Kingdom Hearts Synthetic Heartless/Real Heartless

Don't know if this has been posted yet, terribly sorry if it has, but I noticed something the other day.

In Ansem's Report 8 it says he was able to create synthetic heartless and that he marked them. That made me think 'Hey, the heartless symbol!' You know, the one that's all over Hollow Bastion, the heart with the thorny X through it? A lot of heartless have that mark, too. But not every sinlge one of them. I looked through the journal and saw that most of the heartless have that mark, but there are some that don't. I can't remember every single one, but I know those first things, the shadows don't have them. I don't think the soldiers do, but I'm not sure. That Darkside thing that you fight on Destiny Islands doesn't, and neither do darkballs or invisibles. Am I on to something or just blowing smoke?

 

Yes you are onto something indeed.

Pureblood Heartless - DiZ/Ansem gave them this name apparently in KH2 true Ansem Reports, as a way to distinguish the original Heartless from those that were synthetic. Those are the black inky Heartless such as the Shadows, Neo-Shadows and Darksides. They have no markings on them.

Emblem Heartless - This is another thing DiZ/Ansem comments on, as well as Xehanort. These Heartless are the ones created by Xehanort's machine. Upon completion, he marked all of the Heartless he had made off of studying the Purebloods, with the Heartless symbol we all are now used to seeing. He made various types and then distributed them out to interspace to invade worlds when he was about to be stopped.

The Pureblood heartless are the ones not created by Ansem; the ones that were there to begin with and originally sparked his studies. But that brings up another question:

When people lose their hearts, are they only able to become Pureblood heartless, or Emblem heartless as well?

Repliku has answered your question. As he said, the Emblem Heartless are the ones created by Xenahort, while the Pure Blood Heartless are the ones created by the darkness inside peoples hearts, meaning that the Emblem Heartless are the most abunding species in the Heartless nature.

 

The Pureblood Heartless are Shadows, Neoshadows, Gigant Shaows, Darkballs, Invisibles, Xehanort's Guardian, Darkside, and the World of Chaos(?)

 

There's a scene in Traverse Town where you see someone lose their heart, and he becomes a Soldier, an Emblem Heartless.

 

Yes, any with the Heartless symbol on them are Emblem Heartless, and a Soldier is one of them.

Shadows, Neo-Shadows, Darksides, Xehanort's Guardian, Darkballs and Invincibles I believe are the only 'Pureblood' ones we've seen as of yet.

 

Well, right at the start of Traverse Town, a random civilian loses their heart and turns into a soldier. Do the soldiers have emblems?

 

Soldiers are the weakest emblem heartless

 

What about the Dark Thorn? It doesn't have the mark on it, but yet, it's not completely black.

 

Most small heartless are naturally born heartless. Emblem version heartless (which Ansem describes as "synthesized heartless") are usually a lot bigger, like harder enemies... mostly bosses.

All heartless (like Darkside, Darkball, shadow's, etc.) that are born naturally are always simple...

Heartless like that huge fire thing in Wonderland are emblems... which are created synthetically...
