Wait, is he saying we live on Terry Pratchett's Discworld? If that's the case, WHERE'S THE LUGGAGE? But seriously, what kind of school is this?

The Geographic South Pole is marked by a small sign and a stake in the ice pack, which are repositioned each year on New Year's Day to compensate for the movement of the ice. The sign records the respective dates that Roald Amundsen and Robert F. Scott reached the Pole, followed by a short quotation from each man, and gives the elevation as 9,301 ft (2,835 m).

    Ceremonial South Pole

The Ceremonial South Pole is an area set aside for photo opportunities at the South Pole Station. It is located a short distance from the Geographic South Pole, and consists of a metallic sphere on a plinth, surrounded by the flags of the Antarctic Treaty signatory states.

If it's a bowl then it isn't flat, just saying.

Yet you can fly over Antarctica. The pole has been reached from more than one entry point, so even if you did not go all of the way around, two people from opposites sides of your disc could both fly to it and meet each other, proving that it is round.

Physically speaking, my argument is one thing only: Newton measuring the force of gravity, the number could be tested anywhere on the globe... And since the force of gravity is roughly the same everywhere on the globe, the only logical explanation is the very fact that the Earth is, indeed, spherical.

(Source: http://www.physlink.com/education/askexperts/ae535.cfm and my Science teacher.)

Religiously speaking, there are mentions in the Bible that the world can be, indeed, flat rather than round, and here are some bible verses that suggest it:
Isaiah 11:12 , which suggests the four corners of the Earth.
Revelation 7:1, once again, the Four Corners of the Earth.
Job 38:13, The ends of the Earth, and so on.
(Source: My bible teacher and studying religion for 3 years.)

I'm not trying to start a religious debate, I am only here to suggest both sides of the argument.

He will simply deny it like the space thing, though. It isn't that he is good at arguing, it is that he is good at ignoring what other people present.

    I never realized that.

Proof firsthand that the Bible was a creation of man.

That would also explain why those who said the Earth was round were seen as heretics and burned at the stake.

uhmmm we're not a catholic school, but we're a catholic nation. so I don't know if religion should be used as proof.

To be fair, anyone who suggested anything that wasn't mentioned in the bible (or any other religious philosphy, for that matter) was considered a heretic.

There's also biblical evidence that the Earth may be, indeed, round, I will post the verses when I can remember them c:

I'm not using the bible as proof at all, if you read again, I suggest that I was only using it as an example as to why many people (especially religious people) will believe the Earth is flat. I also suggested the Physical proof as to why the Earth is round.

You mean flat in the second part.

    That would be fair.

he said otherwise by saying that gravity pulled downwards and not at the center of the earth.

    His or her teacher.

It is a perfectly valid claim. As far as we know, gravity pulls us to the ground. It does not matter if the ground is spherical or not, you would still be able to measure the fact that it pulled you to the ground with the same force everywhere.

Gravity itself does not make the planet spherical. As far as I know.

Hmm.. you raise a valid point. Unfortunately, I'm not a genius, nor will I ever be.. I have a feeling that your teacher is just trying to get a reaction out of the students, however.

Happens all the time, believe it or not. I had a Spanish teacher once from China... Let's just say that she could barely even speak English, let alone Spanish.
