OOC Hibernation Trance, Jedi hibernation or Force trance was a Control-based ability of a Force user to go into a very deep hibernation state. This slowed down the user's metabolism and breathing to a standstill, causing the force-user to only use one-tenth of the air of a normal individual. A fully trained Force user could stay in this state for up to one week in a fry climate or one month in a wet climate before dying from lack of water.

It is likely Jedi Master Tholme may have used this ability on numerous occasions, such as to place himself outside of his former apprentice's (Aayla Secura and Quinlan Vos) thoughts so they could fight clearly in times of great struggle. It was also used by K'Kruhk to fake death after being struck down by Grievous at the Battle of Hypori. Cade Skywalker used it to survive after the Massacre of Ossus. Also, Kreia, in the morgue at Peragus II, used the Hibernation Trance to seem dead. Luke Skywalker was known to use it in the course of long hyperspace flights.

Many users seem catatonic after going into a hibernation trance, like Kreia who wasn't harmed in any way but was still placed in the morgue. A hibernating force-user would appear dead to all but another force-user. This can lead to some tricky results if no one knows the truth to the trance. A Jedi in a hibernation trance could provide a 'trigger phrase' that, if recited by another person, would bring the Jedi out of the trance.[1]

A Hibernation Trance was a lesser form of the more advanced force power Morichro.
