Looking awesome. Love the designs of the landscapes shown so far. The game heavily involves dragons (as if the logo wasn't a clear indication). I'd like to see where this goes as far as the story, then. I usually instantly love most of Inomata/Fujishima's character designs in the Tales series, but I think the protagonist looks a bit...plain. But I heard there are two other animators from the series are working on this, too. This is probably early footage and he'll most likely grow on me. Meh. Ecstatic with all the Tales stuff coming our way, though.
.....well then I've never played the tales of series, never really even considered it, but this trailer just changed my mind. This will be purchased without a doubt, it looks like it could be a really good game to play o.o
If you like RPGs, you will LOVE the tales of series. in my opinion wait till Tales of Symphonia chronicles comes out for the ps3 in feb and start with that one. its the best one in the series in my opinion. Tales of Xillia & Tales of the Abyss are also out right now, also both VERY VERY good games. 5 of my top 10 fav games ever are tales of games. Trust me, play them, you will NOT be disappointed :)
A new Tales game? GIBE NAO Ooh boy I cannot wait for this! My thirst for JRPGs is always on a high (can't play Ys: MoC yet :c). Tales games never cease to disappoint me (well...except one of them...). I'm expecting either a late 2014/early 2015 release date for this game!
...Really? I understand how ToS is highly revered within the fanbase and is seen by some as the best in the series, but I really wouldn't recommend starting with Chronicles. It's just a lazy cash grab. There are so many issues that could have and should have been fixed, but weren't. It has a much lower FPS than the original version, it still has the awful spell queue, etc. The original GC or PS2 versions are much better. :/ I would recommend trying the likes of Tales of the Abyss for the 3DS (or PS2, but this version is laggy/buggy as hell) or Tales of Graces f/Tales of Xillia for PS3, and if you like what you're playing, you could maybe look into importing some of the JP only releases as there are some great games that never made it here.
I was watching this since they revealed the site with the book and the countdown and yada yada. I cant say much as of yet. Sure I'm glad another Tales game is being made and is getting a bigger fan base in the west, but for the PS3? By the time this is out, the PS4 will be out for a year already I assume, so why not start working for that. Perhaps they will later reveal that it'll be on both consoles. Graphics look nice. Cant say much for gameplay since it wasn't shown much. The emphasis on dragons could be cool/ It also looked Open World which is a BIG plus. As for games to try out, lets go over the list Phantasia: This is good if you want a challenge but I do not recommend starting with this game since it is long and hard and the AI will make you want to cry. Destiny: Only good if you play the PS2 version which still had its struggle. Eternia: Not recommended Destiny 2: I cant say since it was Japan only. Rebirth: Never played. Symphonia: This one is hard on me. I really love the story for this game, but the gameplay in my opinion was just so choppy and needed some more love and care. At least Symphonia 2 made up for it imo. Legendia: Don't. Abyss: Very much so yes. 3DS version is the better one however. This game is what got me into the series. The story is powerful, the battle system is near flawless, and is just enjoyable. My personal favorite to tell the truth. Innocence: It was Japanese only but there are translations. This game was good combat wise, but the story was just so hard to follow. I have hope that it'll get a PS Vita version over seas. Vesperia: This game was... meh. This pretty much was the most average game. You neither loved it or hated it. Hearts: Was never translated. Hoping the Vita version comes over seas. Has combat similar to Innocence and Abyss. Graces: DONT IMPORT THE WII VERSION. Graces F however is a wonderful game with a good story and controls that are much different than the past titles. Think El Sword like controls (If you know what the game is). It was challenging to grasp at first but eventually begins to shine. Xillia: The best controls in the series. A plot that can at times be over bearing but nonetheless is meaningful. Probably my second favorite in the series. The gameplay combines Graces Stamina system with the previous games Mana system. Xillia 2: Play Xillia first. This is also not translated yet but will be.
I agree with you on this all except for Symphonia being choppy in the gameplay, we gotta remember it was made for the GC :P. But beyond that ive seen gameplay of abyss on the ps2 & the compared to the 3ds it doesnt even match at all. 3ds runs so much smoother and load times r much better, and i love how the graphics on 3ds r better as well. SO glad i got abyss on the 3ds :D. and i also CANNOT wait for Xillia 2. its gonna be awesome. i also felt that the ending in XIllia was pretty bland and left me with more of a emptiness than anything else. but knowing theyre making Xillia 2 makes me feel better about it.
Man, it looks so bland. Then again, Tales' selling point was always that it was a very middle of the road JRPG, so can't really be too surprised. Buying fo' sho though.
The next Tales of game to be announced. The above trailer is the Second PV and of course is only in Japanese. The game is focused on dragons and seems to feature an open world. The main character is named Slay with other party members being Alicia (the girl with the flower), Edna (the young blonde), Lyla (The sky blue haired one), and Mikulio (The blue haired male who apparently cannot be seen by anyone other than Slay). The game does have one thing going for it that was kind of a shock to everybody, the game is getting a worldwide release date just like Pokemon X and Y did. That is fantastic for some fans of the series since we don't get the Tales games all the time. The release date is still unknown, but it would have to be in 2015 since this year NA is gets Tales of Xillia 2, Tales of Hearts R, and Tales of Symphonia: Unison. The game is to be featured on the PS3... amazingly not the PS4...
This news came about at the weekend, but I thought I'd give an update here. Third PV from the NicoNico stream; It's been revealed that Slay (and presumably any other human party members) can fuse with the Tenzoku (Divine Being) party members. The above trailer shows Slay fusing with Layla, the fire elemental Tenzoku. It reminds me of Kingdom Hearts' drive forms lol. The game is also getting a TV anime special (akin to Pokémon Origins). Trailer; They're certainly going all out with this one. It just looks better and better the more I see of it. Very hyped!
TY for the trailers!! im so hyped for this game to come out :). I just got graces F for my ps3 off the flash sale (17.00) and im in the process of beating Vesperia, and Xillia 2 comes out soon too!! :D.
So, we now have a confirmed JP release date of January 22, 2015! (Source) That's a little more than two years since the last main title in the series. I'm glad they haven't continued pumping new entries out every year and can actually put some decent development time in. Also, a new playable human character named Roza has been revealed: Spoiler This is good news as it was believed that Sorey & Alicia were the only (forced) human party members, as it has been confirmed that you cannot have a party consisting of four Tenzoku, thus needing two humans present.
Eyyy the first Tales game released on PS4. Well it's probably just an upscaled version of the PS3 version, but nevertheless! I'm glad Namco Bandai is finally making the move towards the newest gen!
