    Hardly anyone online and only about five or six threads with new posts since my last visit at 12:14 AM, all of which were threads I was interested in, so they've all been read.

    Half the people who come here are probably at school.

    As for me, I don't get up until 11 anyway.

    Yes, I take that into account; even with that, there are usually more people online now and more new posts when I get on in the morning.

    So I'm upset -- or, at least, was.

    As most of you know, I have GED class Monday - Thursday; those days I'm usually on from whenever I get on until around 9:50 AM, then from around 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM for lunch and then from around 2:00 PM to whenever I go to bed.

    Well, I couldn't get on again today until around 5:30 PM because of a statewide Internet outage with Charter that happened sometime after I left for class in the morning (statewide is what my mom heard, so not 100% sure on that part). It came back around 5:00 PM, but I had to pick up my mom from work then.

    Let's see why there was an outage, shall we? Oh, I know! Idiot people not doing their jobs right! Although my mom disagrees and says that nothing's infallible, I like to blame all problems on humankind. Like in RollerCoaster Tycoon when rides break down, don't they break down because of human error?

    I think I might have depression but I don't tell anyone because I'm afraid that if I go to a psychiatrist it'll turn out that I'm right and I don't want to take antidepressants.

    Same.

    Actually I don't know if that counts as a secret or if that's common knowledge for me.

    Secret: I hold immense dislike of gore and it's mainly the reason why I haven't touched The Walking Dead yet, even though I know I'm missing out on the experience. ;~;

    This is actually a misconception about therapy in general. You are not likely to just get put on anti-depressants unless you show signs of and are proven to be clinically depressed. If it's a depression that has a definitive root cause, a depression that's only fairly recent, or even a seasonal depression, you will probably just undergo regular therapy sessions where you talk about and get to the roots of the causation, and then undergo different methods (depending on both what perspective the psychiatrist subscribes to and the perspective they believe will best suit you yourself), and go on from there. If there is no clear or just very little improvement, then and only then would they give you the anti-depressants to use -- and even then, it starts off as a relatively small dosage. If there are side effects from the medicine you are not comfortable with or are making you feel really bad, you can always tell them that and, if they're competent, they will see if you could work with some other medicine or keep trying without it.

    It's definitely not a perfect psuedo-science, and in the end it does come down to whether the psychologist/psychiatrist in question is good at their job, but I believe that generally there is no need to fear being forced into taking anti-depressants against your will (or fear of them in general).

    Psuedo-science is stuff like astrology and ancient alien theory, not psychiatry.

    Oh derp. I didn't want to say regular science since it's clearly not, and couldn't think of the right term at the time. "Social science" is the one I was looking for.
