IT'S OK FOR COMIC BOOKS TO NOT BE COMPLETELY REALISTIC.

I've had enough Dark Knight Rises and Man of Steel. Nobody did Watchmen better than Watchmen so they can just stop now.

Doom is actually a legit last name in real life though. Seriously, look it up I am not kidding. So him having the name "Victor von Doom" is totally legit.
I implied but didn't want to assume.
    Amen.

Haven't we been over the whole "realism =/= believability" thing in another thread? It is pretty realistic that his surname could be Doom. As burnitup noted, Doom is an actual surname. However, I find it hard to believe that an ultra-dangerous supervillain rises out of a family that just so happens to have the most perfect surname for a supervillain ever AND that his parents made his forename go so well with his super evil surname that he doesn't even have to change it to strike fear into the hearts of his enemies. The probability of that happening is unbelievably low.

Rule of comic books: If your name sounds like anything you are destined to become a supervillain.

Unless your name is Peter Parker. Then you become a photographer/superhero just to rebel against your late father's dream of having you run the family valet business.

You forgot his superhero life causing his friends and loved ones to die all around him or become supervillains.

I find it works pretty well because I've already accepted that somehow spatial anomalies give a group of four people superpowers. Someone's name is the least of my worries: the fact that the new Doom is potentially some wimpy blogger is what gets my jimmies rustled.

I don't mind the new name, but I see no good reason to change it besides wanting to try separating the fact that the film comes from a comic book.

I was about to say that I didn't make a Final Fantasy film. But then I read the thread.
