"What I'd do to just remember the voices..."

 

"I also remember the pain..." Cian explained looking at the flower she had been messing with.

 

Kait sighed. I remember pain too... In more ways than one...

 

Cian continued to stare at the flower...

 

"What's so interesting about that flower?"

 

"Before... you were making it blossom?"

 

"Yeah, it just needed a push." Kait smiled "Sometimes they need a little help."

 

Cian smiled happily her...

 

"That's kinda my wings." She explained "I can control nature, not alot. But enough."

 

"They aren't wings..." Dein repeated. "simply an experiment gone wrong... though to be honest i don't know what more they wanted..."
i know exactly what they wanted... they wanted a more controllable, easier found way of duplicating it... He thought darkly to himself...

 

"You might not be able to fly with them but they look like them. Anyway, I ment it's what they did to me."

 

"I-I can fly" He reassured. "But it's not the result they wanted... and i'd much prefer your ability to mine..."

 

"I wish I could fly... That'd be great... you could just fly away and never come back..." She sighed gazing skyward "Anyway, it's not very good. I'd rather be nothing than this, it's a taster power if anything. I can speed up erosion, make flowers bloom, hold water, stop fire spreading. But only as long as the substance I'm changing weights less than a eigth of my body mass."

 

"Excuss me but have you ever had two of your bones rib through your back?" cian asked looking at her and indicating his wings. "I spent weeks strabbed to a bed, blindfolds over my eyes, having two of my own bones rip through my back, and eventually forming this! and if you think that's bad, imagine growing feathers! and even after that they tried to further my mutation... i went through hell...

 

You're not the only one... There are worse things they could do... that they do do... Kait thought dropping her head as the tirade came at her. Hunching up her shoulders, trying to make herself seem as small as possible...

 

He plucked another feather. "Just so you know this is my third set of wings..." He explained darkly. "I don't know what you wennt through but going through what i've already ,entioned, and then having every single last feather ripped off for some experiment and then having them cut your bonnes, and use them to experiment on you and make you sprout a new set, and then to go through that again..."

Kait nodded. Not looking up, her pale green hair covering her white face.

 

Cian removed the hair in her face with one of his wings... "They come in handy though..." He explained. "What's wrong?"

"Just remebering, that's all. It's nothing, I'm just being stupid. It dosn't pay to dwell in the past, it's the future we've got look forward to." She said determindly looking up again.

"Not if we don't have a future..." Cian disagreed sadly. "We're discarded experiments, and although you have a chance of living a normal life, since you can hide your ability, i can't i mean everyone would notice if i walked down the street with wings sticking out of my back!"
