So I had a question about Earth and Land over here.
Because of the Lingering Sentiment's speech in KH2:FM+, people started thinking that Terra chose Riku to be the next Keyblade Master. I always disagreed with this because I didn't find LS saying "You're not the one I chose," and Terra meeting Riku sufficient evidence to say that.

Now I'm more positive that it's not true.
Aqua's the only out of the three who made it to the rank of Master. Eraqus failed Terra because he can't control his darkness (which wasn't really his) and Ven was too young. Granted, this means Terra did have the potential to be Master, but was cheated out of it. However, I still don't see any connection to him and the Kingdom Key.
Vanitas had the X-Blade which supposedly made the Kingdom Key and Inverse Kingdom key after AQUA breaks it. Ven was possessed by Vanitas when he had the X-blade. And finally, Ven went into Sora at the end of BBS.
So yeah, Terra met Riku and COULD have been Keyblade Master, but he still had no connection to the Kingdom Key.
So where's the evidence that he chose Riku to be wield it?

Well how did Riku get the kingdom key in the first place? I mean if you think about it, with Vanitas, Ven and Soras's connection, Sora should have had the keyblade instead of Riku. And yet somehow Riku ended up with it but eventually the keyblade went to Sora. Vanitas must share an unseen connection with Riku. They have the same fighting style, and suit. But Terra's selection of Riku might have something to do in the matter as well. Otherwise why even show that scene at all, unless it has some importance.
Well from the Gathering video from way back when, it makes it look like he does as Terra is the one who picks up that keyblade.
Though this quite possibly could signifies their BBS ending locations
Aqua- Realm of darkness - Dark realm keyblade
Terra- Realm of Light- Light realm keyblade
Ven- Between light and darkness, but coming towards light- Light realm keyblade

I don't think it's the Kingdom Key or any particular Keyblade Riku or Sora was chosen to wield...if Terra was meant to wield Eraqus' keyblade, then he'd be wielding it but he's not...I mean, Aqua can wield it, but I don't think her being a keyblade master has anything to do with it...

Let's take Mickey for example...He was chosen and trained to wield the keyblade and we know now that in the past that he wielded the Star Seeker Keyblade...however, when we look at it now he wields Kingdom Key D (aka Darkside)...

I don't think one keyblade chooses one particular master, the keyblade seems somewhat indifferent in that regards...

And besides, if any single keyblade chose one particular wielder, then I'd never win any of these games lol

perhaps the keyblade is like the Elder Wand from Harry Potter. Whoever kills a keyblade master wields their keyblade unless the keyblade chooses someone else

I personally think that the keyblade chooses whoever has the stronger heart in the area. I mean like in kh1 Riku took it away cause he believe that that he had the strongest heart but in the end Sora had the stronger heart.

    Meh.

    Something to think about:

What did Terra mean by "you're not the one I chose"? Was it stated that, as a master, Terra chose Riku to be the next keybearer as his rightful judgement of a master? Judging from an english subtitled translation of the scene where he met the boy (likely a hack translation, but it's something), I'm not so sure.

Terra saw both Sora and Riku on Destiny Islands, yet seemed to take a higher interest in Riku. He said for him to become a master, and he'd show him how wide the world really is. I think that he was just surprised that Sora was the one who became the keyblade master, and left Destiny Islands.

Terra did choose Riku. It was quite clear after watching that cutscene near the end of Terra's chapter when Terra entered Destiny Islands and met Riku. He asked Riku to touch his Keyblade and said that he could become a Keyblade Master himself and come visit someday. However, over time, Riku's desire to escape the islands (and hatred for the islands, as pointed out by Zexion) was so strong, darkness found its way into his heart. Thus the Keyblade passed to the next able person with strong light in their heart, Sora.

Terra didn't become a master according to Eraqus, but Xehanort filled his head with the idea that he was of master level and even calls him Master Terra after the fight with Braig.

    Spoiler warning I guess

he did not choose riku, he see's he might have potential in wielding a keyblade but he didn't take a poke-ball and said riku I choose u, there's a difference. and besides he told riku so he would choose a the path of light and wield a keyblade someday, in the en he almost ended up like Terra... almost! also I hate it when people go on saying then sora isn't the main character, it's riku! that really sucks balls u know... -_-

I agree, even Yuffie said it herself in the first game

    ya'll just got PoWnEd!

Well, from what I gathered is there is something he also did see in Riku, he did see his "other form" which should seem familer...

It showed evenutally that he did choose the darkness and took the form of Ansem..but that might just be nothing.
