I finally gave in and started watching Naruto. Every couple of episodes, I'll be giving a review of what I think so far. For those of you who've spoken to me before, you know I've had little patience with the series, so this is coming from a completely unbiased anime fangirl. Please remember this is all my personal opinion, and you're free to disagree; however, please don't flame, or I lose patience completely. Let's begin, shall we? Episodes 01-03 Right... well, I've decided to watch the Japanese subs because the English voice for Naruto almost made my ears bleed. The concept is interesting, though I don't think starting with the concept of the Nine-Tailed Fox and revealing it in the first episode was very wise. It would have been better had they left it unresolved as to why everyone hated Naruto so much. In the beginning of episode 03, I thought Sakura was irritating, and still do. That will probably change as I continue watching the series. Sasuke... is adorable. When I first saw him in the beginning of 03, I thought he was irritating as well, but just telling Sakura she was annoying... I like him. And he has a mysterious past. See, that's what they should have done with Naruto's past. Iruka-sensei (sp?) is an interesting character so far. Still wondering who the guy in the mask is. Please don't post spoilers here. Feel free to comment on what I've said, but I'm allergic to spoilers (you can ask ZotT if you don't believe me).
I definately agree that the english subs suck horribly. They totally ruined the series... ><; Eh, I think it would be a little wierd if they didn't mention the Kyuubi in the first episode, but maybe that's because I'm farther into the story line then you are... Yeah, Sakura was reaaaaaaly annoying in most of the beginning episodes... Eh, never was too interested in Iruka...
thanks for posting this, never really understood Naruto then again i have only seen the first episode. the tings you write is interesting i might give it a second shoot:D
NINJAS OF THE NIIIGHT!!! Honestly, was it because of that? xD And yes, Jade-SAMA, sensei is spelled (spelt?) right. Good luck with this. You've got some 200+ episodes to go! ^^
Oh, that's true. After you get past the...big fight...SKIP THE EPISODES. I thinks it's after/during the 140s, correct me if I'm wrong.
Fillers start exactly on episode 97 meaning skip the rest of Naruto after watching episode 96. Wikipedia is awesome, I found that out in like 30 seconds. xD
DUDE. That's not true. If you recall, there's a fight between certain characters in the 130s. I AM NOT SAYING WHO. But not only that, episode 101 is hilarious. ... 200TH POST!!! xD
Your opinion on Sakura won't change unfortunately. xD Or it won't change until you reach episode 200... she's pretty much useless before that. :P I like Sasuke too, in the beginning.. then some things happened. x_x Also, Iruka's my favourite sensei. I managed to watch most of the dubs because Iruka's English voice is Quinton Flynnnnnn. =D I think this thread should have a spoiler warning in it, even though nothing's really been said yet.
Yeah, at first I planned on watching Naruto after watching the animes on my "animes to watch list" (XD), but now I don't really, I've read part of the manga and it doesn't really interest me. =/ I have no clue why, it's just not my type of anime or manga I guess.... Oh, and NEVER watch the English dubs! American dubs are completely and totally evil....
I find the first arc (Zabuza arc) to be one of the best arcs in the whole series. Naruto is a good anime but I personally think it's highly overrated.
hehe, that's probably the only reason I watch the dubs. Whenever I see Iruka now, I picture him as Axel. xD Sakura is just going to stay annoying. =_= until Shuppuuden. She's a bit better.
Episodes 04-05 This review contains spoilers for the following episodes: Episode 04: Pass or Fail: Survival Test Episode 05: You Failed! Kakashi's Final Decision Kakashi is... interesting, to say the least, though the whole premise of "teamwork" was rather obvious. I mean, even I had figured it out halfway through this mini-story arc, so a group of would-be ninja should have figured it out almost immeditately. What do they teach these kids at the Academy, anyway? Not much, appearently. Anyway, back to the "teamwork" issue. I was actually hoping Kakashi would fail them all; it would have been more in keeping with the "no one has ever passed his trials" motif they were going with. Had he failed them, I would have been surprised, rather than the expected "oh-well-you're-the-main-character-plus-sidekicks-so-you-automatically-get-out-of-jail-free". I was hoping for more from a Japanese anime, but perhaps I set my standards too high after Fullmetal Alchemist and Death Note. Had they failed, it would have been an opportunity for a more detailed glimpse at Academy training. AND THEN my favorite question; if "Harem no Jutsu" is so ownsome and powerful, why didn't Naruto use it against Kakashi? He should have at least used "Sexy no Jutsu"... however, I did write this review only after moving on to watch up to Episode 08, so it's possible he did use it and I forgot. While on the subject of "Sexy no Jutsu" and "Harem no Jutsu", allow me to take this opportunity to facepalm at the mere title and premise. Sakura still has yet to show any real value other than being obsessed with Sasuke. I'm waiting for her to do something spectacular to redeem herself, but well... we'll see. Sasuke still intrigues me. He seems to be very bitter at the world, and I'm awfully curious as to whom the man he wants to kill so badly is. Sasuke is beginning to remind me of a younger, smaller, less-bishonen Yu Kanda from D.Gray-Man. Oh, and a final note; the opening theme is annoying. Again, I'd like to please remind everyone to keep this post free from spoilers later in the series.
