At the last episode Ed dies, then his brother that was the Philosophers's Stone, brought in life him giving in change the entire Philosophers's Stone / his body, but Ed didn't want to loose his brother, also because Al (His brother) was for 3 years in an armor, 'cause his sould was tied with it, and he wanted to make Al happy to have again his body, so Ed gave in change his body, obtaining his brother's, but he didn't give his soul, so it went to another dimension, and in the film Al finds a way to bring him back.
