Going through my comp deleting things I either don't want or don't need and I noticed that it's been nearly a year since I made some of this stuff. Damn. Time flies. I can't believe it's nearly been a year since I watched Nichijou and played Days. I remember watching and playing those in January. I remember the January before that I was playing D012 every second I could. Haven't really played it since. It's been more than a year since I played DDD for the first time, I think I had beaten it by now. I got it for Christmas in 2012. But man, I cannot believe it's been a year already. Alright, spontaneous reminiscing done.

Yeah, I'm there with ya. I can't believe it's almost been a year since I played MGR. Let alone six since I played MGS4

You know, you keep mentioning that game like it's the second coming or some **** and I haven't even played a MGS game, much less MGR. Though I do intend to buy it at some point once I get a ps3. Looks super crazy awesome.

OH? I ACTUALLY GET TO TALK ABOUT IT? SOMEONE POST THE HAPPIEST FACE EVER HERE. DO IT.

In all seriousness, it's just really flawless design. It feels like someone finally converted the real feel of playing an old school game but last gen. People always comment on how Miyamoto is a genius because he constantly made really smart design choices (he didn't, ever, that was a diff guy, but that's another topic for another day) and this game is no different. Everything is on purpose in the gameplay. It's even to the point the writers realized the game had a ludonarrative dissonance and they made it a huuuuge part of the narrative so not only is the combat all around cutting down your foes (no, literally, everything revolves around cutting and it's nothing but a benefit to the player to do unless he fucks it up, you know, like a jump mechanic in any platformer), but it's also about the the aggression your character has built up inside of him and his willingness to face it (which is why the cutting is just so... brutal).

There's a lot more to it (I mean, the vocal tracks are always the thoughts and pasts of the boss you're currently mowing down as they realize they're about to die making it so they don't need long cutscenes to be characterized), but basically this game is hidden master piece. It takes one idea for gameplay and builds everything around it. I know I'm on a KH forum and will probably be slain for saying this, but games are about a lot more than story to me. I enjoy a good story when a game gives one, but games like the early FF's, Majora's Mask, etc didn't just use the narrative elements to make award winning games. They centralized everything around the core mechanics and the main interactive element and that's why we remember them so good.

Games are art, but not because they wrote something that played your emotions like a harp. It takes more than killing someone who's impossible to not like over sad music. They're art because of their individual designs which brings them their own unique interactive identity. That, and long ago I realized the games we remember years later aren't the GOTY winners, it's the ones that are just fun to play. But yeah, I feel this way about a lot of games- not just MGR. Almost all of my favorite games do this and Rising is just the latest entry into my vault of good times. Plus, it's about one of my favorite game characters ever so it resonates very strongly with me

Oh, and you don't need to play a single MGS game to really understand it. At all.

If it looks like your type of game, or a genre you want to get into, yes. It's really enjoyable, CUHRAAAAYZEE, and easily is a game that defines the Character Action genre

I watched like 30 secs of a gameplay vid once and thought it looked great. It is nice to know that you don't need to play an MGS game to play it, though. Not because I wouldn't be willing to, but because... I just don't want to.

I don't blame you. Long time, lots o' money, and MGS3 is a tad.... overloved.

So I'm trying to enjoy episode two of Sherlock, and the buffering is just awful. Still, it's better than waiting for an airdate on BBCA.

Also just dreading my return to school tomorrow and yet I'm so looking forward to playing Audiosurf when I get home. 'S such a cool game and I love it. <3
