You don't know that, and thinking that way may just make it much easier to say "That person deserves to die".

No human being is superior over the other. Because of that, I don't think we have the right to end someone else's life. I'm also not saying leave it in God's hands--but I will say, that in a sense--*you* are the one deciding if a person should die or not. And I don't think we have any right to make that choice.

It just scares me out easily you can come out and say that. Saying to just kill someone because it's more 'realistic'. Let them rot their entire life away, what's so wrong with that?

Karma is supposed to be something inevitable. Killing someone is a choice. True karma would be a murderer falling down a set of stairs and breaking his/her head open; that would be karma. The fact that the death penalty happens in some states/countries and doesn't in others proves that the lives of criminals suddenly become the property of someone else (notably the judge and jury who produce the verdict), which is... sort of sad.

but think of the hell they put their victims through as they're killing them. even the death penalty might not be enough. the murderer might have stabbed that person little by little to torture them. and then the murderer gets killed how? they go to sleep and never wake up

So you're saying we should have more elaborate death penalties? Like we should chain them to a chair and slowly stab them and torture them until they bleed to death? What kind of humanity would we become if that somehow became this glorious "Justice" that everyone seems to preach when they say "[They] should die."

Does that make us any better than the murderers who killed the innocent? And if your answer turns out to be "Yes, because they're murderers", then I really have nothing more to say.

I think that the family that was affected by the criminal should decide their punishment.....and I don't believe in the death sentence, yes they get killed but they will never go through what the family is going through at the moment......I say they start torture again and let the family get their kicks with the criminal =D

Very well put ????. I agree.

And personally, I think the death sentence is alright, as long as it's used correctly. I say anyone who commits rape/murder or any other of serious crime should get the death sentence. But like ???? said before in earlier posts, it doesn't truly make sense...we're breaking the law to kill another. Of course, the American law has it's fair share of errors.

    Just a recent article.
Point #1: Facts over the last two decades show that states with death penalties actually show increases in murder rate more so than states that don't.

Point #2: It actually costs more money to house and imprison criminals serving a death sentence. There goes your tax dollars.

Point #3: Evidently there is proof that *many* death-row inmates have been proven innocent in the future. What does that say about the judgment of the human race? Are we still fit to 'sentence death' on others when we are so inadequate in our judgments? If you're up to verse on your Forensic Psychology, you'd know exactly where I'm coming from.

Point #4: Life without parole actually shows a better distribution of your money (500 additional police officers and 10,000 drug addicted patients).

I just had to re-instate that, as it was my main point from the beginning. Our ethics as human beings are what we use to create the laws we follow today. If we begin to slowly bend our constitution little by little, and not holding firm, the infrastructure that governs us as a society will just begin to crumble. Unlike the death penalty, this is why other life issues like Abortion and Euthanasia have continually met resistence from becoming legalized in so many countries around the world.

well....yea....BUT.....instead of a death penalty. we COULD just follow other countries. i heard that if u steal in Singapore, they slice ur hand off:eek: . and mebbe that's why their crime rate is low? but it DOES cost less to just jail them, so i dunno

I agree becuase imagine people killing people and if they just put them in cells if any of them ever escape it would create chaos.

they don't have the death penalty here in the UK but i think they should bring it back, but i think they shouldn't have to wait so long to do. Just for those people who are serving life sentences. It would also save a lot of tax payers money & would free up some space in prisons, cause they are becoming overly crowded.

The death penalty....it's pretty harsh. I mean, yeah, if you go out and kill someone, then you deserve some sort of punishment. But still...would someone else dieing make the family of the victim ANY happier? I highly doubt that. I understand the whole "Eye For An Eye" thing, but a life for another? It just doesn't make sense. Facts are, after somebody is killed, there is NO WAY to even it out. You can't just say "Hey! You killed my brother! I'll kill you!". How do you think the family members of the person put to death will feel? They won't like the fact you killed on of them either. You just will never meet on even terms ya know?

So....just don't do it? That's the most simple solution to the entire problem. Atleast, it is in my opinion.

I don't beleive in the death penalty. There's really no benefit from it, other than some kind of internal comfort knowing the person you hate has just died. That's as bad as murder, really.

People just don't have the right to destroy another's life.

Isn't that the reason the death penalty was established?

So that we could feel safe?

I mean, it isn't you up there...

we could be saving someone else's life by ending their life. is the life of a cold blooded murderer equal to the life of an innocent person who is just living life?
