No, it was entirely possible, they just decided to squander all the potential and take the easy route and make him a clone. There was a ridiculous ammount of Windwaker material that lent itself to a unique moveset that was simply not used at all

Also, Ganondorf is a clone of Captain Falcon again, there was a video of Ganondorf doing Target Test and all of his aerials are taken directly from Falcon, we don't know his B-moves yet except for Up-B, which is the same functionality as Falcon's Up-B only Ganon does a spin instead of a front-flip like Falcon.

And Luigi hasn't been changed at all, again squandering the potential for a Luigi's Mansion based moveset, they just recycled his moves again.

Mmhmm, Mewtwo was scrapped, he's a regular Trophy now. Lucario took a lot of his old moves, Lucario is still is own character though, just borrowed some of Mewtwo's old material

I feel a little better about our delay considering the supply shortages that are plaguing Japanese distributors right now. A lot of people (locals and importers included) won't be getting their Brawl copies until earliest mid-February (although suspicions claim that the shortage is arbitrary with a large restock arriving by the weekend).

In essence, that really just means we've seen a 2 week delay from a large percentage of Japan. However, I only hope that by the time the NA release date comes, the supply shortages will have been resolved and there will be enough copies for a large portion the NA market at launch. I know a lot of people have begun to attribute the one month delay to this disc shortage.

 

Wolf was a bit of an anti-climax. I wonder why they made him the hardest to unlock over Snake/Sonic/R.O.B. =\

 

Hardest, or they just have no idea what to do to unlock him. It could be something obscure (but easy), just no one would naturally think of doing it.

I mean, it could be simply getting a certain score on the Coin Launcher for all we know (and the score required might not be that hard to get). XD

You get my point.

 

But someone DID unlock him...

 

O.o is that "new" text actually part of the game graphic or was that photoshopped? Because if it's the former, that's hilarious.

 

I'm not sure the full details, but yes, that is part of the game. I'm guessing it pops up there until you actually use the character. xD

I've been following the logs of a smashboards member who got Brawl and is currently playing it. I'll update his progress here as it comes since he's giving first-hand information on how he's gone about unlocking characters. This isn't my info, so any mistakes here I can't confirm or deconfirm.

Unlocking Ness:
Play 5 VS matches.

Unlocking Marth:
Play 15 VS matches.

Unlocking Captain Falcon:
Complete Classic Mode with any character on Normal mode.

Unlock Luigi:
Beat Classic Mode on Easy (O.o;; )

Mario Classic Stage:
Beat Event #19

Luigi's Mansion Stage:
In Vs. Mode, play as Luigi 3 times.

Jungle Garden Stage (from Melee):
In Vs. Mode, play on any Melee stages 10 times.

Pokemon Stadium (Melee version):
In Vs. Mode, play on Pokemon Stadium 2 10 times.

Port City:
In Vs. Mode, play as Captain Falcon 10 times.

 

Wow. Nintendo sure is giving away rewards easier now...
I liked it better when it was freakin' HARD. To unlock even one person, not be able to unlock four within ten minutes. D;

Actual gameplay, awesome. He seems like a slower, powerful version of Fox.
