The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus

Plot: The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus is a fantastical morality tale, set in the present day. It tells the story of Dr Parnassus and his extraordinary 'Imaginarium', a travelling show where members of the audience get an irresistible opportunity to choose between light and joy or darkness and gloom. Blessed with the extraordinary gift of guiding the imaginations of others, Dr Parnassus is cursed with a dark secret. Long ago he made a bet with the devil, Mr Nick, in which he won immortality. Many centuries later, on meeting his one true love, Dr Parnassus made another deal with the devil, trading his immortality for youth, on condition that when his first-born reached its 16th birthday he or she would become the property of Mr Nick. Valentina is now rapidly approaching this 'coming of age' milestone and Dr Parnassus is desperate to protect her from her impending fate. Mr Nick arrives to collect but, always keen to make a bet, renegotiates the wager. Now the winner of Valentina will be determined by whoever seduces the first five souls. Enlisting a series of wild, comical and compelling characters in his journey, Dr Parnassus promises his daughter's hand in marriage to the man that helps him win. Wow. That sounds and looks amazing. Definitely a must-watch.

I had to do a double-take when I saw Heath Ledger's name on that. I guess production began a while ago?

 

Actually he died during the filming of it, which is why there are several different actors playing the same part. They made it work as the character Heath played was supposed to undergo physical transformations regardless of his death. At first the director, Terry Gilliam, didn't want to finish it after Heath died, but was eventually persuaded to.

 

Wow. The movie really does look like it's worth watching. Surprised me to see Heath Ledger in the movie though. Either way, it really does look like an amazing movie. I don't think I saw the release date, though. When will it be released?​

Christmas isn't the best day to release a movie. I wouldn't think many theaters would even be open on Christmas. But meh, I suppose there must have been a reason to choose that day.

EDIT: After having a freak-out when I found out it's not playing at the nearest theater, I figured out that Christmas was its "limited" release date. Its wide release date is set for January 8th. 8D8
