My mom was trying to install a burner program last night, when her computer froze. She gave up and just shut it down via the power button. This morning, her computer wouldn't start. It gets to the black screen that appears during boot-up and it asks, "Boot from CD?" That means it crashed last night. She said it's also been acting weird before this. When she did the CTRL + ALT + DEL to get the Task Manager up in order to end programs, the desktop would just go blank.
Technology is silly or women don't understand machines? I think the latter. All sexist jokes aside, that sucks :/ my laptop itself is on its last leg.
We'll be taking in to Windy City Computers during her lunch hour. She backed up very recently, so she's not worried about files, but she believes that nothing was lost, she just can't access it. She was trying to get the burner installed because she wants to download Windows 8. Now, she can't even get Windows 7 reinstalled nor can she access System or System Image Restore. In that sense, I guess my computer's lucky. All it has is a rattling / noisy CPU fan problem. =P
