Here is some history that may interest you guys on Spyro.

Personally, the only handheld game I played was Season of Ice, which I didn't really like. The only complaint I personally have is with Enter the Dragonfly. It's fun, but, as I mentioned in another Spyro thread a long time ago, after reading what it was supposed to be, I was mad at Universal Interactive Studios (I think that was the company) for making the developers do a rush job just so they could have it out before Christmas.

Like the Crash series, I grew up on the spyro series. Not the legend of spyro (although I did rather enjoy those), but the original spyro games. It was simple enough to play, and really enjoyable. To this day I still like listening to the soundtrack of the first game, and I enjoyed playing it almost as much as the crash series, but not quite. If there was one thing above all else that I enjoyed it was this; I got to play as a god damn kangaroo, and I loved every second of it.

The only experience I had with the Spyro series was a demo of the first game (I think it was the first game). Seemed like a fun game, and I regret not getting it for my PS1 all those years ago (might download it to my PS3 if I ever feel like it someday). Although, I do feel bad for those who grew up with the series having to go through the fact that Skylanders is now what kids today think of when they hear 'Spyro.'

As much as I enjoy playing the skylanders series, I play it quite frequently, they destroyed the image of spyro. What happened to the cute, friendly-ish looking dragon and who is this menacing looking thing that shares the same name?!

I hear that Skylanders is a decent series, and that's fine. But yeah, I understand your feelings.

If you watched the videos, Skylanders really shouldn't be called a Spyro game. It's just a game with a Spyro character.

I know that changes always happen, which is why I don't mind the "The Legend of Spyro" trilogy or Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly, but Skylanders isn't even Spyro. :(

That may be, but as long as it's making tons of money (which it is), Skylanders is a thing.

Oh! If this is what the demo looked like, then, yes, it was the first game you played. :)

Hmm, I am definitely considering downloading the first one to my PS3. If I love it, I'll get the other two as well.
