is expendable, but you are not.

"Let's go then. I grow tired of the stink of this place anyway." He leaned heavily on his beta out of sight of the pack. Two more wolves flocked to him, helping to take the weight off his weakened legs as they quickly exited the abandoned police station. Only after they were gaining distance did Grayson realize they left the human boy in the basement. He glanced sidelong at his beta, who smiled, the tips of his incisors peeking out from underneath his lip. Ah, good. They didn't need any witnesses spouting out nonsense about their hunting techniques. It ruined the fun. And Grayson was planning on having plenty more of it, once he healed.

The bird rested on Morrigan's shoulder as she darted through the alleyway towards the abandoned building. She heard Ash's voice, harsh against the snarls and growls that followed. "Go, little one." She commanded to the bird as she reached for her sword instinctively, swearing when she realized it wasn't attached to her hip. She really needed to fix that.

Clenching her hands, she looked around, mind working quickly as the level of growling increased, raising the hairs along her arms. Chirping drew her attention to a trashcan, where the blue bird perched. She stroked its head gently before peering in cautiously. A glint of metal caught her eye, and she reached in carefully, pulling out what at one point would have been a metal pole of some sort. Force had caused the metal to snap, creating a sharpened spear. It was rustic, but she gently thanked the bird before reminding it to flee the carnage that was about to occur.

Ash was already battling the werewolves with his shadow, drawing their attention away from Rhett, obviously the weaker threat. She felt bile rise in her throat at his appearance, but kept it down as she slipped around the edge of the battle to stand next to him. "Rhett, do you remember me?" She asked cautiously, hands reaching forward, anxious to help. Her fingers fluttered uselessly just above the torn skin and ligaments as her eyes widened. There was so much damage. How could someone recover from this?

    "
Rhett, it's Morrigan. Let's go, before-" She whipped around, instinct driving her as she shoved the spear through the throat of one of the wolves. It stared into her horrified eyes before choking. She tried to wrench the spear out as the werewolf made a gurgling noise, but her arms shook too hard. "Fucking Angel's tits." She swore as the wolf stumbled back, yanking her only weapon from her hands. Well, not her only weapon. Hello unconsciousness, my old friend. She whispered the words of magic, calling the vines from the building. They began to weave towards her, braiding against each other to form a barrier. She waited with baited breath, hoping the magic would be enough to keep the wolves from reaching her or Rhett as she gently motioned for him to back up. "Let's just....rest here." She suggested, pointing towards a corner of the wall, her hands shaking as the magic began to take its toll.

"Just keep quiet, and maybe they-" She paused, the hair on the back of her neck rising. A wolf with amber eyes licked its lips, saliva dripping from its teeth as it approached her. "No." She said firmly, standing in front of
Rhett with her arms at her sides, hands clenched. "I won't let you." Her stomach roiled as her mind tried to grapple with the notion that she had just taken her first life, and was about to take another. Or attempt, anyway.

Nick nodded at his allies, and tried the door handle. It was not locked. They entered

Masque was continuing his painting. He'd taken off the mask earlier, it was hard to paint with. Suddenly there was movement at the door. Who? He looked over with horror as Nephilim began to enter.
"NO!" He hissed and tried to cover his face with his hands "DON'T LOOK AT ME!" he shrieked shrilly, as he backed away to a corner of the room. Collapsing to his feet, tears began to fall down his face. How had he been so careless? How had he let himself be captured? Maybe he wanted to be captured, somehow. Nevertheless punishment must be delivered. A knife gleamed on the table, which he scrabbled to pick up, and pressed the blade against his skin, preparing for the incision...

Paragon, bearing Brianne in his arms, flew above the walls. Hacking into the lights of the station, he switched them on and created a spotlight on the wolf attacking Morrigan. With a flourish, he landed on the werewolf and knocked it to the ground. "Worry not. I'm here" A swift kick to the werewolf's head and it was unconscious. "Grayson's gone" he muttered "Brianne, you and the nephilim are able to defeat the pack, I'm sure. I'm going to try and track down Grayson. Sorry for leaving you so soon" With a bow to the fellow fairy and the wolf who was on their side, he fluttered into the sky. The good thing about the city was the sheer amount of cameras. After flcking through various CCTV cameras, he found what he was looking for. The pack leader leaving the station, with several other werewolves. He beelined towards where they were and flew above the group, out of their reach. "Grayson Keller" he stated, one of his guns pointed at the alpha's forehead "This won't be my first assassination"

Cin stepped in behind Nick and Alarick, his head tilting upon seeing Masque screaming and crying at the corner. He could not help but smirk. "How pathetic." Cin sneered at the warlock taking a step closer. A knife flashed in the warlock's hand as he prepared to, what it seemed like, cut himself. "Will you not even defend yourself?" The knight looked Alarick's way. "It seems without the shadows and a helpless victim at his mercy this one is no more that a worm. I shall enjoy watching make this one squirm for all the death he has wrought."

    ~

A newcomer arrived, Ash had paid little attention except for the fact that he had brought the shadowhunter Brianne along with him. He would have to question her about their interactions later. Several werewolves by then had already found themselves forced into the Change by the gashes left in them by Ash's hatchet. The whimpering sounds of what was once a furious pack reduced to that of pups was a welcome change. Still, many remained still determined to overcome himself and Morrigan, along with Brianne, with sheer numbers.

Slaughtering the pack was not an option he wanted to take but with every glance he took in Rhett's direction the thought became more and more appealing to him. Ash stepped back. Even with the three of them it would still take too long for them to subdue the wolves and patch Rhett up...who was still bleeding out. If more help did not arrive soon, Ash feared for what would become of his friend.

And then the cavalry arrived. How Ash could have known of Rhett's location, he did not know, but the warlock did not seem shaken at all by the threat of facing so many wolves. "No need to make me look bad..." Of course, Rhett had already known the difference in their skill. Sure, he had been a few scraps of his own over the years and had another five years of proper training under Ash, but the warlock had been through centuries of bloodshed. Still, a bit of pride was hurt knowing that he would have been dead if not for someone else saving his ass. He wanted to take out Keller. Maybe it was the loss of blood talking, or maybe it was wolf instinct, but at that moment all he wanted was a rematch with the alpha...and to live long enough to get one.

    Not long after Ash arrived
Morrigan was by his side. She spoke to him, asking if he remembered her. He nodded weakly in response, saving his breath. She did not owe him anything, it was Ash who had saved her life, but for one reason or another she had followed the warlock into battle despite her condition and defended him. She motioned for them to head farther from the pack, taking him to a corner. Rhett faded into and out of consciousness for a moment during the transition. His body had already grown numb to the pain leaving him to wonder if he should have been grateful or worried it was just a prelude to the end. Rhett's eyes focused on the sky as he tried to keep his focus straight. A large pair of wings overhead connected to the body of a person. Their flight was graceful as the being descended. It was an angel come to take him to the next life. Rhett smiled, lifting his head to gaze at the one who was to lead him from the pain.

    All he could see was
Brianne. However, in his mind it barely registered that she was not some angel of death. "Look...a beautiful angel come to take me to the light." He made an attempt to wave at the girl. The strength in his arm failed him and fell back to the ground after only having been raised an inch. "I didn't know you were an angel, Brianne." He squinted, seeing no wings on her. Frowning, he asked, "What happened to your..." His voice trailed off, having already lost more strength in his excitement. Once more, the lines between consciousness and unconsciousness blurred for the werewolf.

Alarick followed Nick in, his wary eyes sweeping the apartment. The shrill cry of the warlock sent a rush of adrenaline through his veins as he searched for the source. Cin turned to say something, but all Alarick had eyes for was the gleaming weapon Masque had picked up. He darted around Nick, jumping forward and grabbing for the knife. By the Angel, I should have let Brianne do this. She was the more compassionate one. But then again, perhaps it was better he was here, as he removed the weapon from Masque's possession and held the warlock's wrists in his hands, careful not to let their skin touch.

The way he was acting...it was as though he was a child. Brianne really should be here. But he was the one who had come, and so he would be the one to somehow deal with....this.

Cin's words finally penetrated the cloud of instincts and action that had surrounded his brain, and he spoke without taking his eyes from the warlock.
"No one is going to harm him. Unless you try to run." He spoke quietly, voice soothing. At least, the best he could do to make a soothing tone.

"Now I have to look you over to make sure you don't have any injuries or weapons, and then I need to put a rune around you to keep you from casting magic. Once I do that, no one will look at you, I give you my word as a Shadowhunter." He paused, trying to wrap his mind around this strange situation.

"I have to do this whether you cooperate or not. You can make this easy, and I'll get it done quickly, or you can struggle and I'll get those fellows to help me. So what's it going to be?" he asked
    Masque, his voice still soft.

Brianne's stomach flipped on itself as Paragon carried her through the air. For being the descendant of an Angel, she had a strange fear of flying. Never the less, as she landed safely on the ground, whipping her stele out, she glanced at the fairy Paragon had just saved. And then beyond that..."Rhett!" Her hand clenched the handle of her blade tightly as she gritted her teeth. Of course you'd say that. Even as you're dying. "Sorry, those wings were on loan." Brianne replied to Rhett, swallowing past the sudden dryness in her throat. She didn't have to look far to see Ash, wielding his hatchet as proficiently as any warrior of legend. By the Angel, he's old enough to be one. She glared after Paragon, but stepped in front of the two behind her just in time to cut down another wolf, its blood splattering her clothes.

    "
Ash, I can cover you!" She called to him, tossing her hair out of her face. "You have to save Rhett!" She didn't think it necessary to admit her backup was a little farther behind her, but hopefully, (she hoped), they would catch up quickly. She was sure they were both pisssed, but Rhett's life was worth it.

"If you don't do something, he's going to die!" She shouted, cutting back another wolf who was trying to sneak around to snatch a bite at Morrigan. What was the deal with the fairy, anyway?

Morrigan had flinched as Paragon landed on the wolf, dispatching it quickly. "Wait!" She called after him, her heart tugging as his wings extended and disappeared. She couldn't help the jealousy, but she wouldn't have minded fixing the confusion as she realized she couldn't place Paragon at the Seelie Court. But...there were no outcast fairies, none for a hundred years, and those that hadn't made their way back to the Seelie Queen's good graces didn't live here. They certainly wouldn't have helped her out.

    As the other
fairy disappeared, Morrigan was dragged from her thoughts by Rhett's voice. Even she, a stranger to battle, could tell he was fading fast. It was no surprise, but it hurt her to know she could do next to nothing. Kneeling besides his fallen form, she tore most of the skirt off of her dress, drastically shortening the clothing as she pressed the cloth to the wounds on Rhett's chest. "Just stay here, okay?" She murmured, her face tight with worry. She hadn't know the werewolf very long, really at all, but he was such an innocent soul that it hurt to see him in such pain.

    "Just stay with me.
Ash will be here soon, and the..." He had called her Brianne. Judging by the runes that glowed on her skin, she was a Shadowhunter. "Brianne is here too. You'll be okay."

She hoped the words weren't just a comforting lie.

Grayson paused, the members of his pack snarling around him as they formed a protective circle. "I wouldn't doubt that." he called to Paragon, his eyes narrowing in defiance at the mouth of the gun that no doubt carried silver bullets. If this fairy knew his name, he obviously knew what he was, and was targeting him for something he had done. Which, to be fair, there weren't a lot of hobbies he indulged in. But they hadn't eaten any fairies yet.

"But why would you murder me? For simply embracing what I am?" He swept his arm around the werewolves that surrounded him. "We are literally transformed by the disease we carry, with no choice or say in the matter. What can you do as a werewolf? Be a drug dog?" He snorted, eyes flashing. "Vampires are allowed ways to feed and curb their appetite, yet we are not offered the same. What are we supposed to do? Try and suppress ourselves when the wolf half is just as prominent as the human half? I don't see the vampires doing the same. And wolves need to hunt. So what would you have me do,
    fey?"

One of the wolves left his side to try and gain some ground on the form in the sky. Grayson let him go, keeping the attention of the
    fairy with his words.

"Really..? Too bad. I thought they suited you..." Rhett chuckled at Brianne's comment only for him to cough up blood, with pain searing through his ribs. As he began to pass out from the loss of blood he could feel pressure being applied to his chest and a voice calling to him. Whether it was Brianne's or Morrigan's he could no longer tell. It was sleepy time for the wolf.

    ~

Ash heard Brianne's voice call to him. She was foolish to think she could actually fend off so many wolves even if the pack had been thinned. But perhaps she was not alone. The Lightwoods were not known for stupidity. Other nephilim must have been nearby. In either case, she was correct. From the wounds he had seen Rhett sustain there was very little time to spare. Ash let out a low growl as he backed away from the pack, careful not to allow any to flank him from the side as he retreated towards Rhett.

    "
Thank you." He spoke to Brianne. "I will be sure to make a more official show of my gratitude at another time but for now," Ash looked at Rhett. "Do not die. I will not hear the end of it from him if you did." He knelt by Rhett's side, glancing over at Morrigan. "Please, will you assist me in getting him out of here? Keeping him from dying might require more than my own hands. I...I need your help." Lifting the injured man, Ash took a deep breath. Seeing him in such a state was painful but there would be time to worry after he had done his job. Taking one final turn towards Brianne he silently wished her luck before taking off.

Roxanne called him old man and sure he was older than her but not that old. He didn't remark on it though "It's alright, you wanted to help that's what counts." He said in response to her apology. He smiled when she asked him if she had forgotten that she'd protect him. It just wouldn't be as easy as Roxanne would think, no plan survived contact with the enemy. He followed her towards the door and stood a few paces backwards from the door and pulled the bowstring back. A pained grimace flashed across his face as his muscles worked, but it wasn't anything he couldn't handle. With the arrow drawn he nodded towards Roxanne and said "Alright, open up the door I got you covered."

They were on their own as
Paragon had taken Brianne to the courtyard, they had to move quickly, if they didn't want to be bringing back Brianne's corpse, if they even brought anything back at all. He'd follow Roxanne through the building as quickly as the pack would allow them to. Grayson was trivial in his eyes as long as they all survived the ordeal then he didn't care if the wolf got away or not. After all he didn't want to go to Mr Perfect to tell him his little sister had gotten killed on his watch. He already didn't like him to much, but if that happened he doubted if he would still be a Nephilim following that.
