A few friends have been bothering me to watch it; this is your opportunity to convince me that Naruto is actually a show worth watching.

    Why I don't watch it:
-from what little I've seen, the main character is obnoixous and annoying
-from all accounts, it does not display an accurate representation of ninjitsu
-the main character has some kind of strange cat whiskers/fox whiskers on his face
-my current stalker and my ex-boyfriend (two different people) both want me to watch it

    Why I should watch it:
    -....?

the boy naruto is only about 12 at the start, hes annoying because hes a teenager and wants to impress.

i dont think its meant to be a true representation of ninjutsu
it is based on a legend

its a brilliant anime, I love it myself after one of my friends got me hooked.

The anime is good, though your point 3 and 4 aren't really a reason not to watch the show. If your not a fan of long running series's then it's not for you, but if you watch it I reccomend cutting out the fillers, overall they ruined the first part of Naruto for me, but in Part 2 (Shippuuden) Naruto isn't annoying, he has matured and the series has generally got better now.

The better question would be "Why should'nt I wacth Naruto?" because overall it is an awesome anime. Just give it a chance and you may or may not like it.

Oh yeah! And if you want to watch Naruto episodes then go on youtube and type in "Naruto episode 1 english" and so on.

My friends are also trying to get me to watch it, o__o but I can't seem to stand long fight scenes. (I've seen a bit of Naruto on TV and my attention span quickly left a few minutes into watching them fight.)
o__o And now I only watch it for Akamaru.
    (Or rather, try to watch.)

Does Naruto have the crazily-long extended multi-episode battles that Yu Yu Hakusho had? I sat through all 112 YYH episodes because I loved the characters; does Naruto have the same crazy-long "tournament" story arcs that seemed to make up all of YYH?

And Darkandroid: what exactly do you mean by "fillers"... are there a lot of those kind of episodes?

Yes, Naruto made a stupid choice of going on a filler season for about a year, giving time for the manga to pull away. This was because the manga has a two-year gap in its timeline, which has just started in the anime in the middle of February.

As of now, there are a crapload of episodes to watch if you ever decide you want to pick up Naruto now, and I highly suggest you don't unless you reason out that:

    a) No, it's actually the most far-fetched interpretation of the Ninja culture, but it's hell of a lot of fun to watch.
    b) The hero can be quite annoying and obnoxious, but the dynamics of a multitude of other characters in the show/manga and how Naruto interacts with them makes it more enjoyable to watch.
    c) Yes, some battles go on for a few episodes, and not all of them are good. Being a 200+ episode series so far, not everything is going to be great. I'd suggest not watching the fillers, (which start sometime around the 150s or 160s I believe) and just go straight to the new season. That saves you about 60-70 episodes. Haha.

You should really give the show a try, Jade. The first few episodes are just introductory one's, obviously, but after a few episodes everyone is thrust into the Exams and there's a lot of fights. The most I'd say a battle drags out is about 2/3 episodes max (at least at the Exams, anyway) but you'll get one's which are finished in the same episode they started.. It gets better every episode, apart from when it's filler.. If you do decide to, look at this small guide thing so you know when to avoid filler (it'd save you a hell of a lot of time, there are like 80+ filler eps)

The canon episodes are eps 1 to 135, with the exception of episodes 26, 101-106 which are filler. After the final canon episode (135) the rest are filler: episodes 136 to 220.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and if you do decide to watch it, I'd go for the sub episodes. The dubs SUCK.. but if you are the kind of person who is too lazy to read subtitles, then the crappy dubs are for you :] even though they are only on episode 80-something so far

Fillers are episodes that don't need to understand the basic storyline, so they are random stories/episodes that don't help move the storyline along. One or two are ok but when a good 70 episodes are filled with them, with no advance in the story at all it gets boring.

And ロクサス I agree with everything you said.

HA! I'll put my opinion in here.

    1. Naruto might be hecka annoying in the begining (and stupid), but as the show progresses, you can see his strength and intelligence of the ninja world develope and grow. Well, I guess it had better, since it's a darn long show. :P
    2. The characters are all unique, and it's...disturbing/entertaining watching Orochimaru...who is like a Michael Jackson twin. :D Also, some characters (like Haku) are really guys who look like girls who say they're guys. -_- Yeah, I still don't think I'll ever get used to that.
    3. There are emo kids aplenty in this show, if that's you're style. If not, there's always those girly girls, tom boys, cool dudes, and idiots to entertain you. It's very well rounded. :P
    4. It might seem like just a fighting anime, but it goes much deeper than that. It shows how cruel the world can be, and how not everything can go perfectly. There are some tear-jerker scenes (didn't make me cry, but ALMOST), and some lol scenes (sometimes all smushed together) to have an actual reason for a fight...most of the time. :P
    5. Naruto isn't just about Naruto (wow). It focuses on other character's relationships with each other, their emoness(sorry, couldn't help myself), and their basic past. Most of them are actually preeeeeeetty tragic.
    6. IT HAS RAMEN! Ramen rocks.
    7. The music is fantastic in my opinion. And it feels like I've just had Christmas again, with this whole new set of music for Shipuuden. Plus the opening and ending themes ROCK!
    8. It rocks. End of story, goodbye, the end.

    Any questions?

You should really watch it because it's not all just fighting. There are so many sad scenes, funny scenes, and just plain awesome fighting techniques. Sure, Naruto may be obnoxious now, but I hear he matures and gets better. Plus, it's kinda funny when he's obnoxious, and when he gets picked on. The fox whiskers have a purpose, and if you watch it from the beginning, you'll find out what that purpose is. Plus, he's not always annoying now, he has his serious parts too when he's younger. There are also cute guys on there too. *looks at avatar* Yep, cute. If this hasn't convinced you, I tried. I hope you do watch more than you already have. ^_^

I'd like to thank everyone who submitted reasons for my watching... I'll admit, I was reluctant, but you've all convinced me: as soon as I'm finished watching what's uploaded of Death Note, I'll start on Naruto... again, thanks to everyone!

Well I could name a few good reasons

    1=Its violent/suspense is okay
    2=Follows the story well...atleast until episode 128
3=characrter personalities change if you likt that kind of stuff
4=gives you a good chance of getting into anime although I know you already have

NUMBER ONE REASON WHY YOU SHOULDNT WATCH THIS

The amount of fillers that were preduced will have you ripping hair out of your head in an instant

    ...=o

I think its more whether you want too or not. I can say I didn't want to watch naruto because it was too mainstream but when I watch it again, I'm like "Wow...I forgot how wonderful this show is!" ((I watch the subs BTW))

and it doesn't HAVE to be accurate, I mean, so the ninjitsu is a little off, but its better than what I most see.

anyways, I'm not gonna tell you to watch it, but just say, do what you will. I mean, its all up to you, but you never know till you try.

[EDIT] x3 read your latest post, glad you devided to give it a show =] but the fillers a ... yeah. they get annoying, but just watch up to like 128 - seems a lot but it goes by xD then just jump over to Shippuden =]

Yeah, I don't like the dubs. They make Naruto SO annoying.
Those who were on the Kadaj family when I semi-ranted about it know what I mean. xD
I'm a fan of it, and trust me, watching the subbed version is LOADS better than the oh-so-obnoxious-sounding dub.
The character development is great, and you learn about all the characters' motives/history/stuff like that.

    ...I believe I was ranting...oops...^^'
But Naruto's definitely worth watching. :D

Well , have you seen the first episode ? If you haven't then watch it or read the book because you won't quite understand the rest of the shows , that is a mistake many new Naruto watchers make.

And plus well the main characters may act weirdly , but that is just the way the were made to be , you will have to get use it. I LOVE ITACHI , he's Sasuke's big bro , he ROCKS !!! :)

    I hate it because
-the previous and next time on Naruto are to long.
-the show has 3 long commercials.
    -it goes way too slow.
-theres like no fighting and alot of the episodes.
-Now im a different person WHY should I watch it??

Yeah, the fightscenes are long but... it's worth it for such a great anime. It reminds me of DBZ beause of how long they are. -_-'

But it's worth it in the end. :)
