The Affinities

Jo was about to growl something more and chuckled at Ariana's words. "Who could ever forget. My partner in crime." she gave the girl a kind smile and snarled to Jellal, "I don't need help. I'm perfectly capable on my own." Jo let her magic slowly recharge from the fire's warmth around her and shot off a few more bullets at soldiers trying to stand after Ariana's assult.

 

Ariana laughed once more. It was weird-she was laughing while hey were fighting more then she had in years... It felt like some weight was finally coming off her chest... The gult was starting to fade while she was killing these Bastards....

 

Jo's vision blurred breifly and she stumbled near Ariana. Blinking her eyes rapidly, Jo hauled herself up and growled like some sort of dragon. "I won't...lose! Fire Dragon Iron Fist!" Again, fire covered her fists and she launched herself at a group of soldiers, demolishing them and creating a large hole in the ground from her attack. Jo wobbled and fell over, her lack of food, drink and rest exhausting her. Her magic wasn't as charged as she thought and her attacks depleting it faster than normal spells. Fire Dragon spells took a large amount of magic to use and a lot of stamina from her.

 

"Jo!" Ariana shouted in fear. She felt her heart stop for a minute as she saw her friend fall. She rushed to help her up. They needed to get out of there-now. ****. ****. ****! "Jell!" Ariana shouted. "We need to get out of here!,"
She felt so scared... so very very scared. "Please Jo," She whispered to her friend. "Hold on..."

 

Jellal groaned as the soldiers began to surround them. "You go. I'll hold them off for as long as i can." He said as he scorched an approaching soldier.

 

Ariana couldn't help but hesitate. "What about you?" She said.

 

"Don't worry about me, I'll be fine. He said as he turned to give a confident smile, though he was only doing it to hide the fact he was scared to death. "Now go! we don't have much time..."

 

Jo snored as she slept. Her body needing to recharge. Her stomach growled persistently and her tanned face scrunched up in her sleep.

Jo's dream consisted of her hometown. The flowers of spring were in full bloom. Pinks, whites and blues popped out at her from every direction and she smiled. Back then, she'd worn a nice short yellow sundress and sandles. Her Master, one Mr. Igneel, lived in a cave along the mountain she was going to. The problem, her Master was a real Fire Dragon. She adored him. It was this faithful day when she was returning from a rather disappointing appointment with her Master to home that she found Igneel speared and being hacked apart in the middle of her town. Her red eyes widened with anger and grief. "What have you done!? IGNEEL!!" No one listened to her and her emotions controlled her magic, setting the entire town on fire. Before her eyes, friends, family and neighbors burnt to crisps and she mourned only for Igneel.

Ariana, while Jo was a sleep-leaning on her shoulder, ran away from the battle-leaving Jell behind. Please don't die! She prayed as she ran... please God don't let Jell die.... She ran until she reached near the tunnels. She looked and finally she spotted someone she knew. "Ulrich!" She shouted in an attempt to get the boys attention.

Jo's dream turned into a nightmare as the burning village turned into the simple image of her Master burning inside it. She screamed and cried until her throat closed and her eyes were swollen shut.

 

Jellal took a deep breathe as the soldiers closed in. There where probably hundreds of them and he was alone. Suddenly he found himself wishing Andrew were there, but he wasn't. I've got to win this...if i don't they'll catch everyone. With that thought, he focused all his magic into a single spell. Bright golden flames engulfed his body as he seemed to disappear and reappear elsewhere, taking out a few men, and repeating. He was actually letting bursts from his feet to give himself supersonic speed. He was truly a sight to behold, a golden blur of fire, racing across a battlefield. This was the first time he had actually used this type of magic but it worked splendidly. A storm of bullets raced towards him but he was actually able to avoid them. His bod felt so light and free. "Come on! is that it?" He yelled to the soldiers, who at this point were ready to turn tail and run if they were all like this. But After a while, Jellal felt a sort of tugging in his stomach. He was running low on magic power. Delivering blow after blow to the soldiers had worn him out, but he wasn't about to show it.

 

Ulrich heard Ariana's cry and swiftly turned. He ran towards Ariana and the unconscious Jo. "This is the second time she fell asleep on us," Ulrich quipped. He turned his gaze back to Ariana. "You and Jo are exhausted, it appears," he said with some seriousness. The earth-user studied Ariana's face as best as he could. "What's wrong?" Ulrich asked, his tone genuine.

As soon as Ulrich finished his question, he heard Jo cry. If it weren't for her exhaustion, she would've woke up from the nightmare she was trapped in. Trapped within a nightmare, unable to waken... what a sad girl... he thought.

 

Ariana breathed heavily. "Can... You ... Help Me... Carry her..." She said. "Can't breath... Having Asthma.. Does not help..."

 

"I can do one better..." Ulrich remarked, grabbing Jo and lifting her in his arms. "Just take it easy and follow me..." he told her, already heading back towards the tunnels.

 

Ariana nodded and bowed her head slightly. She followed him-grateful.

 

Everything in Jo's mind faded to black and the simple image of her Master turned backwards into memories of him teaching her her magic. "Remember...everything you do from now on with this magic, affects all Fire Dragons. Don't let us down, Jo. We're putting our faith in you to keep our names untarnished by human slander." She'd nodded and vowed to keep them safe. She'd failed...and everyone in her home had paid for it. She'd killed them...and then the government came to investigate. A single girl, living alone in a burnt down town didn't look good to them and she was forced to kill them too.

 

The soldiers kept coming, one right after another. Jellal put everything he had into this spell and was running short on energy. He could feel his heart pounding in his chest and his legs were burning. one of the soldiers finally got in a lucky shot and hit him in the ankle. he rolled across the ground and slammed into a rock. His ankle writhed with pain. The humans were getting closer. Was this the end of the line? He couldn't let it end. Not here! Not now! he slowly staggered up to his knees as the commander stood before him. "well now...finally gotcha huh? you gave us quite a bit of trouble you little punk!" He said, driving his fist into Jellal's face.

 

Dust accumulated around Ulrich as he paused at the tunnels. He knelt down, laying Jo flat against the wall. "The man that was with you," he muttered. "Where is he?" Ulrich asked, glancing at Ariana.
