The Game

She followed him, yawning. "How long have you been on this earth?" she asked, looking around.

 

nox sat down at the base the rock, 'odd way of asking how old I am but I am 23.'

 

She grinned. "Gotta make life more interesting." thinking, she sat down next to him, barely aware of anything but the thoughts in her head. "23 years...."

 

"How old are you," Nox asked Aly. Nox went through his bag looking for food.

 

"Eighteen." she replied, looking up at the sky. "My birthday was last week."

 

"Happy birthday then here have a present," Nox tossed Aly a small package of drided food, "it may looked wierd but it okay to eat."

 

She smiled and tried a little of the food. "Thanks...It was just like any other day, really." It was a little salty, but not bad. She ate some more, thinking.

 

The sun began to sink under the horison and the temperature began to drop. Nox te some of his food and had a sip of his water.

 

Aly sighed, shivering lightly. "I hate this time of night." she grumbled, wrapping her arms around herself. "The stars are pretty, but its cold."

 

Nox walked over and sat down next to her. He opened up his jaket and said, "this should keep us both warm."

 

She hesitated, several thoughts running through her mind, then shrugged. "Okay." She leaned against the part of the jacket that was open, and grinned. "Don't get any ideas." she warned.

 

"I wouldn't think of it," Nox said smileing, "You realy can't find stars like these in Darkra. So many lights from the city."

 

Aly nodded slowly. "Back home, you could see them. Not many lights where we were. Just our house and a few others. It would get really quiet, and you could almost hear the gentle breeze...." she held back the memories once more, a painful reminder.

 

"For what it's worth I'm sorry that this happend," Nox said ajusting himself so that both he and Aly were comfterable.

 

She smiled slightly, hesitantly leaning her head on his shoulder so she wouldn't hurt her neck looking up. "It's supposed to be in the past...but the past can't just die, can it?" she sighed quietly, holding back tears and memories now. It wasn't worth the tears anyway.

 

"I'd say look on the bright side but I realy don't see one," Nox said looking at Aly's eyes.".

 

She couldn't help but laugh. "There's the truth. I don't look at the brightside." she murmured, looking back up at the sky. "That way, if things go wrong you expected it, but if things go right, then you're happily surprised."

 

"That is morbadly bright," Nox said smileing.

 

She grinned, then closed her eyes, hiding the stars from view. "At least its not morbidly depressing." she murmured, listening to the sounds around her.

 

"Yeah," Nox said softly looking up at the stars.
