what was the point of the device? was it used so that roxas could defeat xion?

 

it powered xion ....xemnas made it to help xion kill roxas

they had him plant it so they wouldn't expend members time on something they could have a throw away member do

 

I think it was just to power up Xion. Although I wonder why he made Roxas plant it...

 

It helped intercept Sora's memories from going to Roxas and redirected them to Xion.

I thought it was sad he made Roxas plant it, it was like making Roxas plan out his end without knowing it. Like you said, it gave Xion power. So they were planning on having Xion and Roxas do a face-off (I mean, it's obvious since they had them do it before in Halloween Town) they were just giving Xion as much of an advantage as possible since she seemed more controllable than Roxas. However, they had Roxas plant the device there that gave Xion more power, which is like having Roxas set up his own demise. So sad. :(

 

The devices were placed to amplify Xion's powers. Which is why she transforms during the battle with her.

They had Roxas set them up only to hasten his death really.

I guess that they somehow convinced her? I'm not sure. It's like how Xion would just randomly start a fight with Roxas towards the end of Days. Maybe she was just messed up like that? :3

I also have a question. Did Xion go through all those stages herself, or was that also the device's powers? It seems more like Xion has no real powers, they just liked her so they gave her shiny armor and power to beat Roxas.

 

Well Xion knew Roxas wouldn't attack her unless provoked and she knew she needed to go away( She was impeding Sora's memory restoration) so that's why she attacked Roxas. The device powered her with Sora's memories from each world( I guess Twilight Town being the exception) so the stages she went through were the devices' doing.

 

Actually, it isn't just that the device powered her, to go more into it, the devices contained Sora's memories of the worlds that he was in, and his memories of him. Like for example, Xion gains the ability to fly in Wonderland, maybe thats an adaptation of glide, and she uses Sonic Blade as her special. For a better example, in Agrabah, she has 4 swords, reference to Kurt Liza, and she uses Ars Arcanium (Don't really know the spelling) as her special, direct from Sora's memories.

 

I actually always wondered why the organisation wanted Xion to be the winner. I mean sure, you want a complete keyblade master, so you want to merge Xion and Roxas. One has to destroy and absorb the other. But why preffer Xion over Roxas?
And now I think I know why. It's because Roxas is a nobody, making him pretty much a human with no heart. He still has a mind of his own. He could easely go against the Organisation's grand designs, like he did. Xion, on the other hand, is a puppet. A product of the replica program. She can easely be reprogrammed, making her much easyer to controll. This is shown too. Xemnas reprogrammed her, and Xion then attacked Roxas, something she would never do otherwise.

 

Actually, I wonder about that. Xion goes to Twilight Town to merge with Sora, Then Axel comes to take her back to the Organization. He succeeds and all we see is him collapsing at The Castle That Never Was, then Xemnas picking Xion up and walking away. We don't see Xion again until she attacks Roxas. You're saying that Xemnas reprogrammed her, but if he did, then her words to Roxas would NOT have anything to do with Sora. It seemed to me that Xion was acting on her own free will, because (sorry, I don't remember the exact words) she said something along the lines of "I need to defeat you and then I'll go back to Sora. That's what I was created for." If Xemnas REALLY reprogrammed her, then she wouldn't want to go back to Sora.

EDIT: I went back and watched the video. I think you're right. She doesn't mention Sora at all before her battle with Roxas. Only after she was defeated and regained her senses. So now that I think about it...Xemnas must've reprogrammed her.

 

The Device was used to strenghten Xion. I'm not exactly sure it was the thing that transformed her into all those different beast, but it did help her, none of the less.
