When they return to their island at the end of kingdom hearts 2, they don't show us what happens with their families!!!!!!!!!!!!! Where is Sora's mom, and her insane worry about her son? Where are Riku and Kairi's parents?? They should have shown us. Are they dead or something? Or did the kids simply forget their families?!

Well I would assume that Sora's parents forgot he existed. After all, in CoM, the memory of everyone who knows him also gets changed.

As for Kairi, she only went away from the island for a bit. Perhaps a problem, but not enough to be unexplainable to her (adopted) parents.

Riku was getting old, so I assume his parents thought he just "left".

I don't think it really matters, the parents do not play a major part in the story. I know that in real life the parents would be worried, but this is hardly real life.

True, but it is a genuine question. I see no reason why we should not consider the answer.

Besides, KH is about friendship. Friendship goes hand iin hand with family. Family, parents.

Anyway, I suspect Sora's parents may be spoken about in BbS. It would make sense if he was somehow related to TAV (Terra, Aqua, Ven) as that would explain the lack of worry for the parents.

Not really anything I pondered before, but it would make sense to question how the parents would react to Sora and Riku being gone....for over a year. but it would make sense that when Sora's heart was restored, his parents would have remembered him right?

Maybe that's why there hasn't been a KH3 yet...he's still grounded and catching up on hw...

We may understand it more and I would assume after the kids got back to the Kiddie Island and reunited etc, they probably went home. After that is when they went back to the Kiddie Island later and looked at the bottle from King Mickey. So it seems some time elapsed and we can just 'assume' the two boys went home to catch up with their families. I am curious what they would say as to why they were missing over a year but maybe we'll see that in KH3 after these other games.

As for Riku being old and just leaving...I don't think a 15 year old disappearing is any less important than a 14 year old disappearing. I believe the reason Riku wasn't thought about is because of Namine doing what she did to Sora. Kairi and Selphie only dimly recalled Riku as some boy they used to see occasionally, not as a good friend they hung around with all the time. So it would seem that while some may have vaguely recalled Riku, he was in the same boat as Sora and not really remembered. Thus his parents probably didn't freak either. I get confused when people think Riku is so much older than Sora or Kairi. He's probably not even a full year older than them as it would be weird to have someone have the same birthday one year apart from two other people that they are best friends with.

Kairi's parents are all not worried, because she kind of.. goes back. <_<

In the beginning, you see them leaving a town. xD

    As for Sora...I dunno...

    Right again Repliku.

About Riku being older, I was grasping at straws. I had already delt with Kairi (was only off the island after Axel kidnap.) and Sora. (memory wrecked) Riku was the problem, so I assumed that his parents would be okay.

Besides, if you are a parent, and have both Riku and Sora as kids, and both of them go missing, the one you will be thinking "Oh no, oh dear, how will he survive?!" about is Sora. Right?

Not to mention that it could be possible that the children can leave when the feel ready, opposed to being imited to 18. After all, they do beat each other up with wooden swords. If that happened in this day and age, we would be hearing all about it. I do not think it is that far-fetched to imagine that a few more rules could be different.

the only things/people sora cares about are on Destiny Islands. Sora's parents were there for filler, so that he and his friends wouldnt look weird and be easier to relate to, somewhat...
If SRK's parents were important, then there would at least be a cutscene where their faces are shown or a cutscene where they talk about something important to the plot line.

    so yes,

we can assume they are dead.

Hmm? I fail to see the jump between "they have extremely minor roles" and "They are dead"

I am still going with the theory that

Kairi: Was away for a day/short period of time. She was otherwise always on the island when her parents were on it.

Riku: His parents had their memories muddled, like Sora.

Sora: Parents had their memories muddled.

It makes more sense, sort of. Well, it is more canon than a simple "they are dead" Remember, Sora locked the keyholes, and restored the worlds.

I meant that they are "as good as dead" because they arent that important...besides, everyone regains their memories, even after being tied with sora...(kh2fm+ cutscene...)

I used to do that. >.> When I was growing up we'd go out and play with sticks as swords and say they were lightsabers or some medieval movie thing. Oh, the good old days when parents let kids be kids and disciplined them for the 'right' reasons but still let them play. I feel so old saying that. Of course, my friends and I didn't really do that at the house though. We kind of ran off into the woods by the house or at the playground at the school on weekends or after school so now that I think about it...my parents probably didn't know. lol

My guess is that the parents got their memories edited to make it seem like like Sora never left.

    Heh.

But did you hit each other with them until one of you was unconscious? Eh.

Well it does not matter that much, as you've found a point that works.

Plotwise, the family will never been seen again. But they are not as good as dead, or else Sora/Riku would be emotionally damaged.

LOL I never thought of this. Square wasn't too good at explaining the role of the parents.

Well of course we weren't beating ourselves to unconsciousness but neither did those kids. However, explaining all of those bruises from actual sword hits would be interesting. We always just went to clash with the weapons; not each other. After all, imagination isn't supposed to hurt too bad!

I do think the parents may not be seen as well, but might be mentioned. However, I agree that they are probably alright or else the boys would be pretty upset and it would be a hard burden to cope with. They'd both in their ways feel quite responsible. I'm pretty sure with the ending of KH2 though that the parents are fine because neither of them seem stressed out and it appeared in KH1 at the end and KH2 that Kairi had just resumed her life living with her adopted family with the mayor (and wife presumably) so I think it's safe to say their parents are fine but Nomura really doesn't want to focus on them as much as the 3 characters themselves.

His parents would have remembered him, everyone who had contact Sora had their memories rearranged again.

The Mayor must have been freaked out for sure.

and Riku was 15 in the incident, they would just let a 15 year old leave home without a word or munny?
