Well, since the literal beginning of keeping track of time there have been groups both mainstream and fringe that have been completely convinced that the earth is going to end without any possible way of stopping it. At one time it was religion and prophecies telling us this and in some cases it still is, but those aren't the only things that get to strike fear into everyone's hearts and spread feelings of endingness throughout our great big global society. An example of a new contender in the worlds race to the end all is Science. People who know something about science seem to think that global warming will kill us, others have their bets on the piece of rock from outer space others say earthquakes, and even others say mega disasters of various origins. Is this just a common fear all people share, the end that is? Why do so many think that the world is ending for such reasons? Is there any more backing to the current reasons for the end than there is for the old ones? Is the world really ending this time? Historically we are roughly 0 for 20,000,000 as far as scares, guesses and predictions go, but you gotta play to win.

    Thread on this already.

Also, I don't think we're "due" for any end of the world. I don't think there's any prophecy out there that can predict it, either, because not ever has any prophecy ever come true in any divine manner. So, I suppose an "end" of the world we could all envision is something like a meteorite striking the planet, or a bunch of them. Or maybe we get flooded/wiped out from nuclear holocaust. There's many different ways, but I don't think some divine event will happen.

It probably goes back to people's thoughts of their own mortality.
I mean most people fear dieing, and try anything they can too stop it. I t makes sense that people fear their whole species could end.
Whether it happens or not, meh, not anytime soon for the End of the world, but humanity probbly has a few more generation if global warming doesn't stop, but thats a guess.

And I thought that the age of the Earth couldn't be measured, because we would never have solid evidence of how to calculate the 'birth' of the Earth?

hmmm....as far as i see it....every living being in the universe playes a specific role.
if they fill in tha role as they should the world will be better.
however...death is a part of life and without death there wouldn't be a real thing called life... only eternity...
it may very well happen that the world may end or something like that...but then life has played it's role and lived.... i sound weird right?..... well uhh...enjoy what you can and make life a bliss..
it's unecessary to worry about the future when it hasen't even happened..
that's what i think and i may be completely wrong
