Don't jump right into listening to Japanese. It's still very confusing from the accent (since we're not used to it) and they say some things way different from what you might think.

Which is why I'd go with Soushi's advice and try some online stuff first. lol

I've tried teaching myself Japanese, and it does work to an extent. The only difficulties in it are not having something to reinforce what you're learning, and not having a tutor to ask, "Hey, am I doing this right?". Also, a lot of people aren't diciplined enough to keep studying on a regular basis. I know I stopped studying everyday like, a couple weeks after I started. It's really hard, but if you want to try it, I wish you luck! :D

Yeah, I tried that. I thought my brain would explode. It's easier with someone teaching you because you tend to go off, then forget. I should go back...

I don seem to have any particular problems. Given that the internet is filled with resources, you can learn lots of basic stuff on there. And you should definately buy some books or software that teachesthe language. But I'd say the best way to learn is to either ask a native to teach you or take a class.

Gambatte (I think that means good luck or something...dunno if I spelled it rite)

The watching anime and Kingdom Hearts is good for you to learn the pronunceation, and the Kanji chart is a big help, but it may also be good to find a few basic books, start with basic stuff, and don't give up, it's kinda hard but so is learning any other language different than the one you grew up with. Just remember to practice everyday and keep at it, I'm sure you can teach yourself with enough practice and determination.

From my experience, japanese is a VERY difficult language not because of the way it is, simply because you have to meorize a different alphabet. if if used the same letters as us, it would be alot easier. a good system to use, is have actions that you remember. like for kokoro, point to your heart or something.

You're not alone. I'm still learning japanese, along with my friend, who although is polish, knows full japanese fluently. She doesn't help me though... T-T

something that helped me was my brother is ... not straght and he watched Sukisyo with me ... well he told me to watch it with him. It is subbed and it helped me to understand the grammer aspect. I suppose it can't be any hjarder that learning french or german but I would sugget getting online lessons. I think it is easier to SPEAK japanesse than to WRITE in japanesse.
