So what are you guys going to be doing for Thanksgiving? My family usually has a visit from one of my grandmas in Wisconsin, but this year we're heading over to a friend's house for Thanksgiving. I don't mind, just as long as I get that yummy mashed potatos, gravy, cranberry sauce, and of course Cranberry Apple Bread.
We spend the morning eating donuts for breakfast and watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, then we cook and clean and get everything ready, then at 2:00 a whole bunch of friends show up and we eat a feast that took most of the week to cook, and we leave everything out for hours and everybody eats as much as they want. Then we just hang out, talk, maybe play board games, until everybody leaves. We clean up, and the day is done. Then we eat leftovers for as long as they last.
Yeah, we watch the parade as well, but there's never really much going on, and they always cut out the good music. Not too mention how many times they go to a commercial. Our leftovers don't last very long though. usually only like 3 or 4 days
This is actually gonna be my first Thanksgiving in the States. We had a small-scale Thanksgiving meal back home, but that's it. I'm gonna be with my grandparents and uncles family down in southern Illinois. Dunno about the traditions, but they probably won't be exactly the same, since my cousin had spinal surgery earlier this week, so we have to work around her.
It's celebrated in the United States and Canada. In the United States, its celebrating arriving in America for the first time. It's celebrated every fourth Thursday in November. Not sure about Canada, because I don't live there. I'm fairly certain they celebrate their own Thanksgiving in October. I'm just going to my grandparents house, having dinner, and watching TV over there for maybe an hour or two. As long as we get potatoes of some sort, I'm happy. :P Oh, and pumpkin pie, too :D!
Probably nothing much. Sometimes we do nothing. Sometimes family comes over and we argue a lot and eat. Most times we can't afford enough food. So it runs out in about an hour and little Jayn only had a piece of ham... /ANGST No, but seriously. It depends. I've had really good Thanksgivings before. But lately they've been blah. Nothing much.
I have to work, but it's the only way I can guarantee Christmas and Christmas Eve off. Oh well, I'll just eat after my shift.
I already had thanksgiving. But I didn't do anything but eat turkey and that delicious stuffing, yum, can't get enough of it.
In Canada we celebrate the harvest on the second Monday of October. It's a good day because there's rarely any snow, so the crops don't get damaged. That being said, my dad's American, so we might celebrate Thanksgiving Thursday as well. It'll give us an excuse to use that ham...
We usually just kind of sit around, chitchat, and then eat. The Packer game will be on. Kind of your run of the mill American Thanksgiving. Love me some stuffing and mashed potatoes and gravy.
Heh, of course there's a Packer game on. If my brother were at home that'd be one of the first things he'd do
I always thought Halloween got you more fat thank Thanksgiving. After all, I only eat a good amount of Mashed Potatos, some Turkey, and plenty of Cranberry Apple Bread and Cranberry Sauce.
Miaulement got it mostly right, but with one thing missing, why it's called thanksgiving. Thanksgiving (at least, in America) started out as a day to give thanks for all good things. The pilgrims and the Indians worked together to get a huge feast, mainly using what was available to them at the time, like turkey and corn and potatoes, so those are traditionally served at most thanksgiving meals. The pilgrims and Indians ate together, and gave thanks for their new home and new friends, for new begginings and the provision of all the food. So that's why it's called thanksgiving. I know, right? all that candy... :P But really, I kind of understand where Program is coming from. On Halloween, yeah, I eat a lot of candy, but I always pace myself to make it last. On Thanksgiving, I just stuff myself with all the great food, and then I wash it down with a lot of gravy. ;D I love gravy! And that's pretty fattening.
I'll be doing The Walk to Feed the Hungry with my mom and a few of her friends in the morning. Then I'll be heading over to my grandpa's house to have dinner and such. Nothing too exciting.
