Telling people to do or not do things during internet awards can also come off as obnoxious.
Just drop it and have fun.

That also bothered me... But Misty liked it, so it got in.

I am hoping to inspire her to earn nominations instead. Even if it is obnoxious, my success would mean that two wrongs made a right in this case.

I only brought it up because she said she didn't really expect it to work. Wouldn't it be a disservice not to alert someone to the fact that they are harming their reputation for no reason?

I mean, I get it kind of.
But we've already got smartest, strangest, nicest, and all that. Don't those determine uniqueness?

You seem to think people are not self aware. You do not need to inform them of everything.

Then let them discover it themselves. Telling people, forcing them to know is not going to make thme learn anything.

If you were forced to learn something at school, do you learn it?

Yeah because I was inspired to.
They're saying, "Learn this, you have to."
I say "****in okay man sounds all right."

If you're forced to learn something you still learn it. That's what force means.

Oh btw, edit: I'm not supporting that. It's true, though.

In other words, I should be less forceful and more of a guiding force?

You are right. I will try to be less forceful the next time I give advice.

You force religious knowledge on to children?

It's not the best way to lead them to an individual realisation if you just tell them, you have to lead them to the answer by giving them the tools to use.

Man, I'm an athiest. But I'm not biased. Knowledge is knowledge. Know about what you have. I'm not telling them to be Christian, I'm reaching them about Christianity. Oh, and by forcing, I don't call them obnoxious, that's what I meant by not supporting what Kaze did. But I can't say, "dear friend mind, mind reading this verse?". You have to tell them to do it, or they won't unless they're initially interested. But you don't have to be interested in something to know about it. That's silly. People would be so closed-minded.

And! I agree with you. But it's not the only way. And if a kid's troublesome, there needs to be an exchange of knowledge. Or they won't learn.

I genuinely think Makaze was helping. She learned, for sure. Was he rude? Yeah. I'm not defending that. I'm saying that forcing doesn't have to be mean and it's a way to spark interest.

    Well...
Speaking from experience from having a Catholic education, it was pretty much forced. In the sense of 'Learn about Jesus and the Bible if you want to graduate'.
    /2 cents

I missed the forum awards the last time they were held.

Hate to say, but I side with him here.

The problem I have with compulsory education is based in the fact that there are many options, and forced education means that those options are being limited. If the child is not being forced to believe one of them, then they are subconsciously coming to a point where they only see the options you laid out.

False dichotomies expressed in adulthood often come from being taught the "wrong way" and the "right way" during childhood. Even those who rebel against the path chosen for them will choose the "wrong way" because they have been trained not to think of other options.

Why do you hate to say?

Anyway, I agree kinda.Forcing it isn't optimal at all. But it isn't bad. Knowledge has to go down. If you don't push the entire thing on them, they might be sparked to learn more. And that's what's important. Niceness is important, but you must teach. And that's a way.

Because I like you, and if you happened to be a closet religious person, I would have been offending you.

I consider leaving some books out and telling a kid where to find them to be as much teaching as necessary unless it is a complex problem. Like with mathematics.

It is nearly always better to ask questions than to give answers. A practice I need to reinstate in myself.
