I like the new thing. Someone said it earlier, but it kind of looks like a night club sign.

Now we need dance music. Or that sort of background music that plays in the chill bars with the comfy couches around tables and everyone is drinking scotch or whiskey and the lights are dimmed and the bar has one of those glass shelves with the mirrors in the background and that's the only thing in the bar lit with white light, not orangey light.

here are my thoughts

Alright

Character/plot wise this was a whole lot of nothing.
I found it hugely predictable and grasping for originality, with the prerequisite dumb and dapper mc these type of things seems to be required to have. It did a suffeciant job of establishing its universe, but I know nothing about the politics of it which is something it needs to stress. I have no idea what those guys riding the Statue of Liberties head (which btw how awesome was that) were doing, but I may have just missed a line or something. The ending was interesting and I'll definitely be back next week to see how it plays out. But as far as this one episode is concerned, it didn't do much. It will live or die for me depending on what happens with these next few episodes. If it can prove itself in these next few episodes I'll def. stick with it. It had a somewhat unique and interesting visual style, but not so interesting that I could watch it solely for that. So yeah. Definitely fun to watch, but not so fun it can get away with doing nothing.

Nah for reel, you make good points but I have to stop for a second to warn ya... This is Watanabe. They will probably explain shit eventually, but it probably won't be right away. Did you ever see Samurai Champloo or Cowboy Bebop? Took those both awhile to really establish what was going on. Generally, he likes to just have fun with his shows first.

This one might be different, but the plot could be the least interesting thing going on here against, say,the actual events

I know nothing about creators in anime but if the same guy who made CB made this I'll give it the benefit of the doubt for the time being. But I will say that just because your names on something doesn't excuse it from being bad. Not saying it is bad or that it will be bad, just making a point. And if this is just going to be CB2.0 you gotta emphasize the differences sooner to establish its own identity.

Not to be a downer on it or start being overly critical too soon, just saying.

Though I do think that this episode is more of a preliminary episode given the ending and what the show is, airing in the US first and all, and that we'll see the real first episode next week. It's like in comics where the first issue released is 0.1 or 0 or whatever and then the real number 1 comes out after.

 

His shows always kick off kinda like that yeah, but he's def more about the settings and things happening as opposed to why. This might be different, but I'm just giving you ample warning: If you liked seeing the crazy tonight, then stick around because they'll be plenty of it.
