I was watching the history channel this morning, and it was something about the mayan, it said that they foretold there own downfall, and they were dead right, but wrong time, 1000 years earlier then they expected, and also the mayan calender, it fortold all of the bad things that happened, 9/11, for instance, they foretold that, and also the mayans belived the earth was destroyed, 4x, and reborn 5x, and the next time and final for it to be deystroyed...is 2012...more specific, 12/21/12, what do you think about that
Prediction of the future, in any capacity, based on anything but facts is impossible. Nostradamus for example used very vague language in his so called prophecies and admitted to believing they were nothing more than drivel, however some people seem to believe that through twisting his words to fit a situation he had in fact told of the future. If anyone can predict something and tell beforehand what is going to happen exactly in a way that eliminates all vagueness or twist from the equation then maybe the future can be told, since no one has ever done so consistently it is impossible as of yet to see into the "future".
The Mayan Calender, it is a fore teller of desasters, not really the mayans foretold there downfall, but the calender did, there was this symbol, it is said that on that year, that month, that day, that something bad would happen, it had that symbol on, 9/11/00, and it happened didn't it, if i can find an image of the mayan calender i will put it up here it is http://www.armageddononline.org/image/mayan1.GIF
Personally, I think people are being paranoid and that they ran out of space. It is possible that there is another calendar hidden somewhere.
The Mayan Religion is very interesting.. If you look up the Mayan Religion it has some very interesting topics, if you are really into historical studies. How to I know? It's because I have done a project of my own on the Mayan Civilization for my class, so that's why.
People take comfort in the possibility that some horrific event such as 9/11 could have been foretold. Nostradamus also has a verse which people have interpreted to be foretelling 9/11. After it happened, people took up interest in Nostradamus' predictions looking for something that told them. There is also a code n the Bible that scholar's have found to predict much of history. Anyway, most of it is just interpretation and the brain finding patterns that mean nothing. It's like the man in the moon syndrome. We look up at the moon and think we see a face while others see dark spots. Looking at the Maya calender is much he same. Some of us see a doomsday prophecy and others see a calender from a highly advanced civilization. A calender based on astrology to best predict rainfall and the harvest seasons. It stops at 12/21/12 true but the Maya have said that the world had ended and began before this date. This is simply when their calender ends. Who are we to say what the future holds? We do not know if the world will end on 12/21/12 but it did not end on 6/6/06 or 7/7/07 or any other predicted dates for the end of the world. The world did not end upon reaching the year 2000 nor do I think it will end on 12/21/12.
Quite not sure... because not sure whom had said this earlier where ever I was but, it was said we were to die, for Earth to fail last year or...not what year but the past.
If they're calender foretold their own downfall, it could be possible. The world was destroyed four times and reborn five times? Maybe they mean that the creatures of the world rather than the actual world were destroyed. One of the times they were referring to could be the death of the dinosaurs, the largest mass extinction out of the entire time the Earth has been around.
Creator, don't spam. Anyway. There was a thread about this already, but I think it'd be best to let that one die. >_> I personally don't think it's true. I've never believed in predictions of the future, and I wouldn't believe it even if the Mayan civilization still existed. And no one has ever predicted a specific event like 9/11. It's always, "A great disaster etc. etc.". It's not "Terrorists will hijack planes and kill over 3,000 people". The world didn't end when the year 2000 came around. The world didn't end when it was 6/6/06. If you're about to counter that by saying there's a zero in it, then guess what, if the world ended on 6/6/6, how are we still here? We haven't even decoded the Mayan language completely, so until we have a full understanding of the language, I wouldn't assume anything. Besides, if they're wrong, the solar system will end in some 40 million years anyway. It's that "damned if you do, damned if you don't" scenerio for us. xD
I don't think that true. One can't exactly say thing like that when there are unexplained things all around the world. You must be open minded, you see, for things aren't just what the facts say they are. I myself cannot explain what I mean, just that saying you cannot predict the future is not true. By my opinion anyways. No one has the Mind power enough to tell exactly what's going to happen all around the world, to every person, and to every being on the planet. You cannot say that without seeing for yourself that there are some people out there with some Psychic Capabilities. You are so right. Some people out there are frauds, but that doesn't mean all of them are fake.
The others may have been some genocide in history. Maybe World War II? The magic we see is an illusion.
I wouldn't call it a lost science, as it is more of an art. Plus it ignores the laws of science that have already been proven.
