I want to know how many people feel like it is stupid that parents talk to their babies like idiots. The only reason babies talk gibberish is because thats what they have learned from their parents.

So what are your opinions on this?

It is pretty stupid, but sometimes, babies mock what other people say or do so it sorta develops there brains if you'd like to say that.

Yes I do realize that, parents do sometimes say things that isn't in "baby talk" like when they try to teach them how to say mommy and daddy, so slowly they do learn.

and I believe that is just because he was trying to be like you

Younger people no matter how old really, want to be like someone older than them, example: 12 year olds and 15 year olds. The younger ones want to be like the older ones because they think they will seem more mature

the babies need time to adjust to real language. nothing wrong with baby talk. besides, it's kinda cute when they talk back like that :)

Baby talk does seem kind of annoying at times when I see adults talking to children like that to coax them to use the words that mean nothing at all when a baby could be learning real words and get on their way to successfully speaking instead of needing speech classes in school because parents neglected to do their parts early on.

However, I can see a merit to it, other than the adults thinking it's adorable that the baby says lame words to look cute for them. That would be that even if they are nonsensical words, learning to pronounce them can be good exercise for a young baby to do in order to work their vocal chords for bigger words. As long as the adult stops when the kid is good enough at it to learn better words, it did serve a purpose.

i think... its a good idea. 'baby talk' would be ok if they wernt old enough to bring it into their speech, it entertains them. but it is important, (i mean normal talk) or else they would never learn to speak. i also dont think that without speaking to babies, they could learn to speak on their own.

It's just because parents are overwhelmed by the ''cuteness''.Eh,there's nothing that can be done about it,so all anyone can do is just sit back and deal with it.

Actually, talking to babies is VERY usefull. Not only do they learn to talk, but it helps build a bond.

Language is not hardwired into the brain. That's why kids talk like their parents.

In my opinion, babies like the noises they find them soothing, comforting, and pleasant. So I encourage parents to talk to their babies. I also think that they learen when parents say "Say mama" or something like that. It also helps them adapt to speech. I do this to my friend's, older sister's, daughter and all she does is smile and giggle NOT CRY !!

I think that humans would develop much faster without "baby talk." It's true that it's necesary to talk to babies in order for them to learn, but they shoudn't talk down to them to such a degree. It would be fine if it wasn't in such an annoying manner. I believe that babies would be able to learn just fine if we spoke loudly and clearly. But since the "baby talk" method seems to work, we don't try anything new. And on the off chance that it won't work, nobody wants to try it.

It's especially annoyingsice people continue to do it when children are six years old, or even past that. If you've ever read "To Kill A Mockingbird" (even though it's fictional) the main charater is only seven and has a relatively advanced vocabulary. Thus is because her father speaks to her as if she is an adult.

That is true that adults sometimes take the 'baby talk' too far and if they stopped after the baby is capable of saying better 'real' words, it would raise the cognitive speaking and mental capabilities to develop in the child. Some people though really just have no clue and let it drag on maybe because they themselves aren't so good with speech or figure that there's a school system for doing the work for them. Keeping kids cute instead of smart seems to be a goal. I do feel it works perhaps for young that are just trying to mimic any sounds at all, but if people don't want dumb children with speech impediments, they should change up what they do with their children. Most children can speak pretty decently at age 3 if adults spend the time needed.
