    Hello バレリ~さん~!

    If it
was me I would probably be under a tree or a slide waiting for it to stop until I get bored and just run home in the rain... probably a slide though, it keeps the water out. :| I hope she's alright.

Yeah we have another writer for SO:FA.

How the Kayci sketches coming along, Sai?

I've been brushing up my spriting skills and have started spriting one of the enemy characters people will face early on in the game. I'm good at people/character animation but I really need to work on my special fx spriting...blah.

My internet crashed horribly few hours ago, which explains my absense....Took that time to clear off my computer o some junk to make it (hopefully) run faster.

For musick, my brother has FL Studio. We could share possibly. I'd have to find a way to zip it up and send it your way, Rainbow.

Wow, how juvenile, I think I laughed for about a minute after I realized the initials can be read as sofa.

Anyway it's going good, I'm sorry I meant to scan them last weekend but I was sick so I could go and abuse the use of a printer at my dad's house.

    Just doing
a little cleaning up now on the computer actually. It seems although I love my tablet, paper and pencil is the best for sketching ideas and poses. Maybe it's just being able to see it fully and see exactly where the pencil is. Only problem things can be easily off places and miss portioned. Oh well, that's what photoshop is for

    I won't
do full clean lineart, but I will go over it, then we make some changed if necessary, then I can do lineart and see if anything is amiss, then finally colours~

    I love
    colouring, so fun.

    Oh yea,
do you want more realistic hair colouring or hair more like the Sai in my sig? The Sai type would be a bit faster, but then the realistic is just as fun and more...realistic-ish.

    I don't
know if I'm making sence, sorry if I'm confusing anyone.

That's fine. Haha. I was just making sure you weren't getting overwhelmed or anything, and if you were I was going to help you a bit (and shirk my spriting responsibilities...whoo!).

As for the colouring/shading method, that's up to you. Whatever you want to make consistent throughout the art for the game. It may be easier on you to take a simple route so you won't be working double on things. Once I get your style down, I'll be able to mimic it into Flash animation, so I'm going to study how you do each character before attempting to make the anime cutscenes with the flash team. Really, I like giving EkIchi artists some flexibility when it comes to style. I can go with whatever.

Anything looks great to me as long as it is consistent.

Alright then, I guess I will go with something just a bit more detailed than the Sai-sig one, that would be easier for different types of hairstyles as well.

    Anime
    cutscenes huh? Sounds awesome~

    Kinda like
    the newer Tales openings?
    Tales of Symphonia
(O_o for once the English opening music is better)
    Tales of Innocence

Yes, something akin to that. I'll most likely be doing frame by frame animations rather than relying upon things like...oh god brain fart can't remember....uh...motion tweens, yeah. I'll be combining flash with photoshop most probably to do the animations. I'm learning environments right now, so pretty soon I'll have some experience in layeing backgrounds to get that movement effect.

Characters will be done frame by frame in flash to make sure the movement is smoothe as a skeleton animation, exported to photoshop for CG colouring and effects, then back into flash to render animations. If we can get a hold of more experienced 3D modelers, we could easily do 2d/3d smashup scenes. My knowlege of animation is limited to 2D I'm afraid, for now.

I'm learning 3D as best I can though.

Quite possible a 3D background with 2D characters could prove interesting

    Anyway yea,
frame by frame is best way to go. If you want some help setting up key frames, I know a bit about that, and I'll be practicing it soon enough when the holidays come (next weekend)

    If you want
a bit of info on key-frames and the stuff inbetween, I can tell you what I know as of now, and I'll be sure to help with whatever I can once I learn some more by practicing.

Aye. And 3D-ness would look AWESOME for the spaceship scenes and huge mech monsters in animated cutscene form. For serious.

It'd be great to work together and share some knowlege, and I'm all up for learning as much as I can. I love being taught new methods, and God knows you have helped me much on colourization and drawing just from a few tutorials.

That would be so EPIC, I would love to see that.

    Sure thing.

    Let's see
... as far as I know, key frames make animating things a LOT easier. Depending on the animation is question, it's a frame about 5 or 7 frames appart of the last key frame, and so on. inbetween you map the movements with, well I just use lines, it's easiest. Anyway, lets say I had a girl swinging a sword and it goes from top left of the screen to center, I would draw her in sketch from holding it up at the top, and another (usually in a different colour at the end of her swing (and more if there is more to the animation after that)

So now I have two frames planned, what is next, is since the sword is the main focus, and the main thing moving, I would draw a surved line in the motion of how she swings it from the tip of the first sketch to the tip of the second one. Next is labeling the frrames

....And I'm gonna have to probably draw something to explain this. Words don't quite work for what I'm trying to say.

Hang on, I'll see if I can draw something up.

Yeah i think I get what you're saying, but some visuals will definately be of help.

You're saying that for an animation you like to draw the critical points of the animation, such as the START and END of the swing, then map out the motions in between, then go back in and detail them out, right?

Pretty much yea, once you've got the key frames, tthe inbetween should go a little easier, and basically if you have it all planned out from start to finish, it should more or less turn out how you want it.

I've actually never thought about it that way before...and yes, that should definately help with most scenes indeed. I'll be posting the animation tutorials you and I do on my forums so the animators can learn from it as well.

I actually have a few scenarios in mind anime-wise for SOFA <---haha sofa.

Yep, it's a pretty nifty trick to get ti to flow nicely.

    Alright
I've got something drawn up, it's sketchy, but it'll serve it's purpose. Just excuse the weird anatomy and kinda failed perspective.

    http://i515.photobucket.com/albums/t353/Razzu_Art/FramesKey.jpg

So basically what the line is for, is planning where the frames will be, less frames, quicker actions if each frame is set to the same time.

Therefore, the start of the swing is slow, because of perspective mostly(hah, I learned things like speed of movement when considering perspective from Higurashi) then it moves into a faster motion because it's closer now

    After you
have that, planning the frames should be to hard. after I practice I'll see if I can maybe make a tutorial.

Thanks for the information and tips. This will help..well, a heck of a lot when making things animation-wise for those action-filled cutscenes. Sketch looks great honestly. I never knew it about the animation getting closer - quicker and less-stuffed-together frames until now. That will really come in handy for my practice.

I shall runs off and spread the knowlege I have gained!!! Mwahaha. Knowlege is powah.

You're quite welcome, I'll try to get into more details once I actually know more about what I'm doing with it. Glad to be able to help, if you have any questions about animations, feel free to ask, I may not be able to answer everything, but I'll do what I can.

    That it is~
